  1. Very intrigued and the price seems right on discogs. And since I don't feel like Sangrey feels about Durham, that's not a drawback.
  2. For the record the A's closed a similar sized gap with the Astros in about exactly the length of time left on the season, and if you look at the schedule (Yanks get Marlins, Orioles, White Sox, Tigers thru Labor Day, while the Sox get Cleveland, Rays on the road, then Marlins and White Sox) the Yankees could tighten the race. Red Sox are so overdue for a slump I am just waiting for any signs. With a chance for a sweep they managed two hits against the Rays and get Kluber today. That can knock a line up backwards. In short while I am not supposed to, I am welcoming Gregorious' trip to the DL as insurance that the Yankees won't make me sweat even a little bit.
  3. Ketchup is as wild and crazy as I go. Can't stand that shitte and that was long before my intestinal fortitude started changing with age.
  4. Well if he actually tagged him from that position yeah he's obviously out. But the different angles particularly from the infield show that the glove didn't touch him until his hip slid into it at which the point the hand is clearly thru the plate. Very clear, very convincing. Also very convincing to my mind is the reaction of the players in this new era. He was jumping up and motioning immediately because he knew. Players who are out on tag plays know.
  5. Can we make a deal for just the Percy France?
  6. There's no space in the set-back for the number of pods you rented?
  7. So did you guys buy a condo and there's no place to put them on a sidewalk or swale? I can't imagine a company not asking up front, where do you want these dropped off and verifying that the new home meets the requirement, or stating up front that it won't. I'd be pissed as hell.
  8. Sale has a terrible career mark against Cleveland. (They collectively OPS .766 against him in 29 starts, so a season's worth of games - easily the worst of all teams with an appreciable number of games-against.) As a comparison the Yankees OPS .544 and the A's are .560, in a little more than half as many games.) Another way to put it would be that when Sale faces the Indians, he faces 2018 George Springer with every batter. Or a little better than 2018 Adam Jones, every batter. Last year I complained bitterly about this when I realized their ace is so pedestrian against a team they are pretty likely to encounter in the playoffs.
  9. Sale pitches Sunday and Bauer is out for 4-6 weeks, so the odds don't favor a sweep.
  10. Well that's a crusher for the Yankees. Lose the series to the Rays at home, 3-1 after: Stanton home run that would have made it 3-2 in the eighth is ruled a double (and on an old fashioned umpire conference, and clearly the right call) bases loaded nobody out in the 9th, I switch tabs and resume work, and the next thing I know Rays set the Yanks down on a foul pop and two strikeouts. 10.5 games now. 27-25 vs the East, when the Red Sox are 43-15. That's the difference, and more. Not to mention splitting with the Mets.
  11. These are two different issues. Throwing in to try to back someone off the plate is completely different from throwing at someone with intent, because the rest of the starting staff can't keep him in the yard. Lame. Stupid. Pathetic. And completely different.
  12. Yeah well that's why I edited the post. (but I wouldn't put it past-a-diving Jeter that he whispered in his managers ear.)
  13. Brad you do know that he hit multiple lead off homers against the Marlins right? He didn't go high and tight he drilled him with one of his hardest fastballs of the season, and the catcher knew what was coming he moved his glove behind the hitter before it was released.
  14. Are the Marlins unusually douche-bag like? The HBP should result in fines and suspensions from the manager to the pitcher to the catcher too. I don't have video but I bet a GIF is out there already. You can see that the catcher scoots over inside for a target but actually moves his glove toward the batter before the pitch is delivered. He knew, it wasn't the pitcher acting on his own. So, manager, pitcher and catcher all serve suspensions and pay fines, and how about something for Jeter too? OK forget Jeter but suspend the pitcher for the rest of the season. No 10 or 15 days to miss two starts. Season. No pay, nothing. Manager for 30 days, or season too.. Catcher gets the same as the pitcher. That will get people's attention.
  15. I don't see this as kickstarter or not very much. Kickstarter charges as soon as goal is met. As I've learned here and with some Brian Lynch projects, it may be quite a while before you actually see what you paid for. Mosaic will charge when they ship your set, as long as you are using a credit card. They're building in guaranteed revenue and presumably profit to both keep the lights on and turn the crank and do it for some other set in the future, and I'm all for that. But like Jim I'm not only not a sale now, I don't think I'm a sale later.

  17. He's not here much but happy birthday to Mr. Flanigin.
  18. Check out the kid at lower left. Wish the camera had stayed on him but you see enough of his reaction. Priceless. What an experience for a young 'un.
  19. I would hope he's still getting picked first for his glove. 8 Gold ones. Plus 271 of those taters.
  20. Well I only see the daily reporting, watch national broadcasts I get to watch. Mom got her Extra Innings package so of course this weekend, when I'd be able to take advantage, is the Rays that I'd be able to see on Sunshine anyway. Anyway I think Mookie has a better shot if he were closer in home runs. Voters love them taters. As an all-around player its Mookie but I think Martinez wins if he ends up at 45+ homers. I guess I should want Mookie too since it would mean I didn't oppose the signing of the 2018 MVP.
  21. When I was much younger I really liked their biggest hits and particularly this track so I look forward to reading the piece. Thanks Brad.
  22. Every kid's dream: down by three, bases loaded, bottom of the ninth, two outs, two strikes and ... https://www.mlb.com/news/david-bote-hits-walk-off-grand-slam-for-cubs/c-290076716 The catcher reaction was instantaneous. Reminds me of when Manny hit the walk-off in the ALDS in 2007. The catcher was out of the circle way before Manny exited. I should check with Mom she never gives up til the last out I hope she didn't have a heart attack on that ending.
  23. Yeah Houston has more worries about the A's than trying to clinch home field (only 2.5 game lead now). It's ridiculous to think that the Red Sox could win ten more and have the 95 wins that Theo always identified as the primary goal as he figured it would always get you to the Dance, whether by winning the division or wild card spot. For the Phillies I think the great advantage is that they used their two aces, Arrieta and the other young guy, over the weekend. I don't even know who else they've got but not facing them again is a blessing. Phils and Braves both have appealing young teams and its good to see them both on the upswing, and both maybe earlier than anyone thought.
  24. Sale picks up where he left off, a dozen Ks in 5 innings. 50 games over .500 on August 12. Never would have predicted it. I'll still say the Mariner's record is safe. Was looking thru the remaining schedule and there are some definite tough series - like the next 12 are Phillies, Rays, Indians and Rays again. Then the Marlins and White Sox, but that's followed by the Braves and Astros. Blue Jays and Mets at home, but then Yankees and Indians on the road, the woe begotten O's and the Yanks to wrap it up. That's a fair bit against playoff teams, and the Rays aren't pushovers as had been expected (Kevin Cash should get some votes for manager of the year, IMO). I'm comfortable forecasting 105 wins as a floor, which is way more than I've ever enjoyed. That assumes some series losses against the toughest teams left, but no sweeps and no extended slumps. Since they've never lost more than three in a row seems like a safe bet.
