Yeah Ted we may have even browsed the stacks at Blue Note Records together after I arrived here in 1997. I had the pleasure of interviewing both Bob Weinstock (never transcribed because of the difficulty deciphering his dentistry-impaired speech afterwards) and Eddie Higgins (published in two parts in Cadence) as well as seeing Eddie perform several times. The jazz societies really took a beating after 2006-7, I think because government grants died out, but thankfully South Florida Jazz is still around, and there's a great new performance venue in Delray Beach called the Arts Garage that continues to book excellent jazz and blues acts.

I went to the final concert of the season put on by South Florida Jazz last night, a terrific show put on by the Christian McBride trio. We got a sneak peak of next year's schedule and I wanted to share the news: December 13 - A Sublime Saxophone Summit Benny Golson and Jimmy Heath joined by Javon Jackson. No mention of rhythm section but there is no way I am going to miss a chance to see Heath and Golson, especially at this late date - Benny is 85 now and Heath will turn 88 a few weeks before the show. Here's hoping Bright Moments, MartyJazz and a few others will be able and willing to attend. The concerts are at Nova Southeastern. I'll post when tickets go on sale - it ought to be a sell out, I would think.

A long career in the game, and when you go that long and have funny stories to tell, you end up beloved. But let's be honest, he was far from the greatest manager of men. The man who gave him that nickname in Boston, the Gerbil, was Bill Lee, who Zimmer buried in 1978 despite Lee's 3.46 ERA and the fact he was better than anyone on the staff not named Eckersley or Torrez). So in September when the Yankees made their move and the Red Sox faded, Lee got all of four appearances, all in mop-up duty, because the manager hated him. And he f-ed the team because of it. If Lee is used properly, do the Red Sox even have to play the infamous Bucky Dent game?

Well I for one certainly agree that Clifford deserves more respect ... I think MG has mentioned that Wild Bill Davis recording before but I've never tracked it down. Should resume the hunt. I've heard those New Rose recordings and even thought about programming a track on a past BFT. I've always wondered if its Clifford on vocals or someone else ... I like those recordings though the sound is pretty bad, if not actually "squashed" its recorded at a ridiculously low level.

On the theory that there are no stupid questions, if the chord is F and I put the capo at the second fret, I'm supposed to play an E, right? Cause I am looking at a tab that says capo 1 for a tune in the key of F, and the F chords are listed as E. As always this intermediate guitarist who hasn't had a lesson since he was 11 thanks you in advance.

You lost track of your numbers there MG. Well the rule about tracks coming from albums listeners own certainly came true this month. I have that Braden album and don't honestly recall any negative reactions - especially since I still have it. But its been years since I've listened to Braden. I definitely plan to slip some of his CDs in the next new batch in the car carrier. Thanks for reminding me about him MG. I don't own that Shirley Scott LP and frankly that performance didn't make me want to get it. The Les McCann/Groove Holmes I've had a long time but I'm not sure I would have gotten that track, definitely not a Clifford Scott blowing vehicle ... what is to my eternal shame is missing the Teddy Edwards track, I'm sure that was picked with me in mind and it wasn't all that long ago that I had a bunch of Teddy CDs in the car including that one. Thanks MG!

Thanks. Gives me hope that there are full concerts by this group somewhere waiting to be issued/released.

Thanks GA, and everybody else. It seems maybe part of the problem is that I do tend to buy the replacements in the smallest package when at the very least I should go ahead and get the biggest size, or maybe even check out ebay as a source. Not at all convinced on the dollar shave site - 4 cartridges a month is double what I need, I can usually go two weeks on a new one, and that makes their mid-range price of $6 a month more expensive than the cartridges I am complaining about. Even if my face is better off with the new technology it still ticks me off that something that can't have a unit wholesale cost much more than a penny, if that, can be so expensive.

Great Solos In Blue Note Records History

I'm not gonna bitch too much - Gene Harris got some respect, for once. -
I'd be interested to see if there are cheaper options online - if the supplier is taking advantage of a monopoly then why offer them at a cheaper price anywhere? As for the beard option - early in my marriage I took advantage of a trip my wife took to grow a goatee again. She came home and gave me such a look, I knew I had no choice but to shave. Ever since I've thought about the fact that up until shortly before we met, I'd kept a goatee for about five years running. If I hadn't shaved it she'd have probably not given me a second look.

I did find an old thread about the general topic of shaving but I wanted to ask a specific question: How aggravated do you get to pay $9 or so for a small package of completely overpriced disposable razor cartridges (Mach3 for me) ... and has anyone gone backwards in time to the old-fashioned safety razor like dear old Dad used? Before taking the plunge for another 10 weeks worth of "the best a man can get (at a ridiculous price)", I actually found double-edged safety razors at Walgreens, but what good are they if they don't sell razors that hold them? Any advice? Should I stick with the over-priced razors because the 'advanced shaving system' really is keeping me from ripping my face open even more often than I do already? Feel free to submit your price-related rants here, if you're in the same boat I am.

Very cool. Also cool that its an appraiser who knows a little bit. Or else she was called upon to do some quick research, pre-taping. Yes, they've been on for a long time, going around the country as a free appraisal service. Ever see the sit-com Frazier? There was a very funny episode built around Antiques Roadshow in which Frazier and Niles go from believing that they are descendants of Russian aristocrats to realizing that instead they come from "whores and thieves".

A lot more "misses" than "hits" for me, and none that trigger any useful thoughts, I'm afraid. Now that I've said that I am sure there will be at least one track that MG picked with me in mind, or at least that, at the reveal, I will hang my head like this: .

(RIP) Is Jack Wilson (Atlantic & Blue Note 60s pianist) dead?

I have - someone here sent it along years ago, I'm sure they'll forgive me for not remembering exactly who. It's been a really long time since I listened so it's impossible to say or . -
Very sorry to hear about this Dave.
