  5. I also have that French DMM BN of 'Far Away Lands'. Will happily get a better CD reissue when it becomes available. Unless the reissue is from the same digital remastering job attributed to Ron McMaster and Wally Trangott. My copy also includes a giant foldout copy of a blue/white BN label on one side and portraits of many BN stars on the other side. Courtesy of Manhattan Records. Nice!
  6. ← That's what the cover (front and back) says. 1958 back cover note: Sounds stereo to me! Beautiful cover shot of the three leaders by the great Lee Friedlander!

  12. Another great David Stone Martin design! The Getz at the Shrine date was also issued as a double LP with a different cover. A darkish black and white closeup of Getz playing saxophone with a yellow background. Not as effective as the DSM one! Now playing: Stan Getz Special, vol. 1 In Quartet feat. Scott LaFaro/Roy Haynes (Raretone), the 1961 Newport Festival. LaFaro died in a car crash a couple of days after his Newport appearance.
  13. Haven't done my homework on BFT 29 yet! Hope I'll be quicker on BFT 30. PM sent!

The French Polydor session was produced when Bright (with Richard Davis and Art Morgan) came to Paris with Sarah Vaughan. A favorite Lester Young session from the Verve days is the 'Pres and Teddy' album with Teddy Wilson. Pres at his most inventive and swinging!
  20. On the menu tonight will be goat cheese from southern France accompanied by fresh bread and a bottle of 2004 Montravel white wine. My better half and I bought the cheese at the local market in southern France on the eve of our return to Paris. The goat cheese is locally made. One of the cheese is sold fresh after being mixed with garlic! Couple of other cheese are aged and are rock-hard. All delicious!

  24. One of Robert Wise's best film - and one of his most personal - was I Want To Live which starred Susan Hayward as Barbara Graham who was convicted of murder and died in the gas chamber. The film had a superb score by Johnny Mandel. Gerry Mulligan led a combo in scenes from the film.
  25. Happy Birthday, Dan! Trust you're spinning some Three (OK, make it Four today!) Sounds
