  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=eATnDPvzN_s Check out how he plays the blues opposite Gene Harris on a medley of Senor Blues and Splanky!
  2. Excellent sleuthing and nicely done Jim, especially since you poo-pooed the idea that a theme could make it possible for a lot or even most tracks to be ID'd. One participant, and so many tracks knocked off - although I have to double-check because while you got the Al Grey recording right I thought I had went with a different track. Or maybe they renamed it for the CD but you recognized it on its original title? God I hope we don't have to get into that crap again. Anyway I am surprised on one or two you didn't get but I'm sure others will.
  3. Link sent, and thanks. Anyone else??
  4. That Yankee infield is horrific and the bullpen aspires to mediocrity. Under the best circumstances they could slip into the playoffs as a second wildcard. 4th place sounds more like it.
  5. I guess I'll find out soon if my "theme" was obvious or not so obvious. Pretty sure everyone can guess at it though ...
  6. I was going to enroll you regardless Thom. D/L links were PM'd yesterday hopefully everyone got them. One set of discs was mailed a few days ago so that should be arriving shortly. Anyone on the fence, please post if you want to participate.
  7. Well we got the makings of a par-tay but we need more. Thom? Are you out there MG? Jsngry? Anyone? Bueller?
  8. Very cool news but I'm not dropping any coin on LPs that don't even contain all of the available music when its coming out on CD later in the year. For that matter, I am making sure I head to the two remaining record stores in the Fort Lauderdale area the week before Record Store Day. I'm pretty sure the stock will be the same and no crowds to fight through.
  9. Up for more ...
  10. Or at least an update on Jim's haul to date. I'd hope we've covered the current term and aren't far away from the balance of the year ...
  11. Well on the other hand while he continues to work a lot, he can't get everywhere and not everyone has access to Dime or trader networks to avail themselves of the many recordings that are out there. If I didn't have so many recordings of LD playing the same songs in the same order with the same patter in between, I'd line up to buy a Highnote issue of one of his NY engagements. Heck I'd buy it anyway just to say "thanks" ...
  12. Was ready to find a copy of that but fortunately I already own it ... now it will go in the next batch for the CD case in the car.

    Thanks King!
  14. Sorry if this is a little early but I wasn't sure how much web time I'd have in the next few days ... I've done this so many times many or most of you know what to expect: Mainstream, straightahead jazz, with a strong bias toward the blues. And Gene Harris. (I realize that might be considered redundant.) But this one will be a little different, because I've come up with a theme that was conceived to maximize the chance that all tunes might actually be identified. I know you're thinking "whoa, its hard enough to get one or two right, what makes you think someone can run the table?" Well, I don't necessarily think a single person can run the table ... but I've tried to make the theme pretty darn obvious, and once recognized, the theme will narrow the possibilities. I hope. Anyway, just a bit over a single disc worth of music, about 95 minutes altogether. Intrigued? Specify D/L or discs, here or via PM. And HP, I've already got your discs burned .... so I hope you'll join in the fun.

What the heck? Allmusic says this is a 2003 release, and offers no details, and Amazon doesn't even recognize the title. Who is Ben playing with and when, and is this a BN release of stuff that's been out on LP way back when or is it "new"? Color me intrigued, pending more info ...
  16. Thanks Michael.
  17. 2014!
  18. I have no clue but I am damn glad I nabbed a very clean copy of this - side 2 isn't more of the same, its a different tune, a longer track, and Grant gets more room for his solo. Cool beans, as my wife would say.
  19. Yeah bottom line it doesn't distract (that much) and its a great performance and great album worth tracking down.
