  1. Post-Secondary degrees aren't what they used to be. Or alternatively, Aric managed to get a degree without ever passing basic reading comprehension.
  2. Saving rent + employee costs can't be inconsequential. And either this is a last gasp attempt to stay alive or else it is a worthwhile change. And while shipping costs might increase marginally, I don't see the difference between a "committed jazz people" and your average warehouse employee packaging a sale and shipping it. This sounds a lot like the old CD Baby spiel about parading your ordered CD on a velvet pillow before lovingly placing it in the mailer. I do believe though that Mosaic will fold sooner than anyone wants to see it happen. If anything I think they should revisit the "never to be available again" promise. They might rebuild their capital reserves if they could revisit the most popular sets of the past. It would hurt people who think of Mosaic sets as an investment but f-k them.
  3. I think I've seen the movie enough that I've run out of things to notice, but one thing that did surprise me last night was the scene with the naked chest flashing across the scene. Not only was I surprised that TCM would run that but I had seen the edited version (the camera pans across jiggling boobs in the row of seats) so many times I had completely forgotten about the scene in the original. Also nice to see "the shit is really going to hit the fan" in its unedited glory.
  4. Can't hear it at 44 and I am pretty certain I wouldn't have heard it at 14 either.
  5. Obviously the truth is difficult to handle, which is why you've been reduced to yet another non sequitur. I think we're done.
  6. In all seriousness, MG, I would love to know what is to the left of communist/socialist. If its supposed to create the worker's paradise, well what can be made more perfect than paradise? And how would you go about it?
  7. I remember reading or seeing somewhere that there was another, direct inspiration on Abrams/Zucker than the Airport movies, but there was no way I was staying up that late to see this film. But I mentioned it to my wife and we were wondering whether there would be a Lloyd Bridges character saying "looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking/drinking." Pretty funny, maybe they'll run it again at an hour that I might keep my eyes open.
  8. This is really hysterical. What was a discussion of whether or not a company that offers a free service should honestly provide such a service in a usable way or simply stop claiming that they offer a free service at all has turned into "Oh, you're just a guy stealing stuff and you think its your right to get it completely free." That's a great way of changing the subject after you've been slammed from several directions for being asinine in defending the indefensible. Good job! Since you've bought it up, do you somehow think you are pure as the driven snow because you "at least pay some cash while ripping people off"? Let's take a look at Rapidshare's business model: Take as much money as possible from suckers who are willing to pay for the privilege of downloading copyrighted files of one type or another, especially the ones that these downloads are so important, they want to maximize their convenience by getting instant downloading, faster download speeds, and no download restrictions. Rapidshare is profiting from theft, and you are proud that you pay them for the privilege? Furthermore, we can also conclude that you are a "typical" Rapidshare user, downloading copyrighted material with the rest of us, but you are so dedicated to that act that you pay Rapidshare to maximize your personal convenience while stealing from copyright holders. Pot, meet kettle. This is even more hysterical than your swerve. And here's my full disclosure: I only download the kind of copyrighted works that have soundtracks that involve pizza deliverymen and start "bank chink a wow wow". Believe me vintage smut is a helluva lot harder to find than OOP Blue Notes. And the Japanese have their own reissue programs.
  9. So, we can therefore conclude that, since at some point you became a paying customer, it is you who A. was delusional B. found himself lured into Rapdishare's web of deceit. And, like a victim of the Stockholm Syndrome, or maybe a long-term cult member, you can't brook any criticism of your group. Thanks a lot, reading first really did help me understand it all.
  10. With a 10 MB email attachment limit, its easy to need a file-sharing service for non-copyrighted material. And the best thing would be a free service that actually functions when you need it.
  11. We haven't said anything about the types of files that are being downloaded, only the performance of the difference sites that offer the service.
  12. I have literally spent hours continuously resubmitting at their two minute interval and never gotten through, and this has happened from 9 AM well into the evening hours. There is no time in the past several months I have found that Rapidshare is "sizzling". On the other hand, Megaupload has never once failed to deliver a download link every single time I have gone there, morning, noon or night. So which one can be reasonably said to "suck" and which one should be preferred?
  13. But how does it get around the "free user download slots" to "free users trying to download at any one time" ratio of 1:10000?
  14. 42, but I am really surprised such a well-regarded research group would put together such a stupid serious of questions. Anyone with no tats, no piercings, no video games (in my entire life, after a brief time playing pong on an Atari player) and who reads a newspaper every day isn't close to a "Millenial".
  15. You used both Baby Face tracks - cool! I don't know how I am going to be able to swing this set but I really really really want to get it.
  16. Fair enough, although I would add this (note the smiley): Anyone expecting free service from an outfit like Rapidshare either has a screw loose or is seriously delusional. Cheers! Obviously you are unaware that up until recently - maybe 3 months ago - the free service was indeed FREE and CONSISTENT and USEFUL to users who have no reason to pay for the service due to infrequent use. You waited longer to download, you had download limitations, and the downloads took longer. BUT THE SERVICE WAS PROVIDED. Now, one can wait hours to get access to a free slot. Perhaps your last comment should be amended to "anyone who doesn't know how Rapidshare has attempted to force free users to pay shouldn't make delusional comments about how the service works for those who don't wish to pay." And why should Rapidshare be any different from megaupload when megaupload offers a free level of service that consistently delivers what is promised? Rapidshare SUCKS DONKEY DICKS and that is no delusion.
  17. OK let me change that to
  18. Like MG, I haven't encountered corrupted files but getting a "slot" as a free user is next to impossible. I really recommend megaupload which has a much higher maximum upload, faster downloads and I've never failed to start a download right away. Rapidshare sucks.
  19. Well, something new happened last night. All four of us were downstairs, my wife and I were watching TV while she played on her laptop. I was sitting opposite her which gives me a view of the hallway and bottom of the staircase. As I turned back toward the TV I heard footsteps go up the stairs and turned that way thinking "Coltrane never goes upstairs alone when we're all together down here." Which is when I saw that Coltrane was standing stock-still at the bottom of the stairs, staring at the bottom of the staircase (no other reaction, no submission or anything like that, but it was clear he heard the sound too). I said to my wife "did you hear that" and she said "why did Coltrane go upstairs" at which point I told her he was standing right there and those footsteps weren't his. I don't know what to think of this - the sound was very recognizable as that of footsteps, the sound of a weight pressing down and then leaving the steps, and it went sequentially up the stairs, about six times. Could the house have made the noise? I guess its possible but we've never heard such noises before and in fact, the construction of the house is not conducive to transmitting footsteps too well. If we were plagued by creaking noises or something I'd be more likely to blame the house. These were f-ing footsteps up the stairs. And I don't think Fairies are that heavy.
  20. I sure hope Alfred was better skilled with the razor blade than Bock was. So how much music was lopped off?
  21. LET THE GAMES BEGIN! Yeah, its only spring training but its still baseball and its still on TV, so this is a pretty good day in the grand scheme of things. But let no Yankee fan complain about how MLB treats their team - MLB Network is showing four straight MFY games. I mean, WTF? Every day for four straight days, a Yankee spring training game is being shown. Four out of nine broadcasts include the Yankees. On the other hand, I can see where certain other fans might just go right on hating both the Yanks and Red Sox, because those two are on the spring training broadcast schedule ahead of any other team, and its not even close.
  22. Or, its far more likely that a lot of people are gossips, and this is the way gossip is delivered - with expert opinion ladled on top - in the modern world. Need I mention that English isn't the language with a single word that means "pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others"?
