  1. Booker Little 'Out Front' (Candid, mono)
  2. And now one more Lost Quintet unofficial release (from the Rome and Copenhagen concerts), a double CD: Miles Davis Live in Rome & Copenhagen 1969
  3. A very Happy Birthday
  4. Waiting to raise one -with more potent drinks - to your very good health...
  5. The Apartment has been on my 10 best films list ever since I first saw it after its release. Superb cast with even the secondary roles played to perfection!
  6. Great! That means those two seconds will probably show up when Schaap lets us hear those acetates of the Earl Hines band with Bird
  7. Sad to hear about this. Enjoyed him when he was still George Joyner and contributed mightily to albums by Phineas Newborn, the Red Garland quintet sessions with Coltrane and Donald Byrd, Randy Weston. He was also on board for Lester Young's final official session.
  8. A DVD of the November 7, 1969 Lost Quintet concert in Berlin is being released by Jazz Shots. Amazon.com
  9. Both Revelant and Ayler Records did that. The Ayler 'Copenhagen Tapes' release has a note indicating: 'Licensed from the Ayler Estate, p and copyright 2002' Had an email exchange with Jan Ström after he was ordered in 2008 to stop the publication of the CD. Jan mentioned it had been impossible to reach an agreement with the Ayler family for a renewal of the licence and added that the family was simply asking for too much money! It looks like Albert Ayler has been enrolled in the Erroll Garner school of copyright problems.
  10. I just visited the Ayler Records site and noticed that they're now based in Limours, France. What happened to Jan Ström and when did they move? Jan Ström retired last year. His former French partner Stéphane Berland took over and rebased the company in Limours, southwest of Paris.
  11. Lately, more from the Ben Webster Dig Ben Box from Storyville and the Jimmy Lyons Box Set from Ayler Records.
  12. Bad news! Looks like this is the same problem that arose after the release of 'The Copenhagen Tapes' on Ayler Records. The CD had to be pulled out of circulation after the Ayler estate objected to its release!
  13. Each new listening to that set brings added discoveries. Incredible music from an underrated giant! Hope Ayler Records will survive now that Jan Strom is no longer part of the label!
  14. Not Paris, but Rome. The October 27, 1969 concert at Teatro Sistina. I have this as a double LP, its original bootleg release.
  15. Are you sure? I also prefer the Reid Miles version but I still treasure the Hannan edition. I have that 50th St. edition. Copy is still in very good shape despite having been played (and enjoyed) so many times!
  16. Reid Miles cover for 'Sonny Rollins Plus Four': Tom Hannan for the same album:
  17. Barney Kessel's Swinging Party at Contemporary (Contemporary, stereo)

  20. Jazz accordion player Art Van Damme died Monday, according to The Los Angeles Daily News.
  21. Eric Dolphy 'Conversations' (FM, mono)
  22. It's the same concert (the first night). The Sony CD clocks in at 64m. The Jazz Door at 63m58s. Now don't ask me where that two-second difference comes from
  23. Duke Ellington 1936-1940, discs 3 and 4
  24. That Newport 1960 concert had been released previously (in 1996) by the British label Jazz Band as 'Concert in the Rain' The CD added 'The Anthill' by the Mulligan Sextet (Farmer, Brookmeyer, Mulligan, Hall, Crow, Bailey) from the 1963 Newport festival.
  25. The lettering for that Prestige album 'The Story of Moondog' was done by Warhol's mom!
