I'd hope for all of those things but then I read this After the collections are processed by archivists and preservationists, they will be made available for researchers at The Library for the Performing Arts in Lincoln Center. And think, highly unlikely. You have to prove your bona fides and you'll be allowed to listen and take notes or whatever.

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'm sorry to hear that your Dad isn't bouncing back. Hopefully that changes. I am seriously unsure why people think the new President will change things appreciably in any serious time frame. I read today the House expects to pass another Covid bill by end February/beginning March. Still has to go thru the Senate. Fact of the matter to me is we have a Federal system with States in charge of the process. Some inevitably will do better than others (and why would any be wasting the defrosted Vac because they won't go against the required distribution priority? Take a lesson from Israel, people. And by the way that scenario is NY where Saint Cuomo is in charge). And we should never discount the injurious effects of beauracracy in general. Enough though of politics. I agree that things will get worse as the more contagious versions spread, and IMO the differences going forward between administrations will be very much at the margins. Anyway I look forward to Friday when I am getting up extra early so that I am online at 6 am when Publix' website will go live again for setting appointments for Covid vaccinations at their pharmacies. Will it be like the last time I got my wife tickets for Def Leppard, except even nose bleed won't be available within seconds of the opening? If someone invented sniping software for Covid appointments they'd make a fortune. I'll let you guys know how I do securing an appointment for Mom. -

Well yeah ... he certainly was a 1 or a 2 on a few of those Dodger teams post Koufax and Drysdale. -

Sutton was a bit of a compiler at the end but still a top pitcher in several categories - and never missing your turn should count for something, too. And that yakker sure was fun to watch. RIP. Meanwhile, the Red Sox will probably suck for two more years at least, but it does warm this Yankee-hater's heart if the Jays are really getting Springer. Three strong teams in one division tends to keep total wins down, making any Yankee run to the Series that much harder. -
Very cool find, I must say and yes, this is like me finding the only known recording of the Four Sounds before they were the Three Sounds. It got into the right hands.

Would be even better if it were the same sweater but not quite ... And get a load of that CD collection behind him.

Nope no Mickey Fields.

What I am more curious about is, what kind of money was Spector pulling in for his production/songwriting credits? I've never really gotten a handle on such things and been somewhat curious about it. What did he pull in annually in the 21st century? How does it compare to his peak? If you wrote a half-dozen "hits" in the 90s - what are you getting nowadays? Is the money all dried up?

Setting aside Philadelphia and St Louis for the two identified tracks (and Dallas, which Jim didn't fully identify the recording but named the star artist), the following cities are referenced among the remaining tracks: Milwaukee Birmingham (at the time of recording, could also be Milwaukee) Baltimore D.C. NYC New Haven Chicago and what I am going to call Ohio/Indiana (Ohio for location of recording, Indiana for apparent long-term involvement) And I just hope that HP and Thom (and Milestones) are able to join in ...

No dog in the fight but ... had hardbopjazz put Reddy's thread in Artists, would you have moved it out or let it stand?

George Coleman In Baltimore 1971 (Left Bank) out Nov 27/Dec 11

Finally listened to this, I would give it 3 or 3 1/2 stars, and the reason being that the performance of Body & Soul was a major turn-off. Saxophone gymnastics on a ballad ain't my thing, and I'll always say this: circular breathing on a ballad is a contradiction in terms. I've never enjoyed ballads that don't stay as ballads. I mean what story is being told? That at least one in the couple is a manic-depressive? Bottom line, I like, but don't love Big George, and he played as well as I'd expected. His colleagues definitely helped on the rating. Call it 4 stars, reduced by 1 star for the "ballad" feature, adding 1/2 star for pianist and trumpeter = 3 1/2 stars. -
Sad news but a great and quite lengthy career.
-
So why don't you take it up with Matthew, who put him here, and Hardbopjazz who didn't put Reddy here?
-
Ah, I see. Might have been more appropriate to have narrowed it from "my children's generation" to "my children's friends" - then I wouldn't have sought clarification of what seemed like a sweeping statement about a not-inconsequential chunk of the population.

How exactly is Lee Morgan "ultra hip" among this mid-late 20s generation? Why/how do they even know him? Was Sidewinder used on a commercial down under that I never heard about? Did I called him Morgan play to sell out crowds on college campuses? My nephews/niece aren't quite to that age but they sure as hell have no idea who Lee Morgan would be, so I am very curious how Lee achieved this stature.

Do you not recall that they did not commit to the Mobley until after running a pre-order promotion to verify interest? There was discussion here about supporting Mosaic and encouraging them. I pre-ordered and when finances took a hit in between pre-order and delivery, was able to cancel, thankfully. As for adjusting to the times, yes, of course that has to happen. Maybe I should have said "my how times have changed" instead. But my point was that in the past they offered unique boxes, not rehashes of BN material that for serious collectors, if they have been doing this since at least the dawn of the CD era, have likely purchased the contents at least once in the past and likely several times already.
-
Mosaic just isn't the same anymore. Not that I should act surprised after the Mobley set but ... I wonder if they'll go the pre-order route again to verify interest and commitment to purchase?

Yeah, nor on my card either, since I took him at his word that he was taking a year off. I don't think necessarily helps him on the way to having a stake in ownership ... I wonder how much work they even expect out of him. -
COVID 19 Poll For the New Year
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I continue to wonder if I had a relatively mild case back in January/Feb, if only because its the only time I've ever had a (short-lived) loss of taste with a flu/cold. I remember munching on salted peanuts and could barely sense the saltiness. -

I was wondering and saw that he posted on Wednesday but hasn't given an update on his condition. Hopefully improving. -

Yes, take care of yourself, do what the doctor says and hopefully this is the worst that you'll feel, with recovery commencing soon. -
What sonnymax said!

As opposed to the one doing Sonny Stitt? No, never heard that name before.

Setting aside Percy France, he's the first guy I'd think of when I hear "local" - even if he did go on to international recognition.
