If we're talking about the 1961 Sankei Hall concert, I'll agree with Dan on this one! Very good even if there are better datesby this group!

Trouble ahead for Lance Armstrong
brownie replied to brownie's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The Chatenay-Malabry just say they cannot link the results to Lance Armstrong or anybody because they work 'blind'. That's the rulee. There is no doubt about their finding illegal substances. It is journalists from the newspaper 'L'Equipe' who were able to link the negative tests to Lance Armstrong. The laboratory is not able to determine to whom the samples belong. The results of their analysis are sent to the competent powers so that the powers can know to whom the tests can be linked. 'L'Equipe' could do this. No apologies needed. Unless they come from Lance Armstrong -
Anybody caught that? Last week's news... Sly Stone

Trouble ahead for Lance Armstrong

Berigan, you continue to cast this as a France vs. USA story. It's not. Before Lance Armstrong, there was Greg LeMond who was and still is hugely popular around here. Part of the problem with Armstrong is that he was tested positive back in 1999 when he won the Tour de France for the first time but he escaped sanctions because of the lenient attitude of the world cycling governig body and the Tour de France organisers. When he tested positive back in 1999 for corticoid triamcinolone, Armstrong's doctors provided him with the medical certificates authorising use of the prohibited substances, adding he was taking them to treat road rash. Armstrong, in violation of cycling rules, had not declared usage of it. It's a fact is that Armstrong should have been banned from the Tour for this back in 1999. That he was allowed to go scotfree has only fueled the controversy. Now the word is out that he tested positive repeatedly. His reputation is sadly tarnished for all the world to see! And LeMond has joined the opponents of Armstrong by now! -
Had a fresh look at Luc Ferrari's 'Les Grandes Repetitions' on Cecil Taylor. It was Sandy Bethune who did most of the interviews. Ferrari stayed out of that. Bethune was a black Haitian intellectual and Cecil Taylor played one of his cat-and-mouse game with him. Bethune was pretty displeased about this. His name does not appear anywhere in the credits.

Same on the LP issue I have (Paul Chambers/John Coltrane 'High Steps' BN twofer). 'Eastbound' clocks in at 4:20.

I've seen the August 24 date listed for this but the 3CD reissue gives August 29. ← The liner notes to the 3CD issue list three dates for the full sides contained in the set: August 17, 21 and 29. The previous 'official date' was August 24, 1961, including the Michel Ruppli Clef/Verve Labels Discography. The liner notes to the 3CD set seem to have been carefully researched, so be it!

P.L.M., as far as I remember, Luc Ferrari did not conduct the interview during the filming. This was done by Tahitian poet Sandy Bethune. Will check again later when I rewatch the show. The show was shot in three days. I was on hand during the full filming. It was filmed in the 17th Century Hotel de Coulanges which was under renovation in 1966. The buiding (which is not a residential hotel but one of the most beautiful building of its time) is on the former Place Royale, now Place des Vosges, a famous square in the Marais district in the heart of Paris. My wife and I walked near the Marais area last week and we went past the building. It has undergone some renovation since 1966 but is still being beautified. There is a plaque outside one of the huge windows indicating that the famous French woman of letters Marquise de Sevigne was born there. No mention of the Ferrati/CT show shooting...

Trouble ahead for Lance Armstrong

So if nothing can be done, why test these old samples for a second time, 6 years after the fact? ← Because the technique now being used was not available back then. Out of the 12 samples that tested positive now, six were traced to Lance Armstrong. The identification of the samples was not the purpose of the tests. It was the journalists team from the sports newspaper 'L'Equipe' that was able to ascertain the identifications of the samples. It can be added that 'L'Equipe' is part of the organising committee of the Tour de France race and the newspaper is perfectly aware that the revelations will tarnish the image of the Tour. They went ahead anyway! -
The label is not listed but I am pretty sure Shelly Manne's 'My Fair Lady' was Contemporary's best seller.

Trouble ahead for Lance Armstrong

Thanks, couw for taking care of the answers. I have no personal hatred against Lance Armstrong, he is a great champion, no doubt. I just want to state that I am against any hypocrisy. Armstrong has built an image of himself as a Mr. Clean! That's hypocrisy personified. The truth is slowly emerging, even if it takes longer because the doping tests have to adjust each year to the developments of the doping techniques. I have had first hand informations (very private and very offtherecord) from inside Armstrong team several Tours ago on what was going on (and posted something along those lines back on the old BNBB). The new case will once again blacken the image of cycling. The sport does not need that. I'll also add that it's another sad facet we have of the US press shying away from the story and keeping on its blinders when facing Armstrong. It says a lot on the current state of the media! -
Luc Ferrari produced the excellent series 'Les Grandes Repetitions' for the French TV. One of the films featured Cecil Taylor and was shot in Paris in 1966 when Cecil Taylor has Jimmy Lyons, Alan Silva and Andrew Cyrille in his Unit. The Cecil Taylor film is one of the best jazz show ever filmed. Ferrari produced this film which was directed by Ferrari's usual partner Gerard Patris. Ferrari's death is very sad news.

An old vinyl hound like yourself might already have it as Spanish Steps? ← Nada on Spanish Steps Saw the vinyl quite often when it was available and there were all those other great Hampton Hawes albums around! Made the wrong choice then and did not take the steps. I'll correct that now:

I would say 'almost everybody'. And now that the times are changing, there's a healthy group of young participants in cycling competitions which want to get rid of the doping influence. Armstrong has not helped them and continues - despite the mounting evidence - to maintain that he is clean. There was a similar situation with French cycling darling Richard Virenque - a less brilliant and less intelligent cyclist than Armstrong - who was accused of similar wrongdoings and constantly denied it until he was faced with the evidence. At least, Virenque recognised he had indeed cheated. He returned to the Tour de France for a couple of years and remained the darling of part of the French cycling fans until he retired last year. -

Berigan valiantly rises to the defense of another Texan liar. Lance Armstrong will not be prosecuted for this and can continue to deny he ever used performance-enhancing drugs all he wants. But the proof is out in the public this time. By the way, when the new tests were done, the frozen urine tests were picked at random from the several available without the researchers knowing there were some samples from Armstrong. When EPO was found in several, the researchers then matched the samples to identify who they belonged to! EPA was found in six samples from Lance Armstrong! That Armstrong used the substances has been an open secret for several years. It has now been scientifically proven.
