  1. Guy Lafitte 'Et son Quartette avec Kenny Hagood' (French Columbia 10") folowing the thread on Hagood by epistrophy007 went back to this LP to relisten to it. Hagood's songs include 'Body and Soul' where a fearless Lafitte plays a fine solo with excellent piano support from the underrated Raymond Fol! Nice album!
  2. chewy, all you have to do is read the liner notes by Ira Gitler. He explains it all about the charts. If you have a 1st pressing read the line just below the charts: Main influence is in caps; strong influence has first letter capitalised; lesser influence in lower case. In Mobley's case, Gitler says Parker and Rollins were strong influences. I remember those charts engendered several discussions when the album was released!
  3. 'Houseparty' comes from two sessions, both recorded at the Manhattan Towers studios, not at RVG's place. 'Just Friends' and 'Blues After All' are from the first session, August 25, 1957. The one with George Coleman. 'Au Private' and 'Lover Man' are from the second session, February 25, 1958. The one with Lou Donaldson and Tina Brooks. Other titles from the two sessions came out on 'The Sermon' which was released shortly after 'Houseparty'.
  4. Never saw (or heard) that 'Forward Sound' Bethlehem! Discovered Minion when 'The Soft Land of Make Believe' was reissued in Japan by Trio Records in the '80s. Complete title of the album was 'The Soft Land of Make Believe (Introduction to black opium street)'! That's the full title on the back cover!
  5. It's a ten-incher 'Guy Lafitte et son Quartette avec Kenny Hagood', a 1960 session on French Columbia. Hagood sings on three of the six titles. Looks like it's never been reissued! Don't think there is any other trace of Hagood's Parisdays. The INA.fr site does not have anything on him.
  6. Al Hibbler with Buddy Tate and the Hank Jones All Stars 'For Sentimental Reasons' (Open Sky Records)
  7. Happy Birthday  Wishing you a lot of bright moments!
  8. Is it the NYK label, the ones Alfred pressed for you back in the days? No! He only pressed Lexington labels for me The ultra rare Lexington/Paris pressing with the "G" close to the "Van Gelder" in the trail off? Those pressings are safely piled in my private vault at the nearby bank. And don't even think of getting one of those when they are put on the auction block! Unless you sell your exclusive Testarossa
  9. I have that Italian bootleg Jazzway. Not an expert on exact pitch but the music sounds good to my ears. This was a concert held at the Salle de la Mutualité in Paris on November 4, 1965. A double-header with the Ornette Coleman trio! Happy to report I attended the concert. Unhappy to report that there are practically no chance of a similar concert being held nowadays! Beside who plays 'Mademoiselle de Paris' these days
  10. Jimmy Heath 'Triple Threat' (Riverside/Interdisc, mono)
  11. Not really sure this baby is the artist
  12. Nice (and long overdue) website for John Graas! He took part in so many of the great West Coast jazz sessions!
  13. Is it the NYK label, the ones Alfred pressed for you back in the days? No! He only pressed Lexington labels for me
  14. Sam Rivers 'Contours' (BN, NYK label, stereo)
  15. I have not bought the Mosaic box so can't compare. But the sound of that Complete vol. 8 set is better than that of the Chronological Classics CDs of the same music I have.
  16. Previous thread!
