  1. Looks like a Russian Blue - growing up we had two of them (not at the same time). First one was adopted as an adult with the name "Blue" who was very stand-offish but became an incredible, cuddly companion, he even grew to not only tolerate but to give little kisses to Chauncey, our 80 pound Irish Setter. After Blue died, Mom wanted another cat (everyone else was in college or living on their own) and found another Russian Blue (she had a white spot in the middle of the chest just like this one). Natasha seemed like a good name but she didn't turn out to be a very nice cat, barely tolerated Mom and hated everyone else.
  2. Thanks for the heads up, Aric. Thanks to my LP sales, I can pull the trigger on this one - should be fun to hear almost 15 minutes of interview, even if I am sure the music isn't anything I haven't heard. In fact it kind of matches my Four Sounds demo 78 for rarity (well, not quite) but hey - I am the Gene Harris Fanatic and aside from Gene's widow, this thing is meant for me.

  4. Disappointed to read the word "boring" next to Eric Alexander's....i'm trying to save some money to buy the Venus Ballads albums : is there anyone else who would have an opinion about them? Thanks They don't have sarcasm in Brussels? Kevin is most assuredly a fan of Eric Alexander, and of Venus vinyl.

  7. Mazel Tov! And I hope you enjoy my modest gift. Feel free to use some of that wedding cash on the rest of my list (I know you planned to anyway ).
  8. First, here is a question: Is there interest in OJC vinyl at $3 a pop? Coltrane/Dex/Red Garland would constitute the majority of titles, I think. I've organized those into the last, unpicked shelf and wasn't sure if there's enough interest but I guess I won't know until I put them out there so .... Another 100 or so to go coming tonight (and probably tomorrow) in the meantime, here are the last of the "nicer/rarer" offerings for which my minimum bid is $6 and in most cases I'm hoping for more. Please remember to submit a bid if you PM! ***************************************** SONNY STITT, THE BUBBA'S SESSIONS (ATLAS JAPAN) VG+ (slight browning on the back, no other flaw) / NM Lockjaw/Sweets and Eddie Higgins in the group COUNT BASIE STORY (ROULETTE) Box set with a bust of Basie on top of a piano - its the Atomic group playing the 30s tunes. 9. I like this shot of B.B., Albert and Bobby Bland More from the Times slide show http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2010/03/24/arts/20100325-MARSHALL_index.html
  10. Would Nina Simone count? I know next to nothing of her music but very recently I saw a review in the NYT of a new biography, and she apparently berated her audience mercilessly (and sometimes stormed off in the middle of the show) and sunk into mental illness from around the 70s to the end of her life. So how did people react to her stage performances when they happened? Did she lose her audience? One big difference is that this great big wide interweb didn't exist to accelerate the dissemination about her attitude on stage, so knowledge about it might not have been very widespread. My guess is that a lot of people would swear off going to see her, and another proportion would excuse it, probably out of white guilt. But another element is the fact that tickets to see her were a lot cheaper, even in constant dollars, than tickets to see Jarrett. What Tony is missing is the fact that it doesn't have to be "jealousy" over his concert grosses that motivates the animus. Instead it just might be a belief that people have paid a boatload of money and deserve to have the artist "play the damn piano".
  11. Here are the group of nicer pieces - nicer meaning that I anticipate $6 or more on each of them. Buy more and the price may drop to $6 a piece for all that you get but please make specific offers on these: (**** indicates LPs I have received an offer on, but I am giving people a chance to "bid" through the weekend.) 13. Ray Brown/Gene Harris/Jeff Hamilton, "Summertime" - the live recording issued on BAM BAM BAM but most especially their performance at the Blue Note in 1988 or 89 when I saw them. It was the drive and excitement captured on the CD but raised to heights I didn't think existed. Totally brought the house down - and then Ray Brown brought the house down again when he said "you keep playing that piano like that, its gonna follow you home." I think its safe to say that was the moment I became the Gene Harris Fanatic.

