Don't know who the lady with Miles and Bechet in the Max Jones-Credited photo is but it sure is not our Nica! Our Nica was 36 when the photo was taken at the 1949 Paris jazz festival!

Wish I could report that Sonny Murray is doing fine but it does not happen to be the case right now. I talked to him on the phone. He is still at the L'Eau Vive place. I have not been able to speak to a doctor yet but was told that he would be leaving it, probably tomorrow. Sonny sounded very depressed and was very unsure about his current whereabouts. He is pretty paranoid (about the hospital, his situation, his future...). I told him a lot of people were sending getwell messages. He mentioned that Cecil Taylor had called him a few days ago. My son who is a pedopsychiatrist (he had good things to say about the l'Eau Vive hospital) will try to talk to one of the doctors trying to take care of Murray to find out what exactly are the problems and what kind of treatment can be expected. I will be in touch with Sonny very soon (also with CT and other musician friends)...

The sound is bad, but fighting through it I heard some motifs in his playing that I wasn't familiar with, so I think it's worth the plunge. Found a cheap copy soon after it came out. Everything about the CD was cheap, except the music!

The French jazz radio TSF Jazz will have a live broadcast from the Duc des Lombards club on June 1 (at 1900GMT) when the Lou Donaldson quartet performs there during an European tour: Jazz Live Poppa Lou's current quartet has Akiko Tsurugan organ, Randy Johnston, guitar, and Fukushi Tainaka, drums.
