  1. Match was played after the rain finally stopped. A good French team scored twice for a promising 2-O victory
  2. The Ukraine vs. France game in Donetsk is suspended after 5 minutes because of a very severe thunderstorm. Latest word from the field is that the game will be postponed until tomorrow
  3. The Sextet of Orchestra U.S.A. 'Mack the Knife' (RCA Victor, stereo)
  4. That this is going on and on is mainly due to Armstrong's obstination in denying the charges. Wasn't it Armstrong himself who asked for an United States Anti-Doping Agency investigation? Now that the USADA has confirmed all the facts about his doping, he continues to refuse to face the facts. And will continue - with his full team of lawyers - to search for 'all options'! I have already read the next chapters in this saga... Very boring!
  5. Indeed! A favorite album from Satchmo! Will be looking for that complete edition... Fer U! Great blog you have
  6. My stomach is strong enough to lick the Miles stamp. I'll abstain from doing the same with the Piaf one (never liked her as a person and no fan of her singing!).
  7. 'Natual Illusions' originally came out on BN vinyl (BN 4416)
  8. René Urtreger 'Jazzman' (Carlyle)
  9. I am shocked beyond words by all this ... so is Lance
  10. John Coltrane 'The Heavyweight Champion' (Atlantic)
  11. There are plenty Phil Woods albums I enjoy. Among the best are the ones he recorded during his sojourn this side of the Atlantic with his European Rhythm Machine
  12. Red Callender Swingin' Suite' (Crown, mono)
  13. Are these LPs that Jim Neumann was holding under his arm? Very nice photo!
  14. I read the book when I was away from home for the last two weeks. A really good one! Enjoyed it. Learned many things about the label and its founder. Jason Weiss went at it like an archeologist and left no stones unturned. Highly recommended... Also the book includes some ten of the photos I took in those fascinating days!
  15. It's the same material, released on Fairmont records. At least eight LPs came out, with liner notes by Torme. Indeed! I treasure these Valburn LPs. Managed to get the complete series and now acquire the CDs (they all have additional material) as they come out. Still amazed at the quality and variety of material included!
  16. Louis Armstrong Meets Oscar Peterson (Verve, stereo) Love that album!
  17. It's the same material, released on Fairmont records. At least eight LPs came out, with liner notes by Torme.

    Wardell Gray

If you have vol. 2 of the Wardell Gray Memorial, you also need vol. 1 (I like it even better) with its various takes of 'Twisted', a Gray classic if there ever was one. Al Haig shines on piano. I also love Wardell Gray with Count Basie. The SagaJazz compilation 'Count Basie Septet & Octet' includes all his small group recordings with the Count
