  1. Perhaps but the A's get two of your best starters at least. 1 pm start on the west coast ain't nice after a 1 pm start on the east though.
  2. I feel like the Red Sox and Yankees are just competing to see who plays worse. Shouldn't complain when a game comes off the schedule and the lead is the same but still ... now the Yankees go to the West Coast for the A's and Mariners but the Sox get the Braves and the World Champions. A bunch of pitchers need to find their second wind to carry thru the playoffs.
  3. I've made that exact shot only on the backhand side, around the net, below the net height - and I did it on a standard court with the net posts outside the doubles alley so I had to sprint further outside the court to track it down on a single bounce. Just sayin'.
  4. E-Rod has recorded 12 outs so far, on 10 Ks and no hits. but no run support at all. Good that he's coming out so strong after six weeks.
  5. Yeah Sale is throwing but hasn't graduated to bullpen sessions yet. They are serious about getting the oopsie out of his shoulder this time. And apparently they plan to build him up at the major league level, so probably a start of 3 innings, then five innings, then let him go? That says a lot about your options that they would do that. They could get him ramped up by running simulated games of longer and longer length instead but they want him to get major league outs as soon as possible. It's to be devoutly wished that this helps him in October but having these issues arise so quickly after the first one is disconcerting. Oh, and I withdraw my endorsement of Eovaldi. He's now had 4 crappy starts to 2 good ones. My hope now is that he's moved to the bullpen and told to just air it out. I think the cutter could be a weapon against the righty power hitters on Houston and New York but I don't know what you get with him trying to get thru a line up 3 times. With E-Rod back today, I think Eovaldi has to get his bullpen game on as soon as Sale returns. And I hope that Stephen Wright is ready to be a big help out of the pen. I think Cora is right that a knuckler out of the pen coming off of hard-throwing starters could be very effective.
  6. McCutchen is certainly proof that the Yanks are concerned about when they see Judge on the field again. If this trade were a couple of years ago it would be a more impressive acquisition but two of the last three years he's been a barely-above league average offensive player and he's way below his prime years. Maybe playing for a post-season run will inspire him but he hasn't played like he used to this year.
  7. Singing groups not really my thing. (and I have to say that with cross-over successes like the Coasters or Drifters, I just went to oldies radio to hear the classics.)
  8. Aww Jeez. Gotta be a new record for BFT with albums I have - Soul Cookin', the Crawford thing, and Simpkins? I missed that record? I'm not entirely sure if that was the first of his that I bought or not but I do have all of them I know of. I used that record on one of my earlier ones, trying to get a compare/contrast between an inventor of the style - Tate - and a dedicated student - Simpkins. And I bet that Al Casey was released on one of the Black & Blue reissues so that's four out of 14. JEEZ.
  9. I didn't know the name either, tried the Bluesville release in true the-internet-is-your-friend fashion and was really impressed. Along with his guitar John Wright is on piano and King Curtis on sax. I think I am about to go on an Arbee Stidham jag, his earliest recordings are on a couple of comps that aren't very expensive. And looks like a few LPs late in life. I heard samples of the Mainstream thing first thought was BB guesting with a band not actually his own. I will definitely give it a try.
  10. different from the Bluesville which is so nicely stripped down. But what's up with the hard pan RVG did on the vocals?
  11. Anyone know about the Arbee Stidham release backed by the Ernie Wilkins Orchestra? I just heard his release on Bluesville and am totally knocked out.
  12. That's the studio date for the tunes that were issued on Jazz Corner of The World. Hank's reed squeaks like nobody's business. Though I always thought Lee sounded pretty good, and he gets a little aggravated with the breakdowns. I burned a single CD of the takes that weren't officially rejected. Makes up a mediocre Messengers disc. I love it.
  13. If I had such a thing I'd take it to Las Vegas and see what Rick would offer. His lecture about Blue Note would be fascinating I'm sure.
  14. Looks like this became an all-purpose thread for members named Joe. This one is for Mr. Milazzo:
  15. I see an imagined conversation to rival the one with LD.
  16. Lonesome Sundown - total stage name. And I'm pretty sure Lightnin' Slim wasn't born or conceived in a thunderstorm. But Lazy Lester captured an essential part of the man: Miller gave Johnson his Lazy Lester moniker. “Because I’m never in a hurry,” Johnson said. https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/news/article_f5008af2-a6f6-11e8-a6be-e79cdba7af55.html
  17. Mike, the back cover I have only has Jon Hendricks liners. I do see this: https://www.amazon.com/Good-Git-Together-Jon-Hendricks/dp/B000H3097O Which has the CD back cover with the assumed players but I don't think that's what you believe.
  18. My follow up email come New Years will definitely be "Dude! So what's the schedule for Box #2?" but no, I do not know the guy.
  19. Got a promo email from Sunnyside today so on a lark I inquired about a second set from the Castro archives and ... I got this response almost right away: Hey Dan, There are plans, as a matter of fact. We’ve been working on box #2. It will probably be released next year. I’m not positive that the Dexter Gordon material will be in the box. All the best, Bret Sjerven Sunnyside
  20. I had the original LP and am pretty sure I have xeroxes of the back but I'd have to dig into the closet so if no one else is able to jump in I'll let you know what is on the back cover by the weekend.
  21. Well I will cop to being a tad concerned after they dropped the first two but when I went thru the remaining schedule I assumed a split with Cleveland and that's what we got so I can't be too upset. Hopefully Moreland isn't hurt too bad considering that Holt is back up 3B and 2B and 1B if Devers stays out any longer. August 23 and sitting at 90 wins. On to the Rays who are really playing pretty well.
  22. Terrible news. Definitely a big fan. And I had no idea that was him in the Geico commercial! Gotta spin some Lazy Lester today, and I'll proudly be wearing this t-shirt courtesy of bluesbeat.com.
  23. If the forecast track is accurate they could easily avoid landfall. Not sure how far out the hurricane force winds extend but it looks to me like the winds that reach the islands could stay category 1 or 2. Too early to know for sure so its not hard for me to imagine the level of panic going on. Seen it too many times here in FLA.
