  1. That 16CD box (on Sound Hills in Japan)... ... originally on a 22LP box (plus a 7inch disc of Lester singing) in Italy. A limited edition of 300 copies! There was also a Bird Box (22LP) - that was the first one of the series - and a Lady Day Box (22LP)!

Indiana (Hanley-MacDonald) 4:01 ------ that's what I can find... it contraditcts, however, brownie's statement, that: And this may all be wrong... I'm just trying to fit my info with the setlist & timings of the Storyville release! Majesty, something is wrong here. As far as I can see what you have detailed is for one disc, presumably disc 1. The statement accompanying the Storyville announcement clearly indicates: Three of the sessions are unissued and on one track Oh! Lady Be Good young Miles Davis is on trumpet. It was recorded on a European tour Lester and Miles did in 1956. The 7:14 timing is what the Peter Losin website says! Now let's try to find out what's on disc 2
  3. Not that one. The big box that reunited these four sets... photo from the amazing Livingwithmusic website! Those four sets and the big box are hard to find these days!
  4. No! That double CD from Storyville jumped right to the top of my want list! Wonder what's the other unissued material there.
  5. Sorry to hear this! I enjoyed his writings. He will be missed!
  6. That's true for 'Richie' and 'Richie Kamuca's Charlie' but 'Drop me off in Harlem' was produced by Carl Jefferson.
  7. The four boxes (Montmartre, Champs-Elysées, Saint-Germain des Prés and Rive Gauche, Rive Droite) are OOP by now and starting to become collectors items. Same goes for the BIG box that reunited all four previous sets!
  8. You mean Guy Cosson's 'Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band' (Editions Parallèles)? A friend of mine who read it says about the same. Cosson is also the author of an excellent (and very well documented) biography of Rahsaan Roland Kirk which was published in France some five years ago. I have read and liked the Rahsaan book. I have not read te Beefheart one.
  9. The 7:14 version of 'Lady Be Good' comes from the November 2, 1956 Birdland All Stars concert at the Salle Pleyel in Paris where Miles and Prez were backed by the French rhythm section of René Urtreger, Pierre Michelot and Christian Garros. It remained an unissued item until now. The shorter version comes from the November 19 concert in Zurich which was released on the Jazz Unlimited CD 'Miscellaneous Davis 1955-1957'.
  10. PM sent on the Johnny Mercer Mosaic Select and the Wilbur Harden/Coltrane!
  11. Dexter Gordon 'The Complete Prestige Recordings' box. Picking music right and left!
  12. more bootlegs... JazzLips is releasing 'The 1960 German Concerts' CD that includes extracts from two concerts by the Miles Davis-John Coltrane quintet that circulated in private circles only up to now... Details...
  13. Lyon failed to attack even after Bayern's Ribery was expelled in the first half. Bayern won 1-0 on homeground. Lyon still has a chance to qualify if they play better during the return match. Ribery must be in a weird mood right now after being involved in the prostitution case that is also plaguing a couple of other French national forwards (no wonder France has failed to score lately!). In recent interviews, Zahia D., the Moroccan girl who recently turned 18, has confirmed relations with Ribery, Govou and Benzema! A photo from her Facebook page:
  14. Well I own the Atlas vinyl of that session! Never thought the album would find its way in a porn thread
  15. Teddy Edwards 'Feelin's' (Muse) with Conte Candoli, Dolo Coker, Ray Brown, Frank Butler and Jerry Steinholz!
  16. ... and many more to come
  17. Those two Pacific Jazz CDs should not be overlooked either... Very nice West Coast dates!
  18. I have a personal remembrance of "Symphony'. Gato Barbieri needed money to fly from Paris to New York to record the album. I loaned him the airfare. Never got the money back. No grudge, his financial situation was in odd shape at the time. I love the album! My personal contribution to Blue Note history
  19. Not hifi! Acceptable. Just keep in mind its' the Clifford Brown-Sonny Rollins-Max Roach unit!
  20. The Chet Baker-Russ Freeman quartet at its best! Highly recommended!
  21. Pierre, j'espère retrouver ces Sounds and Fury! Envoie-moi un PM ou email avec tes coordonnées! Merci, Guy
  22. David, please hold the Tubby Hayes on the Air for me. Will PM later, Guy
  23. Wish they would. That Stax tour show with Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Booker T and the MGs and others at the Paris Olympia in March 1967 is one of the best show I ever attended! Not some tight shit.. very tight shit!
  24. Presume you have been in touch with Gato Barbieri, Karl Berger, Aldo Romano who all have plenty of stories to tell about those Don Cherry years. I may also be able to dig several issues of 'Sounds & Fury' which I have somewhere!
