Jimmy Rowles 'Scarab' (Musica)

CNN got its geography wrong yesterday (I am sure it was not a first for the network)! During a newsprogram on the current G20 Summit in Cannes, France, they illustrated the broadcast with a map locating the French Riviera city on the northern coast of Spain!

Watched it! Found it rather entertaining but did not learn much from it. Of course, it concentrated on music I have no interest in. The program is online now: Vinylmania

New Jazz released new material and reissued a number of Prestige sessions. New Jazz catalogue from the Plosin.com website. chewy, about my copy of Lights Out, I was getting new releases from Prestige at $2,50 a LP at the time. That was more than half a century ago! And not a bad deal when the Prestige LPs were sold for much more money in the rare Paris shops which specialized in US copies back then. No reason to complain for one freak copy when all the other LPs shipped were without problems!

their website www.united-archives.fr is not working now. It was a while ago. Their jazz releases: United-archives They also have a pretty interesting classic catalogue. I have only their Miles Davis Complete Live Recordings 1948-1955 10CD set and my ears are pretty satisfied with the remastering!

Oui... we're not Italy here (not yet, at least). The only one I remember as being dubbed was George Chakiris! His dancing was obviously good enough for Demy but not his French!

Just out the 7CD box Dizzy Gillespie 'The Complete Big Band Studio Sessions 1946-1960' from United archives: €20,93 from Amazon.fr! Quite a good deal!

Indeed, Christiane Legrand's range and talent were part of Hodeir's arrangements (notably on the soundtrack of the film 'La Parisienne' - starring a young Brigitte Bardot - and on Jazz et Jazz. Christiane Legrand also appeared on Luciano Berio's Laborintus 2!

André Hodeir 'Le Jazz Groupe de Paris Joue André Hodeir' ] (Véga)

Renowned music critic, composer and musician André Hodeir died Tuesday evening in Versailles, near Paris. He was 90. Obituary (in French) on the France-Musique radio site. His book 'Hommes et Problèmes du Jazz' (1954) is an essential read of jazz criticism.

Not from Prestige but from its Swedish distributors Metronome. Metronome was very big on EPs!
