Another JSP box that can be highly recommended is the Jimmy Noone one! Awesome playing by Noone with Earl Hines shining on many tracks!

I have said it before but that Polka Dots intro by Lester Young always brings tears in my eyes. Prez at his very best! Still cherish the original Verve LP.

Fresh Sound also released a vinyl copy of Bob Keene's Andex album 'Solo for Seven' that featured Milt Bernhardt, Pepper Adams, Red Mitchell, Shelly Manne and others. Have that FS LP somewhere...

You have already tasted some Johnny Dodds, try looking for some of the sessions he recorded under his name. They're available on Retrieval, Frog and other reissue labels. The Sidney Bechet box on JSP is highly recommended too! Also check the JSP boxes: early Ellingtons, Eddie Lang & Joe Venuti. Any of those will have you back on your feet in no time!

He recorded several sessions in the '50s with some of the best West Coast musicians (Conrad Gozzo, Maynard Ferguson, Milt Bernhardt, Bill Holman, etc...). The sessions were reissued on this Americana CD: The above CD cover spells his name Bob Keane. He is Bob Keene on the version of the same CD I have, on the cover and liner notes. Good music!

I'ld second that. A very worthy anthology from Membran. Like most Membran anthologies it's not perfect but you can't beat the prize! From King Ubu: "Allen, this one's available - there was a 2CD Mosaic (which I don't have, alas)" It was a BN reissue. One CD, not 2!

I already have those DETS on vinyl... the one release I am really waiting for is the Cotton Club broadcasts. Hope it will include hitherto unpublished material

I would say: forget about BN original pressings. The Mobleys are way beyond any normal person's means. Instead I would concentrate on getting the Japanese King pressings now. Quality of the covers and the vinyls is - most of the time - just about as good as the BNs you can find. Those King LPs are still pretty accessible. And bound to be very expensive in a few years' time.

Charles Aznavour who turned 85 this year has a new album out this week on Capitol. Recorded last May in Los Angeles. Aznavour is backed by the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra. Have not heard it yet. Jacky Terrasson is among the musicians featured on the album.
