Last UFO I spotted several years ago went by the name of Sun Ra!

Ubu, 'Legba Crossing' was not sold separately. It was included in the FMP 11CD Cecil Taylor Berlin 1988 box. CT did not play on 'Legba Crossing', he directed the mostly-German ensemble playing his music.

Always found Gerard Badini a bit of a lightweight tenor. Not in the same league as Guy Lafitte!

This album was reissued on Concord CJ41 under the title 'Richie'. A beautiful album. The Jazzz LP had an ugly brownish sketch on its cover.

I would concur with couw. Gerard Badini should be the tenor saxophonist on that Brigitte Bardot/Claude Bolling track. Badini is to Bolling what Gonsalves was to Duke.

There's also a CD under Guy Lafitte's name which was published recently by the Hot Club de France. A live session with a small group that includes trumpet player Jean-Claude Naude. Recorded in 1982. Trying to de-stress right now for a couple of weeks. Deep in Armagnac country in southwest France in an area which is not included in the portable-phone access zones. A regular phone line is good enough to keep in touch for emergencies. The armagnac available in the neighborhood is the real stuff which makes it a Friday night every night.!

They may be uneven but I'll be glad when they come out. Great news...

It's a highly recommended album. Lot of interesting aspects of Tristano's music is explored on that one. Nothing left-over there. Just a very good gathering of Tristano's previously unheard tracks. Still enjoy the original LP.

In France, Tchaikovsky is definetely 'tsh'. Same for Chekhov. But Shostakovich is 'sh'. Charlie (Parker of Mingus) is 'sh. Chet Baker is 'tsh'. Cha Cha Cha is 'tsh' There's a new cyberword now 'Tchat', the French version of chat... a firm 'tsch' word. French people don't stick to rules...

Disc 1 of the Jimmy Lyons box from Ayler Records did it for me recently.

Love all these albums but... My favorite Brown and Roach remains the Clifford Brown-Max Roach in Concert album that came out on GNP. It was the one that had me catch the Brownie bug. Still love it!

My Galaxy box has a tiny sticker from Tower Records with a $223,99 price tag. Bought the box when it came out around 1990 but can't recall buying this in the USA (and carrying it back). Probably got it in Paris at a more reasonable price.

I've been listening to recently-released double-CD Persian Surgery Dervishes (Felmay), and I've been vewry impressed. These are solo organ improvisations performed by Riley in early 70s. Dark mesmerizing stuff. Very good for long rides in the night or bad weather (I'll be probably listening to it on my way to Zurich tomorrow). And I never knew that Riley was such a mighty player! Typical of Barney Kessel's brillance was his contribution to Julie London's 'Cry Me a River'. His playing fits right in the mood of the song. His spare playing there is masterly. He is being missed.

Nice. Very nice. When this came out, I was not sure I really needed that one. Now that I have got it, I rate it as one of the best of the recent jazz boxes. Essential for Dexter fans. Lots of additional tracks, most of them superb. The rest merely very good!

Ira Gitler in his liner notes to Coltrane's 'Soultrane' album - where 'Theme for Ernie' was introduced - says Freddie Lacey was a Philadelphian. Maybe some Philadelphian on this board know something about him. Was he the same Fred Lacey who played guitar with Lester Young in the forties?

All his fans knew he had bad health problems. Very sad to hear that the end came. He gave us so much pleasure. A great guitar player has gone.

An old favorite is the John Carter Quintet 'Variations', a Moers Music LP. Quite an interesting lineup there: Bobby Bradford (who is being discussed on a parallel thread) on trumpet, Carter on clarinet, James Newton on flute, Bob Stewart on tuba and Philip Wilson on drums. Not sure it was released on CD.

No information from the usual news sources. And that looks like good news to all fans of Elvin Jones. The man still has some fire on him... Let's all hope he pulls through!

Whattaya mean? This is great news! Hope the price will be even higher if I ever have to sell my copy. Mine looks just as good as the one which just sold. It's mono too.
