  1. Schiavone defeated Australia's Sam Stosur in the final, not Wozniacki. Mais oui! Me very bad Correcting my earlier post!
  2. Pepper Adams 'Critics' Choice' (World Pacific/Toshiba)
  3. Nadal's fifth was a smash! And not a single set lost Surprise came from the mild reactions from the usually much more agressive Robin Soderling! Two hours and 13 minutes was a fast three-set victory; Hats off also to Italy's Francesca Schiavone who defeated Australia's Samantha Stosur in the women's final! Her first major tournament win! Edited to correct name of the defeated opponent of Schiavone.
  4. French publisher Nocturne keeps adding titles to its Bdmusic series. BDMUSIC catalogue
  5. Disques Erato was purchased by Warner in 1992. Warner is still taking care of the Erato catalogue!
  6. With Ivory Coast's star player Didier Drogba out of action, that's going to be difficult... Drogba broke his right arm on Friday during a friendly soccer match in Sion, Switzerland!
  7. The Four Brothers 'Together Again!' (Vik) labels are reversed on my copy!
  8. Sorry to hear this special day is being marred by bad news! Hope you will be able to celebrate very soon!
  9. Competitions kick off on Friday! The event deserves a thread of its own... From what I have seen so far, Spain is my favorite team. Wish Argentina the best of luck! They have superb players. Too bad their coach is Maradona... A great player he was! A lousy coach he is!
  10. More than 5K for this Hank Mobley!
  11. Woody Allen made very good use of the music of Bubber Miley (playing superbly in Leo Reisman's 'What Is This Thing Called Love?') and Ben Webster/Art Tatum - among others - in the soundtracks of his films.
  12. The events that led to Wallington's departure from the Hampton tour are detailed in Noal Cohen and Michael Fitzgerald invaluable book on Gigi Gryce 'Rat Race Blues'. To sum up Wallington and singer Annie Ross ran into trouble with Lionel Hampton (and wife Gladys) when they took part in record sessions in Stockholm at the beginning of the tour. Annie Ross was fired before the tour reached Paris and Wallington 'left in a show of support'.
  13. Oliver Nelson, with Eric Dolphy 'Straight Ahead' (New Jazz)
  14. I ignored Glenn Miller for a long, long time. Changed my mind after I purchased - on Larry Kart's recommendation - the 3CD set Secret Broadcasts of The Army Air Forces Training Command Band. Quite a band, this was!
  15. took it that you had this for ages. Dammit, Mobley is on this one!
  16. Clifford Jordan & the Magic Triangle 'On Stage' vol. 3 (SteepleChase) The Magic Triangle was Cedar Walton, Sam Jones and Billy Higgins! Magic was the right word!
  17. K.D.'s Motion The Villa Venita's Dance Just get this album
  18. I tried to ignore CDs when they came out and was not impressed with the sound of the first ones I listened to. I gave in when Toshiba Japan reissued BN CDs that had additional material. That was back in 1987. Hundreds of CD purchases later, it seems that my place has been invaded by the damn devices. Sound reproduction has improved but when I want to listen to the real thing I go back to the vinyls. Glad I have kept all of those!
  19. That was the cover of the original 10" LP release, BN BLP 5065. When it was reissued as a 12" BN 1535, the album was completed with three tracks from the slightly earlier session with Mobley,Payne, Silver, Percy Heath and Blakey! A very favorite album!
