A New Way to Buy Cds Without the Missus Knowing
Dan Gould replied to robviti's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I don't need to hide purchases, but on the other hand, I hate loose change and never been one to fill coin jars with it. I just shove it in my pocket and use as much as I can next time I buy something. But the idea of taking loose change and eventually turning it into a large Amazon order is definitely appealing. -
Most popular artists based on what you see in the used record bins.

That "Yakity Sax" dude sold an awful lot, too. -
Which is why I am hoping and praying that when push comes to shove, Manny will exercise his 10-5 veto rights and stay where he is. Theo would have to be a complete idiot to believe that Drew will provide any protection at all for Papi.

I came across an obituary of Witherspoon and noticed this: So I looked at the bios on AMG and found no such reference in either one. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I am guessing that the author, one Michael James, didn't know that McDuff's nickname was "Brother" and "Jimmy Witherspoon with Brother Jack McDuff" became "in 1968 Recorded "The Blues is Now" with his brother, organist Jack McDuff." That's pretty damn pathetic. And also kinda funny.

I'm with you, Brad, but the fact is there are many reasons: The contract was regarded as a financial albatross (less so now that only two guaranteed years remain; plus this year's contracts make it seem like Manny's 20 mil a year (3 mil deferred) look downright economical). Manny has kept asking for a trade, over and over and over and over again. He's been asking out ever since he arrived. He hates the intrusive fans and media, which is why he's always wanted to go to LA. Manny's lack of all-out effort over 162 games - the ever popular "Manny being Manny"
-
Looks like Manny really is on the way out. According to ESPN: If they're going to let Manny go for prospects, they damn well better be planning to flip those for Andruw Jones, because otherwise there will be one gigantic hole in the lineup, Papi will, as the article says, walk 200 times, and the pitching will have to be extraordinary to make up for the decline in offense.

The Globe says they're talking about a three-way trade - I don't think the Giants have much to offer, either. And frankly, is trading for a guy who turns 35 in May the way to get "younger and more athletic"?
-
Deserved because of how poorly the Bears played, yes. But I disagree about how "questionable" the calls were. 99.9% of the difference today was the play of the QBs. The Pats weren't better; Brady was.
-
That's a lot better than trying to master a track while hearing a non-existent high-pitched tone.
-
And the difference was the QBs. One thing I don't understand is why the Bears went for a FG trailing by 7 that late in the game. Three points still means you have to score a TD next time. They should have gone for it, even if it was 4th and long. At minimum, you put the Pats deep in their territory, instead of setting up for a nice return near the 30. Regardless though, it was the QBs who made the difference and while I do believe that the Bears are the class of the Conference and the League, I have serious doubts about whether Rex Grossman can take them all the way. Too many poorly thrown balls too often.

Well, since its coming from a re-seller, the boot people ain't gettin my money. I still wonder who else is on it.
-
Does anyone have any info on Philly Joe's 'Round Midnight on the Lotus label? AMG just says "Excellent Italian set with sorely neglected Dizzy Reece on trumpet." Does anyone know who else is on the record, and is anyone familiar with it? Thanks!

What? If I disagree with the definition, I'm not allowed to mention it?

Drove his truck into a concrete barrier earlier this year. Cocaine was in his system.

What music do/did your parents listen to?
Dan Gould replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Miscellaneous Music
My parents had Sinatra, Benny Goodwin and Ella Fitzgerald records, though they really didn't listen all that often. The Ella and Louis records were most critical to me, because they were familiar to me when I heard them again in my early 20s. At that point I was looking for something new to listen to, growing bored with late 80s radio, oldies, classic rock, and decided to give jazz a chance. -
This doesn't really make sense to me. To my mind, "outlived" means "each born within a few years of each other, and one is dead." Not, "I'm 41 and this person died thirty years ago at 40, so I 'outlived' them." I "outlived" John Lennon when I was 14, not when I turned 40.

Glad to see the generally strong reviews here. Last Christmas, we received a gift card to a really cool theater in Boca Raton - extra large screen, extra large "love seats" (you can raise the arm to get cozy with your companion) and free popcorn - but we've never used it. So I suggested that this Bond film would be the best choice to finally use the damn card.
-
Glad it worked. I didn't talk about where the wav files would end up because in my setup, "output directory" defaults to the same location as "input directory".

There's a three page article in the Globe about how the Red Sox are "quietly" but "aggressively" pursuing Drew. Also mentions that when he actually plays, he's a superior performer, ranking in the top 11, right alongside A-Rod, in OPS over the last three years. But then it talks about his "attitude" and his relationship with teammates, and this really stands out: I just can't understand why Theo doesn't see the impending disaster in courting a guy who doesn't exhibit any passion, doesn't like pressure or intense media scrutiny, and doesn't care what the fans think. And he wants to replace Trot Nixon with this clown? Nixon might not have the same tools, but he dealt with the lunacy of the clubhouse/press and left it all out on the field, where fans loved him. And to top it off, it leaves Wily Mo without a job.

Michael Richards Meltdown
Dan Gould replied to Randy Twizzle's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Ise sorry not to ask first, boss, before opening my mouf. I'll just jes shuffle on down the road now and let y'all enjoy your talk about race without meddlin' from the ignorant colored folk. Typical bullshit reply when someone has simply noted that over and over again you only come out when "racism" is at issue. You've got nothing else to say here, ever. So fucking what? Who named you the forum police? You haven't heard? I'm widely regarded as the forum police. And the fact is, Fuckwad in New Jersey, I participate in a wide variety of threads, and contribute regularly. I don't come by twice a year to tell you about race relations. -
Brownie's right. He was one of those unheralded musicians who always delivered. RIP.

All the Jay McShann and Al Grey Chiaruscuro's are excellent. So is the Nat Adderley and Red Holloway.

I hadn't been aware of the Spoon. Definitely something to go for sometime in 2007.

Michael Richards Meltdown

What's more important is it that silly to think of him "suffering" over this. Unless he's been extremely stupid with his Seinfeld earnings, he has no need to work whatsoever, and with the continuing residual income from both syndication and DVD sales, even if he's been stupid financially, he's got a guaranteed revenue stream well in excess of any likely financial need. And as much as people here are saying how they 'can't' watch Seinfeld anymore, after a month or two, there won't be any impact at all on the show's ratings in syndication or on DVD sales.
