I was really hoping to break this news myself but I do have more information on the Grant Green. Like the Hank Mobley release, Grant was not the leader on this club set. The leader is organist Sam Lazar, who recorded, iirc, three times for Argo and then disappeared. Several tracks were identified by listening to Space Flight. In fact, now that I look at the Grant Green discography, this club gig took place some months prior to the recording session. Really looking forward to this and I doubt I'll wait til Christmas to let someone else pay for it. Edit to add: full band is Green, Lazar, Chauncy Williams (drums) and Bob Graf (tenor sax)

Knowing Thom preferences go a little too far 'out' for me I didn't participate but as it turns out he pulled out some great straightahead stuff in the Buck Hill and Billy Mitchell, both of which I've loved for a long time.

Wow, thanks for posting that Jim. I'd love to find a recording of that performance on Dime.

Or I was until this afternoon. Considering how often any team has ever decimated its roster by unloading not one, not two, but three All-Stars in an August waiver deal, I am going to ignore what had been a meticulous commitment to not comment on MLB the rest of the season to offer the following: 1. Adrian Gonzalez is gone, but this fucking piece of shit remains? SERIOUSLY? The only player signed for 2013 that could ever possibly scare an opposing pitcher, and he's sent away, while the asshole who was forced on the GM by ownership, ran Youkilis out of town, and makes everything about him instead of the team by running his mouth stays? 2. Beckett is gone ... fine and dandy I was sick of him myself. But wave bye bye to Ortiz too. Why would he come back now? The line up is a fucking joke and will be even more so after his departure. 3. I hear that now, with so much money off the books for 2013, the Sox have the money to sign Ellsbury. First of all, what the fuck are people smoking? Ellsbury will go to free agency as every Boras client does. And he will extract the absolute maximum he can for his client. And anyway, why the fuck would you want to sign him for big bucks? One great year, sandwiched by two awful years derailed by injuries. Which one is the real Ellsbury? Let some other fucking idiot owner pay the money to find out! 4. Or, how about throwing a shitload of money at Hamilton? Yeah commit to a former addict with an injury history for a huge contract that starts in his age 32 season. Isn't that the whole fucking reason they decimated the roster in the first place? 5. It appears they remain committed to the piece of shit pictured above for the rest of his contract and given that the roster will be a fucking joke through 2013, I say this: See you in the MLB 2014 Season thread. I'm done.

Wow, completely opposite to my reaction. I read this in a matter of days while I was visiting my Mom in June. I didn't like the racial ID system (but got used to it pretty quickly) or the dropping of "the" before proper nouns (more annoying) but never felt that the writing was otherwise terrible or in anyway difficult to follow. Jeff could you favor me with a quote or two that you think epitomizes this problem you had?

is this the way to market 'jazz'?
Dan Gould replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Maybe we can test these assertions by each of us finding a friend or two who doesn't like jazz, ask them why they don't, and then tell them that the music is simple, so why can't they follow it? Or simply ask them, 'do you think jazz is easy to follow or hard to follow?" I'm pretty sure what the answers would be. -

Indeed. -

That's about the most ridiculous statement you've ever made. Jazz has two problems: Its image as something "old" people like, and the fact that the music is not simple and easy to follow the way the 60-70 years of pop music that followed jazz' commercial heyday is simple and easy to follow. -
I'd be careful SS1, if you're going for "gay". You won't endear yourself to your left-wing friends and I'm fairly sure it would constitute a personal attack, if you're using it in a deragatory manner. "Deragatory" is a big word, you may need to look it up.

Unless she's independently wealthy I don't think there's any way she doesn't get spousal support, and with the money he's made, its going to be a pretty good amount to reflect "the manner to which she's grown accustomed."

My dog doesn't like Sun Ra or Sunny Ade

I have no idea if pugs can be trained or not but this isn't really training. Its just conditioning the treat with the music. I have to believe that the dog would in fact show up for his treat after a week or two. Unless of course Pavlov never tried his theory on pugs. -
I've been looking for one last Jimmy McCracklin Imperial LP, I Just Gotta Know. Missed out on a copy from Da Bastards when I didn't pull the trigger fast enough, then I lost out on a very nice copy which I only succeeded in bidding up over $50. So last week I snagged it for $1.25. Its only a "G" cover but that doesn't matter much to me, if the vinyl is VG+ as advertised, that's a "great find".

Its $30+ for a Nook copy ... still too much. The only way I'll get this is if I get a $50 B&N gift card and I'm willing to blow 60% of it on one book. Yeah, when the price will drop to $24.95. Or more likely you'll never see a paperback edition because the hard copy sales won't be sufficient to make it worthwhile.

I sort of feel the same way, James, in the sense that on the tougher chord changes, my fingers aren't necessarily getting better or quicker so I am not improving as much as I'd like. But I'm still loving it so I keep going for it and/or looking for new tunes to see if there are chords I can handle. And there's no doubt in my mind that playing the guitar is much better for my general happiness than watching the Red Sox.
