  1. How can I ignore this any longer (I think I skipped the first time I saw it because Ben is only on 5 of 11 tracks)? John Tapscott gives it a rave on Amazon, plus other buyers bought Scott Hamilton-Gene Harris, At Last, at the same time. If that's not a sign I don't know what is. Well, new for $4.35 plus shipping ain't bad either. Thanks!
  2. Six All Star selections ain't bad, that's for sure. If Tony Perez labored with last-place teams and Staub played for the Big Red Machine, I think he makes it to the Hall just as Perez did.
  3. I've been such a Ben Webster nut it amazes me that there are still gems to be found, like these two, one issued on Sackville and the other on Storyville. https://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/15781/ben-webster/ben-and-buck-clayton Two great tastes that taste great together, that's for sure. I've had the Verve LP that featured them together but If you've slept on these two they are well worth your attention.
  4. That was the moment to say something about anything "new" from the vaults, or some earth-shaking plan to offer downloads of unissued material. So, same old same old and it gets a big pass from me. YMMV.
  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY 2018!
  6. I had no idea the season starts Thursday (for the Sox at least) and furthermore, with a first four series that goes like this: Rays Marlins Rays (Boston) Yankees (Boston) I'm situated to see the first 12 games of the season on Sunshine, ESPN or MLB Network. Never had that happen but I guess it gives me more time to decide on whether I invest in the Extra Innings package for the first time or not. I assume the cost is still around $160 for the year. And now I realize that since I'm once again hard-wired into the internet with no data caps (Go to hell, Exede!) and the quickest speeds I've ever enjoyed, I guess MLB.TV is another option too.
  7. If these are the only Morgan albums you have, great, have at them. You're not the person who would care to hear the Blues for Mr. Tatum session. You do realize that just because a lot of Morgan albums are "quite dull" and "bore the shit out of you" that to others they epitomize a style of jazz that is the mainstay of their collection?
  8. I know this came up before but of course the search system isn't very helpful. The opening post in this thread does include Canteloupe Woman as a track by Grant Green at the 1966 Newport Jazz Festival And what is interesting about the Giganti del Jazz and Europa Jazz releases is that they give different credits: this one, which I found years ago, https://www.discogs.com/Grant-Green-Kenny-Burrell-Billy-Taylor-Attila-Zoller-I-Giganti-Del-Jazz-Vol-55/release/10871169 Has Attila Zoller on Darn That Dream, and KB on an untitled blues. But this one: https://www.discogs.com/Kenny-Burrell-Billy-Taylor-Grant-Green-Los-Grandes-Del-Jazz-55/master/848134 Has Grant on Darn that Dream, and no KB, only Zoller on the rest of the sides. Been forever since I heard the Giganti tracks but I am going to pull them out now.
  9. Is the Bud/Duke Jordan a keeper? I shouldn't even ask since the price is so right ...
  10. Those two disc European live things should be of interest to those who missed them (actually I have the Blakey only and hope I don't miss the Basie or Cannon ones but I'm trying to go on a CD diet. About as successful as the other kind.)
  11. But Daedelus has six items on offer(?) and our guy Ernie has Millions (well, he's working on it but I don't know if his business name will ever be fulfilled or if its a matter of "puffing"). It's a one man operation with more stock to be listed every day.
  12. Anyone ever encounter EBReggae on Amazon Marketplace? I found them to be a fantastic source of Ace Records releases at way below Amazon rates. And they had lots of other blues/R&B labels. Then late last year I started getting crazy email promotions that went from "$50 off $200 order" to, right before the end, $10 for $100. That's one way to liquidate. But it was worthless because by then they'd stopped stocking any of the good stuff. All that is just to say that www.millionsofrecords.com is Ernie's new venture, and rather than being a music distribution company selling direct to end-users, he's offering out of print CDs at cut-rate prices, usually $1.99 - $3.49 for single disc sets. Mostly Reggae up there but all genres including jazz and blues are represented. Very reasonable domestic shipping, my first order was 13 CDs and it came to less than $36, and good fast service. Here's the jazz page: http://www.millionsofrecords.com/index.php?route=product/search&search_format=CD&search_genre=475 and the blues: http://www.millionsofrecords.com/index.php?route=product/search&search_format=CD&search_genre=105 There are some definite gems in both and for people who missed things when they were new a nice opportunity to nab them now.
  13. Jerry McCain, Blues Singing Man Tried to find a youtube version; I'm sure someone else knows this. A tale of a blues singing man, his new girl, and her mama who don't like him. Perfect lyrics and music - when he promises the mama he'll sing her a "sweet church song" if she don't pull the trigger on her shotgun, everybody drops out for a piano interlude, then back to a very infectious bass line and another verse with a new girl. But he's still got a problem with the mama. I just giggle the whole way thru. Very glad to have discovered this guy recently.
  14. Surprised this hasn't come up after the other discussion. For you musicians are their any songs that get requested that you actually welcome? Many years ago in Tallahassee there was a monthly farmer's market/crafts/flea market downtown with, get this, jazz accompaniment. I can't remember what I asked for, some hard bop standard, probably a Golson composition but the group came back from their break and played it.
  15. And now, the last one before the big 5-0! Hope it's happy Mr. Ties de Rooster!!
  16. thanks for posting this CA. Very interesting, had no idea Caravan's background.
  17. The member, not the tune. Hope it's swingin'!
  18. Happy Birthday 2018 Conrad!
  19. Amazing that he is still going strong. I've always wondered if anyone knows of anyone else who knew Bird or played with him and is still topside. Is Roy the sole survivor? Are there any living kids?
  20. I'd pay to see video of Mingus punching his face in. Other than that, I'm out.
  21. I agree with Jim, kids that age shouldn't be playing changes like repeater pencils. They should find their own shitte. But after watching the videos of Kelly with Mr. Bari and Mr. Bari with his band, jesus christ ... Sorry not sorry.
  22. Her pop-ups are every bit as enduring as the retail ones.
  23. Happy birthday 2018! And its the big 6-0!
  24. Excellent. I only used Euclid as an example, I actually went with four new-to-me Stompin' volumes on LP, the savings basically made the least expensive one free.
  25. So I buy from Euclid Records I am going to get 20% off everything?
