  1. From AP:
  2. The deal has yet to be finalised. From Billboard/Reuters:
  3. At long last, real soccer. Sweden deserved to even the score. Best match so far. The Swedes deserve to go far in this championship!
  4. Clem, sorry I know films better than poetry. But your post seems to have hidden treasures that I will need to check. Nice piece of poetry you attached. Strange how those Michele Morgan and Gerard Philippe scenes in 'Les Orgueilleux' (1953 flick by Yves Allegret) remain evocative. If I remember well, Martin Scorcese also drew ecstasic about the scene where Michele Morgan gets a needle injection. And since you seem very interested in French litterature, trust you know that Yves Allegret was Andre Gide's nephew. And a not very good film director. Now let me get back to Frank O'Hara's poems...
  5. Mike, I have not read that one and it does not look like it is currently available: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1...9017822-8782253 There is also a chapter on Brubeck in Ted Gioia's 'West Coast Jazz' that is pretty interesting.
  6. The EU is all set now to recommend the Sony-BMG merger. From Reuters:
  7. Always thought that the best poet of his generation was Frank O'Hara. http://www.frankohara.com/
  8. Couw, I figured out your mind was somewhere else
  9. OK, let the fun begin... From the New York Times today:
  10. Looks like Spielberg financed part of the costs of the film production by having commercial firms footing a number of bills. Many scenes from 'The Terminal' where shot in a Burger King set that was constructed for the film. Burger King paid for having their name fully displayed. Same went for the various shops (some 40 outlets) that are shown in the film: Godiva chocolates, Au Bon Pain bakery, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Baskin & Robbins icecreams. The film will be released here in September. Not sure I want to watch a giant advertisement movie but will probably catch this just to get a chance at seeing Benny Golson. Hope he did not have to pay for his participation!
  11. Well, the truth is finally revealed! And track 15 turns out to be from that Bill Evans box I have rusting in a corner. Could not remember that fun minute. It was a very nice touch to close the BFT with this! And now that I know what track 12 (I Cover the Waterfront) is, I will be looking for a copy of that Peter Asplund album. None of the names of the musicians are familiar. I have yet to see the Satchmo connection, the Armstrong version is one of the first Satchmo I ever heard. Thanks again, Daniel. Really enjoyed the disc!
  12. waddya mean? I'm not down. Just staying miles away from the game. I described the game once as kindergarten stuff. And repeat it now. Wonder on the mental age of participants
  13. I caught the Basie band several times. First time was in 1957 at the London Royal Albert Hall. I wrote a short article on the concert in 'Jazz Hot'. Will have to dig up the issue to refresh the memory and will post an account then. The band was in its full glory then!
  14. Well, the French will have to play better if they want to get further. The whole team seemed disorganised at the start of the second half and Croatiaq did not miss their opportunity to take the lead. Just too bad that Gallas missed scoring at the 42nd minute on a brilliant pass from Henry following a kick by Zidane. That should have gone into the goalmouth! But the second half of the match was really exciting. Not brilliant but exciting! French coach Jacques Santini has some serious thinking to do for the next matches.

I have several including 'For Adolphe Sax', 'Nipples' and 'Live At Nefertiti'. The Nefertiti is the one I like best.
  17. That "chick", as you call her is one of the greatest actresses ever. She is french, by the way. That should be enough... ubu and didn't her physician father own an crop of land somewhere in the south pacific inhabited by weird creatures? B) Got this wrong! He was an artist whose paintings are housed in a museum near Pigalle.
  18. If I were the Pope, Lorraine Gillespie and Nellie Monk would be saints!

Is Brotzmann 'Balls' one to get? Have a copy on hold and wondering if I should add it to the CD pile that is growing in my listening room. I heard conflicting views on it.
  20. Have not listened to my copy yet. Was planning to do this quietly over the weekend. Better get my act together...
  21. Totti gets the sentence. He is suspended for 3 games. From AP:
  22. I am pretty sure that none of the various Errol Garner BN 10-inchers did not come out on US CD reissues.
  23. The English have to sweat a lot. They cannot afford to lose. They're going to be very tough on the Swiss. Bet the Swiss team will be out of the championship this evening.
  24. I have yet to hear this reissue. This was recorded in Madagascar in the sixties. This is how the Paris Jazz Corner site - http://www.parisjazzcorner.com/ - announces the disc: ''This is a forgotten masterpiece that we are proud to offer you 2 weeks before its worldwilde release ! Recorded in tanannarive and Paris at the turn of the 60s, the music of the young Malagasy players and their mentor Jef Gilson evokes Dorothy Ashby, Coltrane and the best Chicago honkers. Their version of 'The Creator has a masterplan'competes with the original (some of us even think it is better), the drive of the malagasy percussions and the haunting sound of the valiha (traditionnal harp) will put you in an enlighting trance. Featuring : Sylvain Marc (bass), Serge Rahoerson, Georges Rahoerson, Arnaud Razafy, Del Rabenja, Ange 'zizi' Japhet CD, stereo, new, 14.00 euros [16.80 US$, 1,848.00 ¥) Record's condition : S Cover's condition : S '' I am not a big fan of Jef Gilson albums but that one might be worth investigating.
  25. I resent that! But you're right! The lineup for tonights match has still to be announced. Pires may be left out of the match and Sylvain Wiltord might be called in. Makelele who is injured should be replaced by Olivier Dacourt. Will see what the French coach Jacques Santini has up his sleeves!
