  2. Chris, trust you caught those photos of Lonnie Johnson by the great photographer Russell Lee in Chicago back in 1941: Go to the shorpy site to view them full size (amazing! you're -almost- there!)

  5. Two more days to go... This Tour has turned out to be a boring experience. Wiggins will win - the first British rider ever to win the race - because he probably is the best with the best team but what a cautious leader he became after securing the yellow jersey. Never took a chance. Remained carefully in the close vicinity of his top rivals. Too bad his teammate Chris Froome was not allowed to take his chance. He looked in even better shape than Wiggins in the mountain stages. In any case, Wiggins is bound to win tomorrow's timetrial (one of his specialties) before riding to Paris for the final stage on Sunday. Doubt that he will become a hero outside Britain! Hopefully next year's Tour (maybe with Froome in the lead of the Sky team!) will be livelier!
  6. Buck Clayton 'Buckin' the Blues' (Vanguard/King Japan)
  7. The Columbia/Epic albums are not among my favorite Mose Allison records. Great fan of Mose here! Looks like Columbia/Epic did not know what to do with him and let him go after producing three LPs. Much prefer the earlier Prestige and later Atlantic/BN recordings!
  8. Before the Blakey/Miles 1955 versions there was the Sonny Clark interpretation on the Uptown 'Sonny Clark Oakland' Uptown CD. It was recorded on January 13, 1955. The tune is credited to Kenny Dorham. In the liner notes to the CD, Bob Blumenthal writes that Sonny Clark recorded it with Buddy DeFranco in August 1954 on the In a Mellow Mood album. On that LP the tune was titled 'The Bright One' and credited to DeFranco and Kenny Drew!
