  1. Fine songwriter, of the tunes I know were his or his collaboration, ranking high up there is "Heart of The Matter" but the recording that did it justice is the in-concert ones of the re-formed group. The jingly jangly electric guitar on Henley's solo album marred the tune IMO.
  2. Does it keep the mind sharp? Cause sitting for an extensive interview about events so long ago as you're approaching 98 is definitely something.
  3. Here is a snip of a photo Loren shared on FB of Mr. Edgehill during the oral history interview from earlier this summer. He certainly looks younger than 98!
  4. Loren Schoenberg shares on FB: Arthur Edgehill (actually name was Edghill) is known primarily for the great recordings he made int he 1950's and 60's with Kenny Dorham and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis. Just a couple of months ago, he returned to NY from Florida to visit family. We arranged an extensive oral history interview conducted by Kenny Washington that will be shared by the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. His family has asked us to share the details of his memorial service and internment. Clifford Arthur Edghill A Celebration of Life July 21, 1926-September 10, 2024 Services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2024 11 am Family Visitation & Viewing 12 Noon Celebration Service Location: The Gospel Hall (The Brooklyn Church of the Brethern) 515 Classon Ave (Between Putnam and Fulton St) Brooklyn NY The Repast immediately following the service. Everyone is invited to join us for lunch in the fellowship hall of the church. The Interment Monday Sept 23, 2024 9:00 am Washington Crossing National Cemetery 830 Highland Road Newtown, PA 18940 In lieu of flowers you can donate to the National Jazz Museum in Harlem in Arthur Edghill’s name: The National Jazz Museum in Harlem 58 W 129th St, Ground Floor 2203 New York, NY 10027 Should definitely listen to the KD Bohemia recordings - and I will also listen to the four Harold Ashby shows that feature Edgehill on drums in the Phil Schaap Collection at Vandy.
  5. Was that the trio recording or the one with Konitz: https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/collections/2137/collection_resources/135152?u=t&keywords[]=barry&keywords[]=harris
  6. I've been streaming and editing so many of the shows if you want to DM me about what you've been trying to hear.
  7. @adh1907 Direct from the research librarian: Early this morning I used a VPN to assume IP addresses in the UK, Germany, South Africa, and Russia, respectively. I was available to get Aviary access and play files in all locations using Firefox. I’m not sure if your colleague’s issues are unique to them or are connected to the browser they are using … or due to some other issue. According to the company, Aviary is configured to function in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. There is also the possibility that a file was selected that our rights to stream freely are a little murkier (like official recording sessions or the like). Does your colleague any specific records I could investigate? Let me know Anthony if there's anything else I can provide to the librarian.
  8. Actually Lazaro says he is on air until 3 am ... and the start of each hour will go about 20 minutes of Percy France recordings.
  9. Very pleased to hear from @Lazaro Vega that tonight starting at 10 pm, Percy France will be featured in top-of-hour sets until 2 am Saturday on his Blue Lake Radio program. Looking forward to this very much and an added bonus is knowing that when the clock strikes 12 am, as I am turning 59, Percy France will be going out over 100 watt Michigan FM plus the interwebs! Thanks Lazaro! Listen here: https://bluelake.org/radio/listen/
  10. Their system is weird in other ways, I have had messages of incompatibility with my Chrome browser, but a refresh always clears that too.
  11. Not to my knowledge but I will ask the librarian. I sometimes get that message but refeshing the page has never failed to make it playable again.
  12. Johnny Griffin for an hour at Birdland, with @Michael Weiss, Dennis Irwin, Kenny Washington https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/collections/2137/collection_resources/135156?u=t&keywords[]=johnny&keywords[]=griffin The recording is in one channel only with fairly low levels ... so I reiterate my offer for sending out my edit of the recording to whoever DMs me. I think my edit came out exceptionally well and your satisfaction is guaranteed or its free. That's because its already free.
  13. Sounds like Office Space applied to modern technology.
  14. 93 is a good long life, and the voice and acting chops will live on ... RIP.
  15. That must be colorized, and poorly.
  16. I don't think I could pick gnochhi out of a lineup.
  17. Well I said it grew on me but I also have an upper limit on the island rhythm tunes. Fun, but only to a point.
  18. Is it me or are quite a few of these tunes with very strong bassists, whether they solo prominently or not? Anywhooo ... 1. Hard swing as a set-opener and me likey. 3 stars but subject to re-evaluation based on the rest of the selections. 2. More relaxed tempo and I like this one quite a bit. 3.5 stars. 3. Sorry not feeling this. 2 stars, cause I am generous. 4. I'll go with Booby Hutcherson. 3 stars. 5. OK but goes in the bucket with #3. 6. Violin is a nope for me, especially when its not in a swing groove, where I can tolerate in small doses. 7. This one grew on me, but I am longing for something closer to tracks 1 or 2. 8 - 15. Various degrees of this is for someone, But Not For Me. In hindsight, Track 1 and 2 each get an additional half star. Curious about those for sure. Thanks for the tunes!
  19. Well yeah but with Felser and Thom among others, you have more leaning toward avante than just little old me.
  20. 👍👍
  21. I just checked, it is! Looking forward to it even if Felser is too. (green smilie)
  22. Well of course I own #4 but it's been years since I pulled it out. Thanks Ken for the tunes.
  23. I was really hoping this one would be an "unexpected Percy France" appearance, Wild Bill Davis, and within a month of the last known Percy France broadcast in the year that he was diagnosed with cancer. Turns out its Doug Lawrence and it's great: https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/collections/2137/collection_resources/134573
