Duke Ellington 'Concert in the Virgin Islands' (Discovery)

What was the rest of the Portal/Rava band like? Just curious. My memory is pretty vague about it. If I remember well, Henri Texier was on bass that evening. Concert was held after Portal was awarded the 1968 Prix Django Reinhardt!

The Italian defense with Buffon at the top of his art managed to stand off German offensives. What a great team they have with him, Balotelli, Pirio and others! Spain will have a hard time to keep its European title when they face this Squadra on Sunday!

Buddy de Franco Complete Quartet/Quintet with Sonny Clark, LPs 2 and 3

Been a fan of Rava ever since I heard him live in the late 60s (with Gato Barbieri, also with Michel Portal). I agree with those who rate 'Duo en Noir' sublime! A very unique, intense and darkish album that starts with a sublime 'Nature Boy' and keeps on until the final track (There's a Small Hotel).

Spain managed to neutralize a rather dismal Ronaldo in a disappointing semifinal match. Hope the second semifinal match Germany-Italy will be a livelier affair tonight!

Good luck to you, Clifford! As a veteran of two moving vinyl experiences (across Paris, not across a continent), all I can offer is sympathy! I still remember the look of the moving company employees as they were confronted with boxes and boxes of vinyls when I moved to my current place. Have no desire at all to renew the operation!

I have numerous favorite albums by Kenny Barron but the one I return most often to is the 'People Time' box with Stan Getz!

George Russell 'At the Five Spot' (Decca, mono)

I purchased the original LP of vol. 1 'Things Have Got to Change' when it was released and decided to skip vol. 2 when it came out. Just too many Shepp LPs being published at the time and I was not really impressed about it. Did I miss something?