  15. Austin Jackson is knocking the cover off the ball? Well, so did Gritty Gutty Gardner last March. And what did he do when the minor leaguers went where they belonged and the major leaguers went north? Hit about .220 for a month and lost the starting job to Melky. The loss of Damon will hurt, without a doubt, but it will be at least a year before we know if trading Austin Jackson was a mistake or not. Given his performance in the minors, Detroit is really rushing things if they actually use him as a starter, regardless of how he does in March, when pitchers are just getting into the swing of things, and lots of at-bats come against guys who won't sniff the majors for a long time, if ever.
  16. So unfortunately for me, they have no idea that a deal like that would hook me.
  17. EDIT: I am adding new batches below if anyone comes to this thread and assumes the first listing is everything. **************** From my attempt last year to raise some cash from my LPs I still have left 18 new LP mailers and its time to sell whatever it takes to get rid of those boxes. Unfortunately, there isn't much left that's really special so I do not expect much to be paid for any of these. So here is the deal: I want to maximize the number of LPs sent in each box. If I get an offer for one LP and someone else is interested in four, including that one LP, I am going to accept the latter offer. I'll consider single LP requests if the price is right - like on the nicer/rare LPs I will list soon. This first batch - posted March 23 - is a first group of the LPs I think of as $3-$4-$5 records and I am going to simply solicit offers on them. Obviously the more you order, the more open I will be on pricing. I will continue to grade what I've pulled out and post more until I am through, including what I think of as the nicer LPs that are left. If offers are accepted, I will hold the LPs until all LPs have been listed, if requested. Since the LP boxes were bought specifically for this sale process, I am going to charge my cost, $2, for each box that is needed to ship an order (these boxes have the perforated edges to allow for a deeper box, I think up to 2 inches). Grades are cover/vinyl. Paypal/check/money order. Shipping at cost anywhere. Thanks for looking. 18. Paps, did you buy Extra Innings last year? I'm wondering if they are targeting people who showed interest before - or maybe you had it and dropped it in 2009 so they think they can entice you to buy it again, by using it as the hook to make you switch packages.
  19. Is it Steve's, Alfred's or Sonny's?
  20. I'd say 90% of the bashing is based on Jarrett's attitude toward his audience, not his own noisy accompaniment to his playing. And I don't believe that Bud ever told people to "shut the hell up or I won't play anymore." But if it takes Jarrett croaking to get people to tolerate him better, then hey, sometimes you just gotta suck it up and deal.
  21. Paps, Interesting promotion they are doing - you only pay for Extra Innings but you get your new package for free. The three months @ 58 for baseball is a small discount from their current price of 4 payments of $50 but when you get the rest of the channels free its pretty sweet. I need to remember about this next year to see if we can get such a deal. The promotion we got drops our monthly price to about $35 for however long it lasts so I am not complaining. For 2010, I am hoping to scrape together $100 for MLB.TV.
  22. I take is that is Dish TV or Dish Network? A year or so ago we switched from DirecTV to Comcast cable because we were dropping BellSouth landline phone and the combination of Comcast Cable + Cable DSL was a great deal. Plus, I kind of liked the idea of getting away from the satellite tv thing because I found it really sensitive to rainfall. So, first the Comcast promotion ends and then they unilaterally change the channels that are in the package we had and that was the final straw. We went back to DirecTV, which offered a $30 rebate each month for six months or something like that but there wasn't any mention of any possible Extra Innings package at all. I'd have happily taken that and not gotten the three months of Showtime + whatever. _________________________________________ Matthew - what is it that Milton Bradley has done or said that has made you sick of him already? I figured there must be something on the wire or ESPN but I couldn't find anything.
  23. I don't think any of this has anything to do with jealousy or a desire to pull down someone who has "made it". Sure there are some who can't fathom the concert fees he gets, but that's personal opinion about him as an artist. The vast majority of the attitude on display here is simply a reaction to egoism run severely amok. Its wrong for people who give him a share of their hard-earned money to expect some respect or gratitude from the Master Artist, rather than being berated, or in the extreme, denied any performance at all? And if he's got mental health problems than maybe he needs to just shut it down instead of exposing his psychosis to paying customers.
  24. I think the smart thing is to do similar research - ignoring the sellers that come up with $500 prices - and make a reasonable offer for the OOP items to the board, if you want to sell on the board and not pursue the last Lira as it were.
