  1. Miles Davis did not play at the 1969 Montreux festival. He made his first appearance there in 1973.
  2. A prestigious Reid Miles-Andy Warhol collaboration...
  3. The first concert from the Juan les Pins festival was officially released by Sony Japan in 1993 Both Lost Quintet concerts were filmed by French ORTF camera crews. Let's hope the images will be released by the INA, one can always dream!
  4. Harold Land 'Xocia's Dance'(Muse) with Oscar Brashear, Bobby Hutcherson, Billy Higgins, etc...
  5. From the Financial Times today.
  6. Yes and all have been tainted by by proofs/rumors of use of non-authorised substances! As the French say: Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose!
  7. Hawkins man indeed! One of my favorite Carney moment is his solo on Hawkins's 'Three Little Words' (Keynote). What a master he was!
  8. From The New York Times today.
  9. Nothing 'bad' about JSP as far as European laws are concerned! Now if you tell me that UK is not really part of EU, you may have a point! and probably some problems with several UK forum members
  10. The Quad City Times (Quad City area includes Davenport) has some news today about the projected Bix Beiderbecke Hall in Davenport: Letters from Bix Excerpts from Bix letters The Bix Beiderbecke Hall
  11. The Victor Feldman All Stars 'Soviet Jazz Themes' (Ava, mono) the All Stars include Nat Adderley, Carmell Jones, Harold Land, Joe Zawinul, Frank Butler and others
  12. Will be watching tonight the French-German channel ARTE which has on its schedule this German-Polish documentary on Krzysztof Komeda: Komeda Looks interesting!
  13. The VJC 4CD set includes 104 tunes. Some 20 of those have additional vocals by non King Cole-trio members!
  14. Another broadcast by Lester Young live from the Europe 1 radio station in 1956. Image taken by photographer Jean-Claude Bernath who was a frequent visitor at the radio station at the time. Europe 1 only released the tapes of the concerts they organised (the Jazz Messengers, Thelonious Monk, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Gerry Mulligan, Jimmy Giuffre, etc...) on their Trema-Europe 1 label but none of the sessions they recorded in the Europe 1 studios off the Champs-Elysees. Our loss!
  15. Ben Webster, the Dig Ben box from Storyville, discs 1 and 2
  16. It is. The new seems to include the early 1938-1940 sides that were on the JVC 4CD set plus the 1943-1945 McGregor material by the King Cole Trio that was reissued early on several Laserlight CDs.
  17. Of course, very interesting music there. I should not have been surprised by the absence of Peiffer on those Piano Parade broadcasts since the show got its start at about the time he left for the United States!
  18. A discreet but highly efficient drummer. Listened recently to Al Cohn's 'Nonpareil' date for Concord and marveled at his accompaniment on that session.
  19. Lester Young was part of the Norman Granz stable which was affiliated to the Europe 1 radio station. Europe 1 was very much jazz oriented at the time and taped a Prez broadcast with Oscar Dennard and René Urtreger in March 1959. The tape has not surfaced yet and since Europe 1 tends to ignore jazz altogether nowadays, there is very little chances that the session will reappear any time soon.
  20. Oh yes, the Eagle has landed! That was a wonderful story. Kept the media busy for the duration of the Games. Stuff that legends are made off!
  21. The Complete Blue Note Art Hodes, LPs 4 and 5 one of my favorite Mosaic box!
  22. When I was in Calgary for coverage of the 1988 Winter Olympics, that Ray Bryant tune kept playing in my head! Don't think he was in the area at that time!
