Gene Harris Hank Mobley B.B. King Lowell Fulson As usual, the last choice is hardest ... but I'll say Horace Silver Each of my choices aside from Mobley have or had long recording careers so that maximizes the variety of sidemen/contexts. And in the case of Fulson, he made consistently enjoyable recordings through his entire career, never really coasting, as B.B. might be accused of.

The one time I got out of that fee was in the aftermath of Wilma last year. Tried to do it after that and they wouldn't have none of it.

Can't you make an electronic payment for the minimum over the weekend? I don't do my banking online. I could conceivably call them next week if I don't think the check will make it in time, and pay up the wazoo for the pleasure of making a payment over the phone.

Thus Albert King's "Let's Have a Natural Ball"? How does "natural" modify "party"?

All I know is it sucks because I had put off paying some bills and now its really going to be cutting it close. Let me tell ya, Citibank doesn't mess around when it comes to on-time payment and the penalties that occur in its absence.

Well obviously I bolded the losers. Do you think a Seminole would pick against his team? -
Zito chooses San Francisco for 18 mil a year for seven years, with an option year I have to wonder whether the Yankees move RJ now that the reported object of interest is off the market. I think this hurts the Mets more than anyone, as there are few free agent pitchers on the horizon after Zambrano, and he's likely to stay with the Cubs. Now the Mets miss a significant chance to get younger, and have to rely on their aged and/or injured starters for another year. Moving to the NL is a very smart move for Zito. They don't know him, and the thinner lineups will inflate his numbers dramatically. What's strange is going somewhere that has serious roster issues with Bonds still dominating the payroll and the team not getting signficantly younger (Zito aside) as was their stated goal. If Zito hopes to win a championship, the Giant's management better get on the stick and get younger and better soon. Otherwise, the Mets would be a better choice and the Yankees number 2. But obviously Zito's Spawn of Satan agent insisted that money trumps everything else, and no one else was going near 18 million a year, and for seven years, possibly eight (not sure if the option is a vesting one or a plain old team option)! I am sure that San Fran will live to regret this move. Yes, Zito has been extremely durable, but anyone should know that its not a matter of if but when pitchers break down. And Matt Clement never missed a start in seven years and what happened to him? Not one, not two, but three major surgical repairs in a single "exploratory" surgery after last season. Zito may be healthy now but counting on him staying that way for seven or eight years is a sucker bet. Back to the Yanks: If they trade the Unit now, where does that leave them? Wang, Moose, Pettite, Pavano, Igawa with maybe Scott Proctor plus several good prospects to back them up? That puts two highly questionable starters in the rotation, and Pettite carries his own question marks coming off of injuries and being several years older than the last time he pitched in the AL. And I don't think its a good plan to force the youngsters in ahead of schedule. They need to be eased in slowly. I think that the Yanks have to rethink RJ or else be prepared to knock everyone else's offer out of the park on the Rocket.

Disagree, I think. While I often don't "get" his posts, and often don't agree with them when I do get them, I find them passionate, thought out, and worth reading. To quote Clem himself, when I read his postings, I come away with "equal degrees of admiration and bafflement". And I did appreciate that he was able to get through two long posts this morning without once using the f*&% bomb! As they say, mileage varies, but the final straws are: his outrageous attack on Lon a day or two ago that ridiculously ignorant "list"

It got me - and it took 2 weeks to recover from it. The worst bit was all the joint pains.. It jumped from Texas to the UK?

And the title you chose for your review perfectly sums up how so many of us feel about you: A Charmingly Goofy Treat

I came across a Phil Woods-Brian Lynch CD just out this year on the new Kind of Blue label but rather than grabbing it I decided to come home and check Amazon. And what do I find? A very informative and highly descriptive review by who I presume is our own John Tapscott. Check out John's Amazon reviews. Does anyone else actively contribute reviews on that site? The only time I was moved to write a review was after seing Jennifer Love Hewitt in Confessions of a Sociopathic Social Climber.

One thing is for sure: the movie was not a major box office success when it was released. -
Dan, inquiring minds want to know what CDs and DVDs are headed back to amazon and Borders! OK, but first I'll have to cop to the fact that some of the music was in fact blues or jazz but just didn't appeal sufficiently to keep. Jimmy Witherspoon, Blue Spoon This one was a tough decision but what I've heard about the second date on the CD made me leery, even if Golson did do the arrangements. A three disc blues compilation that repeated too much music I already have plus one disc was current stars I'm not fond enough of. Hunt for Red October and Sunset Boulevard - one is a great film, one is decent enough, but I traded them in for an oral history of the blues DVD and the Monk Jazz Icons disc, so that's a much better pair. A book of baseball trivia. On this one, I acted extra appreciative but I honestly can't believe my in-laws would buy such a thing. Yeah, I love baseball. But I'm not The Schwaab, and I stopped being fascinated by trivia books somewhere around the time that I started being fascinated by girls.

Books: Revolutionary Characters, by an author whose name escapes me - its a series of biographical essays of various Founding Fathers. I bought it for my brother and looking through it decided to put it on my own list. The Lorraine Gordon -VV memoirs Little Green Men, by Christopher Buckley. If its half as funny as That Ain't No Way To Treat a First Lady, should be lots of fun. DVDs: All three volumes in the American Folk Blues Festival series The Messengers and Basie Jazz Icon concerts a three disc Montreux blues DVD set, Santana Presents. I'm not a fan of his, but the basic idea is full concerts by Buddy Guy, Gatemouth Brown and one other guy, with Santana joining for the last couple of songs in each set. Should be good CDs: Kevin McKendree, who plays a rolling blues piano for Delbert McClinton, has two self-produced CDs my wife got from his website. Should be good. Magic Sam, Sweet Home Chicago Junior Wells, Hoodoo Man Blues Albert King, Live Wire/Blues Power, Wednesday Night in San Francisco, Thursday Night in San Francisco T-Bone Walker, T-Bone Blues Little Walter, The Blues World Of the last Steve Davis Criss Cross CD, the one with Hargrove and Bernstein in the misc. category: couple of shirts Terry cloth robe Starbucks sampler There were also a number of CDs, DVDs and one book that didn't meet minimum requirements (they weren't blues or jazz) so they'll go back to Amazon or Borders this week.

Hey, I ain't seen you make a pick. Looks like its just me and my lonesome, so as long as one of mine is right, I win. -
I was speechless when my wife told me the news, and still am.

It is indeed a very dark film and key to its success is Stewart in conveying his growing anger at having his dreams shunted aside up through the events of the final reel, in which his performance stands with any he ever gave. Twizzle's point is well taken, though I have to say that what seems a little odd is that Pottersville has more strip joints per capita than any other small upstate NY town in history. Anyone else ever notice that the two buddies names are Bert and Ernie? I always wondered if there was a connection .... -
