I sort of feel the same way, James, in the sense that on the tougher chord changes, my fingers aren't necessarily getting better or quicker so I am not improving as much as I'd like. But I'm still loving it so I keep going for it and/or looking for new tunes to see if there are chords I can handle. And there's no doubt in my mind that playing the guitar is much better for my general happiness than watching the Red Sox.

Yes! With baited breath.

With all due respect, yada yada yada, I know only of the public man, who I found beneath contempt. Hopefully he bought an extra burial plot so that his ego could be properly interred. YMMV.

Things Written On Used LPs You've Picked Up
Dan Gould replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Another source for music ... that's a dangerous thing. -
Well I've just become the guitar-playing fool ... and I'm even playing those barre chords like F#m (wow does that show up in country music), B and G#m. Still not doing so well with the 7th chord pinkie thing though. But just in the last week I've picked up: Brown Eyed Girl Billy Joel, Matter of Trust Jim Croce, I've Got a Name - with the original chord progression, not some simplification

Things Written On Used LPs You've Picked Up

I've had more than a few radio station copies that had little one or two word notations next to tracks like "swinging" or 'ballad' or sometimes, 'really great' or the like. -
I have no idea because that would be one of a multitude of album cover threads I haven't bothered with.

If I were actually saying the Moore recording is the one Tony used, I'd have taken 100% credit.

Either "on the one hand" is implied or clearly it should be OTOH1 and OTOH2 to distinguish between different meanings for the exact same shorthand.
-
message board shorthand for "On the other hand"

Same here. Whats the difference between the older and newer artists? Just guessing, but the difference some hear between bop/hard-bop and neo-bop? The difference between the music when it was fresh and the music when it was recreated by astute students of it? I got into the music just as the neo-boppers came out in force and I had/have no problem listening to both, but ...

Good ear, Mike- you are correct on the song title. I'm sure I've heard this tune before, but it isn't all that familiar to me, despite the fact that I find it very appealing. I've got over 300 GB of music in my iTunes files, and this gem of a tune is not in there. I just searched like crazy for possibilities as to who recorded this version, and I've come up empty. Thought maybe it was indeed Tom Harrell, but I can't find a recording to match this one, with its lovely arrangement (which reminds me of the style of Benny Golson, btw). Looking forward to finding out who this is. I am taking 50% credit on this one. You see, I do know the song, and my reference to "younger guys" clearly encompasses which in addition to the leader, features Terrence Blanchard and Benny Green. I did make clear references to the tune as I know it, I just didn't get the name of the tune or the specific players on this recording, so I will take away 50% of the credit.

1) I don't care what Jay Mariotti managed to do on 9-11. Every other day of his professional life he's proven himself a world-class asshole and deserves every bit of abuse he ever receives. 2) LBJ didn't put his country's interest over his own! He recognized the reality that he couldn't win and bowed out to avoid a huge loss.

Sounds better than 'over-run by douchebags Brooklyn'.

Pete, if you're in Great Britian you better watch it. The libel laws are pretty tough on the accused.

Assuming you mean figuratively jizzing, you don't need to apologize. Well yeah, assuming they don't actually masturbate to superior sound (but its still pretty crude which is why I apologized in advance). If I suggested that Hoffman board members do, would that constitute the bashing Hans is hoping to avoid?
-
Pardon the expression but they must be jizzing all over themselves about it. And, apologies in advance for actually posting that.

so the question is, what kind of system would be required to experience this as its intended? Would I be able to A/B the last Blue Train reissue on the PC (which has very good speakers, BTW) and tell the difference? I've only had three copies of Blue Train - a mid-80s LP pressing, the first CD and the deluxe version with the PC-playable files and the two alternates. I don't know but I might pull the trigger on the really high-def remaster, just to experience it.

In addition to the Henderson songbook title above, the other Snidero release is really nice: Standards Plus

Sandusky Investigation Findings
Dan Gould replied to Dave James's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I don't doubt that Joe knew what was coming down and had absolutely no will to live after his diagnosis. As for the vacating of wins, its the coin of the realm for the NCAA, along with the bowl bans and scholarship reductions. It may be splitting hairs but I do think it would have been more reasonable to date the vacating of the wins to the 2001-2002 shower incident, as its more obvious to me that a cover-up ensued as of that date, rather than the 1998 shower incident. An argument can be made that after the 1998 incident, Paterno and his underlings in the administration could say with a straight face that they did not know of any sexual misconduct by Sandusky. After all, that was the conclusion of the police, that there was no criminality, even if they (the police) had their suspicions. And maybe you could question what Paterno et al knew in the aftermath, when you consider how Sandusky went from heir apparent to relatively young retiree, with no further involvement in college athletics. Its easy to assume it was related but what do we really know? But after what Mcqueery witnessed, no one can deny that they covered up the acts of a pedophile. As for the Paterno family flailing around, I say "go for it". It only does more to destroy Paterno's reputation, what little is left of it. And finally, I don't quite understand how Bobby Bowden isn't number one on the win list, and I keep seeing it listed differently. Even if Grambling is Division 1 (and has it been so for all those years?) its not exactly major college at least as far the athletic side goes. I was so pissed when FSU struggled and Penn State got its act together and Paterno caught and exceeded Bowden's win total, and then of course he kept going after Bobby was forced out. Who'da thunk there'd be such a turn of events?
