The Lord Discography index lists 1,198 sessions for Milt Hinton, 1,098 for Ron Carter, 988 for Hank Jones.
The others do not qualify (Plas Johnson 267, Bernard Purdie 321...)
Thelonious Monk/Herbie Nichols (Savoy Jazz)
The Monk side is the Gigi Gryce Quartet session. The Nichols side is the session with Chocolate Williams and Shadow Wilson
'Peals' is correct. It is listed as thus in the LP track listings (also on side 7 of the LP set) and the detailed discography. 'Pearls' on the CD listing is a typo.
You mean this one...
Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Saw the CD recently and did not notice it had unissued material from this session.
RLR has been good at releasing very rare material that circulated among collectors (rare Clifford Brown, Monk with Mobley, Chet Baker with Dick Twardzik, etc...)
INA sells its own DVD. You pick up whatever suits you. Most shows cost €6. They charge about the same to manufacture your DVD.
Shipping costs to the USA may be a bit high (it's €5,50 for France).
The price listed from Frémeaux for that first set (14 CDs) is not bad at €79,99 (there is even a current discount at €63,99!) And I'm sure that once they are sold by FNAC, Amazon, etc... they will be even cheaper!
Edition du Centenaire
Frémeaux & Associés is also reissuing their superb Intégrale Django Reinhardt, a total of 40 CDs...
Intégrale Django Reinhardt
The way to go for Django completists! The Intégrale is really that: everything that he recorded.
All the music that was on the LPs will be in the box. I have not seen a track list but the cover of the box is exactly like the covers of the LPs so it should have everything!
January 23, 2010 will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Django Reinhardt.
French record companies are scheduled to release a number of boxes to mark the Centennial.
Among them:
Le Manoir de Ses Reves from Harmonia Mundi/Le Chant du Monde. Nothing on their sites yet. This is a 26-CD set very similar to the recent release 'Les 100 ans du Piano Jazz'
Djangologie from EMI France, a 20CD which will incorporate all the material from La Voix de Son Maitre/HMV/Pathé-Marconi. It will be more complete and cheaper than the Mosaic Django Reinhardt box.
Django Forever, a 5CD box from Universal France.
Old favorites:
Dexter Gordon in 1973 with Georges Arvanitas, Alby Cullaz and Daniel Humair.
Barney Wilen at Marciac in 1995 with Laurent de Wilde, Gilles Naturel and Philippe Soirat...
...more Barney Wilen in Marciac. More videos are available from this concert.
Sidney Bechet with André Reweliotty and his orchestra in 1958 are introduced by Jeanne Moreau and Jean Marais!
Albert Nicholas and Joe Turner with Arvell Shaw and J.C. Heard at the 1958 Cannes jazz festival!
