I have seen the video several times since yesterday when it showed up on youtube and cannot make up my mind for sure!
Did Fabian Cancellara use a motor-powered bicycle to win the Tour of Flandres and Paris-Roubaix cycling classic this year?
The controversy is growing.
The video on youtube!
Cancellara has a pretty good reputation so far. Can't say the same about his team coach Bjarne Riis...
Cancellara has denied any wrongdoing but we have heard that before from other cycling champs!
The accelerations by Candellara on the video are more than stunning!
Also why did he have to change bikes not very far from the finish lines of both races? No proper explanations yet for the changes which surprised viewers at the time!
At least no doping accusations so far...
The session was included in the previous ESP reissue from 2006 'Sonny Simmons The Complete ESP-Disk' Recordings'
The double CD had a very interesting interview of Simmons by our own Clifford Thornton!
Absent some reason to think otherwise, can't we assume that the cover photos/design are by Burt Goldblatt ?
That would be the sensible answer but then why would he remain uncredited?
His other (and frquent) contributions on Bethlehem LPs bore his signature.
and none of those releases give credit to the photographer at the original session
The blue tainted closeup of Blakey on the Bethlehem reissue was taken by Francis Wolff. Wonder if he was credited on that LP!
Enjoyed the Louise Bourgeois exhibition that was on show at the Paris Centre Pompidou a couple of years ago!
Louise Bourgeois by Robert Mapplethorpe...
Handle with care!
That was understood from the start!
Dorham was pretty strong-minded. Remember the problems Cecil Taylor had with him and his playing on the 'Hard Driving Jazz' session!
Glad that one was released.
I am just keeping hoping that the Silver session will see the light of the day!
All the more reasons for getting to listen to those tapes.
Just for the sake of curiosity (I have yet to hear Dorham playing soppily)...
We all know that great artists have their bad days. They don't lose our respect for that!
Always wondered who was the photographer who took the images that adorned the cover of the original Bethlehem LP.
Quite a number of very interesting shots among those 17 photos. That big band session was quite a gathering of superb musicians!
The liner notes to the LP do not credit any of them!
The double CD 'John Coltrane, the Bethlehem Years' used several of those - including the cover shot of Coltrane - but the photos were wrecked by out of focus reproductions. And still no photographer's credits in the liner notes of the reissue!
Drakes' passing away was a last discreet touch to a discreet career.
I always liked the way he played with Lester Young and wished there had been more opportunities to listen to him!
A personal note. When I first traveled to New York in 1965 one of the friendliest musicians I met was Burton Greene.
He gave me the invaluable advice to stay away from various hard substances that were easily available on the scene.
Of course I had to try some and did. One experience was so unsettling that I decided to stick to Burton's recommendation and lived happily ever after!
When SteepleChase released the session on vinyl, the quartet titles with Hank Mobley were left out.
'Autum Leaves' with Hank Mobley only showed up when the session was released on CD in 1996.
By the way the session was taped in New York with the great Elvin Campbell taking care of the recording.
