TRACK 1: What's not to like? Hypnotic bass, effective vocal and piano. Didn't really catch a message but ... ****. TRACK 2: Went nowhere, did nothing. I was enchanted. But then came the sax solo. 3 stars for the bassist, minus 3 stars for the sax, but awarded an extra three stars for covering so much of the total run time. That has true value on a Felser BFT. TRACK 3: Started out fine ... I'm returning some pants. Then it takes a most unappealing turn. 3 stars for the bassist, minus two for the guitarist (I assume that is what I heard) and ... Where TF is that vocal coming out of? As I said, most unappealing turn. But that length ... I think I can get it to 1 star total. TRACK 4: Four stars, no debits. How did a non-Felser tune go on a Felser BFT? TRACK 5: Performance/composition ... no stars. Length, 2 stars. TRACK 6: Four star bassist. TRACK 7: 3 1//2 stars. I think it might have been 4 if the baritonist was a tenor instead. TRACK 8: The less said the better. TRACK 9: Hmmm .. no notes. Must have been a full-on Felser. TRACK 10: Yeah, no, nuh huh. TRACK 11: I have a tune on my BFT that is half as long, and I hope, twice as popular. Thanks John!

I had a contact - not even sure who at this point - with the family but their interest in continuing their father's work seems to have died with that one posthumous release.

This is the best endorsement AFAIC. Not convinced yet on the price. Not the first time I've said I am agnostic.

I've enjoyed the Stompin volumes so much that I compared the CDs and the original vinyl and replaced as needed. Like the Vanguard reissues, that is a bit of a discographical nightmare. Pretty sure too that the CDs eventually outstripped the vinyl completely - there are CD volumes with no vinyl analogue.

Thanks, BBS ... I'd throw in the Stompin' volumes, LP and CD. They might not be great for 100% of every release but I have never been disappointed in one of them.

$28 as the low price for a double CD seems outrageous to me.

In this case I am certain that this was a decision based on a resulting price point. Seeing that the material is owned by Concord now ... is this the first time a deal has been made with them? What are the implications for possible future sets, I wonder.

Definitely interested but reading only one unissued track is a little disappointing. Wondering what is truly new to CD since I think I did get all the discographical-nightmare / otherwise-outstanding CD reissues from the early 2000s.

Yes but he does mention the rare Billy Higgins vocal single from the session. Stereo Jack sent me that one about 20 years ago and seems only available on a Jordi Special from FreshSounds? Edit to add: The Glory Smyth album has its pleasures too.

Q is hugely important to "Music" and his loss was sad. But the ones that hit me are Golson, LD and Haynes.
