  1. The tune belongs to Ray Bryant
  2. Roy Haynes 'People' (Pacific Jazz Japan) with Frank Strozier, Sam Dockery and Larry Ridley
  3. I have explored these 'Piano Parade' shows earlier. Very interesting broadcasts. I was disappointed with the absence of one of my piano hero Bernard Peiffer on those parades!
  4. Disc 6 of my Holy Ghost box plays fine. The music is the only thing that sizzles!
  5. The Lost Quintet concert I attended in Bordeaux was held on October 29, 1969 at the Théatre français.. It is not listed on the Plosin Miles Ahead chronology or in Jan Lohmann's discography. The Lost Quintet concert in Bordeaux was held one day after a concert by the Cecil Taylor Unit. I attended both concerts!
  6. What is now known as the Lost Quintet was Miles, Shorter, Corea, Holland and deJohnette. Period. That quintet never went into a recording studio! Too bad for us. Fortunately there are a number of official (Juan les Pins) and non official recordings that are circulating.
  7. That is extracted from the Luc Ferrari-produced series 'Les Grandes Répétitions'. The link used a bad quality video. The original video looks much better!
  8. Steve Lacy 'The Flame' (Soul Note) with Bobby Few and Dennis Charles
  9. That would be awesome! Beside the Cecil Taylor, I saw the ones on Scherchen and Varese. Missed the others (Messiaen and Stockhausen)... Hope the DVDs will be available soon!
  10. None of the 14 CDs seem to contain more than some 40 minutes of music
  11. I have had it for suite some time and have enjoyed it whenever I need to hear happy music. The set also offers numerous samples of King Cole's piano talents. Doug Pomeroy took care of the transfers/engineering so the sound is excellent!
  12. Gene Shaw 'Carnival Sketches' (Argo, mono)
  13. The good Jordi Pujol had this note on the origin of this tune in the liner notes to the FreshSound CD 'Oscar Pettiford In a Cello Mood': The tune Tricotism was originally released on (Bethlehem) BCP-1003 as Tricatism. Since the it has also been known as Tricotism and yet, it seems that the name Oscar originally intended to use was Tractitism. I have also seen this tune spelled 'Trictrotism' in this excellent Pettiford discography.
  14. Happy Birthday, young man Lots of successes for you!
  15. There was this earlier 4CD set on VJC which had most of the material.
  16. Yes, the Land-Hutcherson quintet (with Joe Chambers) opened for Miles at both concerts. And while this happened at Antibes/Juan les Pins, the Cecil Taylor Unit (with Jimmy Lyons, Sam Rivers, Andrew Cyrille) was settling at the nearby Maeght foundation for the concerts which were held right after the Antibes ones. I was commuting from one place to the other daily. A very busy jazz week!
  17. Could not miss noticing the appearance of that album (on Jazz Ball) with a cover like this The CD reissues three tracks (dating back to the '70s) from a Label M release plus the full Discovery 1988 (not 1971) studio session that came out also as 'Cedar Walton Plays the Music of Billy Strayhorn'. The three tracks from Baltimore were the bonus material, not the other way around!
  18. Bertrand, the interview was done last week over the phone. I saw elsewhere a similar message asking for people who attended those concerts and we got in touch. Prof. Veal is musician ethnologist Michael Veal who will appear later this week at the Sons d'Hiver festival here. I attended four of the Lost Quintet concerts in 1969. Two at the Juan les Pins/Antibes festival, one in Paris and a fourth one in Bordeaux!
  19. When INA (Intitut National de l'Audiovisuel) started releasing a large part of their videos last Fall I was hoping that the superb film 'De l'Autre Coté du Chemin de Fer' would be freed from their vaults but it still is being kept hidden. The French TV show produced by Luc Ferrari and brillantly directed by Gérard Patris was filmed in a magnificient house overlooking the Place des Vosges in central Paris. It was part of the Ferrari-Patris series 'Les Grandes Répétitions' from 1965-1966. All films from the series last about one hour each. De l'Autre Coté's subject was Cecil Taylor and his unit (Jimmy Lyons, Alan Silva, Andrew Cyrille). The film had interviews by CT and music by the Unit. I managed to obtain a copy of the film under condition I keep it strictly for myself. I hope INA will soon change its decision and release it. The Cecil Taylor performances by the Unit (with Sam Rivers and sans Silva) at the Maeght foundation in southern France in 1969 were also filmed but the videos are kept inside the Maeght foundation.
  20. Did the interview. Went on very nicely!
  21. Guérin would pronounce - very approximately - as Gaerhiiiyn this day will be remembered as the day when Brownie was mistaken for me Hope it's going to be a one-day thing only
  22. Paul Gonsalvez/Paul Quinichette 'Orchestre G. "Dave" Pochonet (Communication) with Ray Bryant, Skeeter Best, etc...
