  1. You messed up the message by extending it to include discogs, by implication. Your assertion about Moerer and discogs has no basis in fact. A normal human being would say, "whoops fellas, sorry for connecting him to discogs. Guess I was wrong." But no, you double down on your assertion with zero evidence behind it again. And I'm the prick in this. Yeah right.
  2. What does this have to do with running discogs??? You seem to be asserting facts not in evidence and then doubling down with out anything to back it up.
  3. Chuck, color me curious: what was the extent of your listening to the neo-boppers of the 80s and 90s, say? Did you retain anyone's CDs even if there's no one you listen to now? I am always curious how folks who were around "back when" reacted to revivalism. I would not have pegged you as even listening to much or any of that style at the time.
  4. I would say two who apprenticed in Horace Silver's group together: Brian Lynch and Ralph Moore. Lynch remains a creative guy in a variety of settings, one of the better neo-boppers maybe because he has expanded his horizons of his endeavors? Moore is no different than before, nothing new there but I've always enjoyed his tone and style. He's made some nice records in the last few years since his return to active performing.
  5. I'll bet there were still plenty of sucking up going on for those big-ass Dunkin' boxes. One thing I will say about Dunkin': the bagel box thing *sucks*. I recall a company rep always bringing that stuff in instead of the donut box. Do you have to be from the northeast or major metropolitan areas to understand what a bagel should be and what is most definitely NOT a bagel except in superficial terms like being round and having a hole in the middle?
  6. Well you know 'em; I was just commenting on the photos of the donuts on the home page. Looks like a lot more effort goes into most of those offerings than Dunkin'. And of course way more than KK where they just go down a conveyor belt to be smothered in greasy liquified sugar. But it's hot! As far as apple fritters, yeah, anytime I'm in. I even get them at the local chain gas station with the daily delivery of bakery goods. How bad can a fritter ever be? It makes me wonder what one might be like from a place like Bunkie's. Probably best that I can't partake, I might have the same reaction as Jim to hot Krispy Kreme and end up OD-ing.
  7. I understood Discogs is not effected and that Dave James must have been misinformed. My concern was the payment system used by discogs. I assumed that they at least operate the direct credit card payment system as its on their website and available for use in lieu of paypal. But you are saying they only get paid by seller post-sale. I guess that works to make sure you get your cut - if you don't they lose that major avenue for sales.
  8. Is this really true currently? Because I see options to use a c/c directly and sometimes options for paypal only. I thought the c/c payment was a pass thru from discogs to seller, an option sellers can choose? I'll be happy to know if that is not the case but how does discogs get paid otherwise? Rely on sellers to "give back" their fee at the end of every month??
  9. Wait, what??? Records by Mail IS discogs? How the hell did I not know this, and what is the implication? He doesn't say discogs was hacked, that his mail-order house was. I order thru discogs though usually utilizing paypal way more often than I've ever used RBM, and if my info was on their server, and they actually did reach acct #s, I am practically certain that info was at least one updated card ago. I really want to know now what company was hacked.
  10. I've no doubt that this Shipley place is awesome ... I am not comparing artisan donuts to either Dunkin or Krispy Kreme. I am just comparing national chain options and I'll always go Dunkin' over KK for donuts and Dunkin' over Starbucks for coffee. That Starbucks shit is so bitter and nasty, their incredible success is utterly beyond me.
  11. This is what I was thinking ... thanks Allen.
  12. I completely forgot that he had those postseason problems ... and honestly - don't know where my head is at - but I initially said "2017? That was a five game series won by the Sox."
  13. Been a very long time on seeing the film and not sure I want to. I am interested, in a perverse way, in the up close and personal view of Bird the man and it actually interests me if the worst of Bird in the movie had Chan as the source? Again, long time since I saw the movie when it was released. I mostly use my own ears for Bird's music. (though I remain interested in Stanley's first volume bio of Bird which I imagine has more music discussion (plus trains!))
  14. I believe I saw 35 but he might be 36 before or during the 2021 season.
  15. Now that I cannot imagine, especially when the major competition (outside of all those ridiculous artisan coffee shops in every "hip" city in the country) is Starbucks which is the single nastiest, most bitter and horrifyingly bad "coffee" in the world. but your mileage may very well vary.
  16. So I sprang for this from a Christmas Amazon gift card and now Amazon is pimping Chan's book by the same title. This is a must-have, isn't it? I honestly didn't know about her book and you'd think I'd heard about it when published 20 years ago. I don't really need too much encouragement but curious what people think of it. And anyway since its the same name as Phil's book I am not really changing the threat topic at all, right?
  17. Actually, I consider the no-substance element to be intrinsic to "fresh and hot" - then is when it disappears in your mouth. When congealed and not hot or quite so fresh, they are more substantial empty greasy sugar bombs.
  18. He's been almost absolute lights-out since mid-2019 thru this season's strangeness. I think he's really special right now, just waiting to find out that the catcher needs to have 11 signs to flash, not 10. And I do believe that the dimensions of San Diego will help him out on giving up long balls compared to Wrigley. I feel bad for the guy he seemed so happy to be in Chicago but he probably gets in the swing of things pitching for a serious contender.
  19. I never encountered Krispy Kreme until I arrived at Florida State in 1983. To me, donuts were Dunkin' and they remain that way though I very rarely partake, especially working from home for almost all of the last five years - no donuts brought in by reps of various companies. I know Dunkin Donuts have their detractors. To me KK donuts are just greasy sugar bombs with no substance. Y'all (and I am pretty sure in 1983 this was a southern thing) can have 'em.
  20. That's the beauty of our plentitude of cover topics, you can look for one kind and find another.
  21. https://www.mlb.com/news/yu-darvish-trade-padres-cubs I don't at all mind that the Padres seem to be building a juggernaut to really take it to the defending world champions and I get that the Cubs are trying to rebuild for the long haul but it definitely sucks that they appear to be throwing in the towel on 2021 long before spring training. I am not looking forward to letting my 85 year old Mom know what happened ... now my question is, does this mean that they'll keep Kris Bryant in his walk year and hope that a bounce-back year means a still decent haul for whoever needs him as a rental mid-season? Or will he still be dangled to stockpile more hoped-for potential talent? If they send him off too they are truly sacrificing 2021. And that would suck. Who knows how many more seasons Mom will be around to watch?
  22. And here I am thinking she knew just what to do, took a photo of your Blue Note section, upload, easy peasy, blanket arrives ten days later. Very neat I have to say. The designer has good taste.
