2020-21 MLB Hot Stove Discussion
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Oh well but I guess 2021 continues to be weird as 2020, because the Red Sox and Yankees made a trade, and a legit useful major leaguer was sent north. (Looks like a salary dump by the Yankees.) https://www.mlb.com/news/adam-ottavino-red-sox-trade Meanwhile, we find out about the Cooperstown vote tonight at 6 pm and frankly I don't think that Schilling makes it and will go to a 10th try: https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=F2E5D8FC5199DFAF!31002&ithint=file,xlsx&authkey=!AKnsRGrHzGEkOuw He's barely over 75% in public ballots, and apparently you need a cushion because non-public ballots tend to have fewer players listed. The others near 75% are Bonds and Clemens - of course Schill is the only guy without baggage unless you hold his nut-job politics against him. (And I had no idea he made any comments supportive of the Capitol riot/insurrection earlier but I can't say I'm surprised.) -
I will say I hadn't thought of Mosaic as an outlet for unfinished Sunnenblick projects. I figured maybe Zev and Cory get the chance to pick over the assets ... someday, or maybe Resonance.

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee

But it isn't really clear that concierge doctors are even getting the stuff in the first place. I am nevertheless not surprised that patients paying $20,000 a year (Mom' option was definitely less than that) to expect that this would be covered and expedited too. -

Well heaven help me and my sister if Mom suffers or dies because we pushed her to get vaccinated. Apparently her doctor (who sucks in our opinion) switched to offering a 'concierge' option go go along with his current 'Medicare Mill' practice a year or two ago. Mom wouldn't go for the concierge option and that's why the doctor's office is leaving her high and dry on getting the shot, sink or swim, find it on your own, lady. Speaking of which I'll be back online early Wed morning trying to get her in at Publix. -
True but I'm having trouble finding confirmation that BJP was gigging on piano at the time. It being a potentially special occasion might have led to Leonard Gaskin being sure to roll tape that night but who knows.

Now that's a great idea but I understand there are issues between the kids and who knows what could possibly be worked out. And who knows if there will be anything after that Dodo release.

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee

This is pretty ridiculous to hear. The testing for safety and efficacy were not shortened in any way shape or form. The people who took the risk are the ones who signed up to be guinea pigs as they were the ones who could reasonably think that it was "thrown together in a few weeks" - even though it wasn't, as they followed the established protocols for testing for safety, and then efficacy, and then the large-scale testing. It is very disheartening that medical professionals are saying this, or destroying doses for supposed threat to DNA. And this is, by the way, for vaccines that, if I recall correctly, and forgive me if this only applies to one of the vaccines and not the total of all approved vaccines but: N = 33000 "Severe" cases of Covid = 1 Yes, a former (banned) member is casting aspersions due to supposed prior lies told at JazzCorner. Regardless, it's still entirely unclear how an injection caused such violent gastro-intestinal problems, and so quickly. Known side-effects seem to be the anaphalactic reaction, and normally mild flu-like symptoms. Not violent retching etc etc. seemingly in less than hour after injection? -
Brits planning to buy from JazzMessengers?

I thought the reference was selling a certain world religion. -

All of the stories I've heard of reactions is anaphalactic kind - constricted throat, if you keep an epi-pen handy, take it with you kind of thing. So this person's reaction is not only extreme but in terms I hadn't heard of before. -
I remember hearing about him, I think our old friend Mr. Fenohr was looking for a copy and I spotted one and fulfilled his need. This was back when I was on the trail of Argo records, but without a true commitment to everything. (Still never found the Richard Evans Home Cookin' thing, with Jack Wilson on piano. God still only knows if it was released. I know Evans told Eddie Higgins he remembers having photos taken outside of a soul food restaurant, for the cover.)

This has been proven false. CNN, being stenographers if (D) follows your name, was happy to report it though. On top of that his 100 million in 100 days is a laughable goal as we're already at more than 1 million a day right now. Must be Saviour Biden's infinitely effective Federal plan though, huh? He's going to beat that goal and everyone will cry "HOSANNA". As far as one shot vs 2, the first shot is like 80% effective. More 1st shots into more arms will get us past this sooner. Just because its SOP to vaccinate a second time 3-4 weeks later doesn't mean one shot now and make sure of getting everybody caught up eventually is bad policy or that the effectiveness is automatically compromised. I'd be happy to get a jab now and another one in the summer.

I've learned that the story Percy told was that "Honky Tonk" first took shape while he was still in the band ... he convinced Phil Schaap who credits his story as true though it directly contradicts the story told by Doggett about how it came to be. Who really knows, but Percy definitely called one of his bands "Honky Tonk Part 3" and on tour with the Oliver Jackson Trio, he sometimes gave credit to himself as a composer of the tune. It's odd if he left Doggett because he didn't think they were having the success they should have had, if Honky Tonk was percolating among the band members at the same time.

Braves legend Hank Aaron dies at age 86

I wonder what year that was and what $500 is in today's dollars. -
This seems smarter than the mad scramble here to sign up for limited slots that open and close in a relative blink. Maybe a new poll, what percentile do you expect to be in when you get the vaccine? I think I'll be lucky to be around the 50th and probably closer to the 80th, though it seems possible or even likely that we are going to see larger deliveries of vaccines even as more get vaccinated.

I'd be curious the system being used, I haven't heard of registering ahead of time. In FL different counties have different systems and Publix is also active in many though hardly all counties. There are supposedly drive-up locations in Hillsborough but our elderly aunt/uncle have not tried, partially because she is hearing of multi-hour waits and her back couldn't handle such a thing and still climb the stairs to their apartment.

I haven't seen recent numbers regarding NY vaccination rates/gross numbers but it would be a big step in the right direction if they have stopped pitching doses because no one who "qualifies" is available. And I understood that Cuomo threatened a $10,000 fine for innoculating someone who isn't currently 'eligible,' and even if we don't think that people who can afford "concierge" doctors should jump any lines, its still better to get doses in arms, IMO. -
David, these answers won't cover a good chunk of the 'mericans. Here, its pretty much limited to medical personnel and 65 years and older. I don't qualify - obviously there are a few of us who are over 65 and eligible. I am actually curious what the prevailing systems are for Larry, Chuck et. al. I am presently trying to get my mother situated to get the first shot at a Publix pharmacy, I was in their scheduling system for about 90 minutes this morning starting at 6 am, and never got out of the "waiting room". Next chance Wednesday at the same time. What's ironic is that my mother is the least enthusiastic about getting a shot/not getting a shot and its me and my sister who are trying to get her situated so she'll be protected. I figure me and the wife are looking at Spring before we'll be able to get jabbed.

And this is good, bad or indifferent? When you can expect to pay $4 for domestic shipping of a single CD, this seems fairly reasonable to me. -

So Yankees are saying hello to Corey Kluber and goodbye to JA Happ apparently ... I would guess there is more upside to Kluber if he stays healthy but that's been a question mark for a while, and Happ has (I believe) been as durable as they come. Seems like more of a wash especially factoring in how lopsided the Yankee rotation will be. If Kluber excels in his last "prove I'm healthy so I can cash in" season then maybe its a net positive for them. -
My username photo is of our beloved departed canine companion Coltrane, named by the Humane Society of Broward County and a major reason why we felt that it was kismet that this was the one dog my wife liked on her walk-thru of their kennel.
