  1. Intégrale Louis Armstrong Volume 8 'Public Melody No. 1 1937-1938' (Frémeaux)
  2. Slide Hampton 'Exodus' (Philips, France, mono)
  3. That Mobley 1568 went up to $4,800! It did not reach the 5K zone that a couple of copies reached...
  4. Happy Birthday
  5. Today's stage takes the riders through beautiful countryside including a very quick visit to Marciac, site of the annual jazz festival (it starts on July 27). Not sure the camera will zoom in on the statue of Wynton Marsalis outside the local city hall! Marciac is some 60 kilometers from the finish line (for those who watch the Tour live!).
  6. Oliver Nelson 'Meet Oliver Nelson' (NewJazz/OJC)
  7. The session first turned up (one tune: 'Train's Strain') on the Transition TRLP30 anthology as a leaderless date. All the three available tunes then appeared in 1975 on the Paul Chambers/John Coltrane 'First Step' BN twofer. By then 'Train's Strain' was changed to 'Trane's Strain'. Dan Morgenstern in the liner notes to 'High Step' indicates This session is usually credited to Curtis Fuller but it has also been listed under the leadership of Paul Chambers. It seems the session has since been listed under PC's name for convenience sake.
  8. A wise soul posted audio samples from the rare BN 45rpm on his ebay auction (the item will soon disappear so take your chance now!): Leon Eason First time I have been able to listen to Eason's music! The auction went up to $314! I must say I would not have paid this amount of money for it!
  9. Don Lanphere 'Out of Nowhere' (Hep)
  10. Some good news for Billie Holiday completists. A French collector has taken over from the Masters of Jazz series and published volumes 18 through 26 (the original series stopped at vol. 17). Limited edition of 100 copies each. Billie Holiday Complete Masters of Jazz
  11. The Armstrong sets I am waiting for are the next volumes (12, 13, 14 and so on...) of the Intégrale Louis Armstrong from Frémeaux. I have bought plenty of those Okeh/Columbia/Victor releases (from the Jolly Roger 10inchers days up to the Masters of Jazz and Classics CDs) and am not ready to spend more money on other reissues!
  12. Louis Bellson 'Thunderbird' (Impulse, stereo)
  13. Interesting interview with Bradley Wiggins in yesterday's The Guardian Wiggins interview
  14. Horace Silver 'Total Response' (BN, UA label)
  15. Another (and quite interesting) review in The Wall Street Journal
