Well, the way I was taught (admittedly I was a student for only a brief time) by the Meteorology Department of Florida State was in terms of percent of a geographical region. Maybe definitions have changed since the mid 80s.

No, because there is no guarantee that rain will fall. We're talking about statistical probability, not guarantees. It will not "definitely" rain somewhere. The coverage of potential rain will be 20%. Yes there can be no rain in the given time frame, because we are talking about probability NOT absolutes. Here's another way of putting it: Under the present atmospheric conditions, it is likely that no more than 20% of the coverage area will see rainfall. In other words, it is probably that your area will not see rain, but if it does, don't say we didn't tell you so. If you haven't figured it out by now, rainfall probabilities are not an exact science, or have you never had a picnic ruined by rain?

20% rain chance means that 20% of the geographic area under consideration will see rain in a given time period. It is not cumulative.

Thanks. So it looks like "Red Shirt" made it to both the BN reissue and the Fresh Sound thing (which is what I have) but it looks like the Harold Land thing is an orphan that's never been reissued?

Tom, did you see this for sale, or did you just see a reference to it? I've been trying to track down a copy but haven't had any luck. Closest I came was with Cadence, but it went out of stock and they've never managed to restock it, so I cancelled the back order. If you saw it for sale, please grab it or let me know where its available! AMG gives it a good review, I see no reason why it shouldn't be good.

Stumbled across this: Davis Jackie & Harold Land Blowin' The Blues/Red Shirt 7" Pacific Jazz X303 Apparently Teddy Edwards is on the B-Side, but I can't find this title on his two PJ albums, and I don't know where the A-Side might have come from either. So the question is, would these be tunes recorded exclusively for the singles market or would these actually be edited versions of album tracks? As always, thanks in advance!

And one more thing: One doesn't "learn from our mistakes" in baseball. You sound like that fucking dumb-ass would-be football coach, Steinbrenner. Will you learn from your mistakes and catch the foul pop? No .. thems the breaks of the game. Will you learn from your mistakes and not put pitches in Manny's or Ortiz' wheelhouse? Pitchers have tried to do that for years. They just aren't that successful at it for too long. But it has nothing to do with "learning from our mistakes".

You didn't kick ANY major ass this weekend, and you didn't have to face Schilling in the rotation. Talk about me getting cocky?? Go fuck yourself. Who said you'd win three of four this weekend? Who got lucky to pull out game four to salvage a split? There's a fucking reason why you're barely over .500 against teams that are over .500 themselves.

Well, now that you've given me some copy to work with, I'll give it a shot. Would you like "Pissed Off Zombie in a Hurry" Mr. Producer, or maybe the slightly snarky guy on the Geico spot?

Thanks for another interesting trip. Always enlightening to see from your perspective what makes certain tracks and the connections between them. Couple of observations: Never would have figured out it was Duke singing. Is the rest of that album as, ahem, "Intimate"? On the Rollins track, isn't he liberally "borrowing" from one of those bop anthems at the start? That's why I said it was so familiar, even though it wasn't "complete". Was the voiceover hint aimed at me? Sorry, I know my limitations ...

Don't take it personally, Martin, when the summer doldrums and vacationing O-people cut down on the number of participants. Maybe you shouldn't have been so quick to swap turns!

Thanks - those were the two BNs I skipped, figuring it wasn't on them.

I found a compilation CD titled "Dinner Jazz" which has a Three Sounds recorded but I can't figure out if this is something not previously issued or what. For the life of me I can't find it, though I've only looked at the BN recordings. But judging from the track list of the entire CD, it seems to be Capital-related: Can anyone figure out where this tune might have come from? Given the rest of the tracks, it seems highly unlikely that its from his 70s disco-funk era, but I'm at a loss as to where this tune came from. Thanks!

I have to admit Dan, I'm kinda worried about the next month or so in the CWS schedule. The first half, we played lots of Central and West teams, who are, for the most part, weaksauce all the way. Now we've got Boston twice, the Yanks twice and Minnesota (I'm hitting games for that series, and probably the Indians as well). Considering how poorly we've done against Oakland and some other formidable teams, I am shaking in my boots a hair. However, after losing two to the Tigers (!), I think the boys will be pumped to do some damage this weekend. We'll see how it all turns out. ← And now we know: four game split, and the pitcher you were ready to concede would be a loser saved you from losing the series. Might be interesting come October, because if the wild card comes out of the East and the White Sox do indeed have the best record in the league, it will be the White Sox hosting the wild card team. I figure, as long as Schilling is in the rotation and the back end of the bullpen is set, we'll do OK.

That's the one I use.

Very schizoid for me. Sometimes I think she's OK but most of the time I think she's the skank that other skanks look down on.

Garters are some mean fuckers. Can't count how many times I've been bitten while trying to catch them. They've drawn blood a couple of times. ← My first (and best) snake was a garter, very tame. Liked to go up my long sleeve shirt and come out at the neck hole. Never had a problem picking him up or anything. The snake that replaced him, a bigger one with a sort of pug head (can't recall the type) now that was a nasty mo fo.

Better late than never ... 1) How High the Moon ... nice. In the universe of organists there is Jimmy Smith and all the others, so I'll go with the odds and say its one of the others. 2) Part of the reason for my guess on number one is the assumption that it is number 2 that is one of the "no-brainers" Jim mentioned. Fun track, and all I could think was, thank GOD that the G-Man didn't choose this tune for his Satchmo duet. I can just imagine a big old batch of cheeze whizzery noodling around that vocal. 3) No guess here. 4) Familiar tune ... oh so familiar. Sounds like 70s era Rollins to me, like this is one of the tracks that Jim likes to play when he wants to prove that there really are gems in his latter-era catalog? 5) Don't get this one at all. 6) Nothing wrong with this but no names jump out at me. 7) Dig the sax, don't care for the arrangement/strings. Moments here make me think of Stanley T. 8) Sounds like they're going for a Pres/Lady Day thing but why reinvent the wheel or try to improve on something that can't be improved on? 9) Everything's Comin Up Roses but no guesses are coming up. 10) Nother highly familiar tune but ... 11) Vibes or xylophone on Hi Fly? Don't know ... love the tune but have heard better renditions. 12) Another one that's nice enough but not ringing any bells. 13) HUH????? OK, maybe this is coming out of left field, but the weird thing to me (or the extra weird thing to me) is that there are little snippets in the music that sounds like something really off kilter in Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. 14) Is the honking tenor what we're supposed to concentrate on? Is it Plas or Clifford Scott? 15) Gots to be Stanley T. and so I'll guess its the one time Mrs. T (and Miss Cott) on organ. 16) Is that Sweets on trumpet? Or someone who owes him for stealing his shit? 17) Nothing here for me, I'm afraid. thanks Jim, much less, uh, painful than the last one!

Here's the simplest explanation I can give: Public Domain: FIFTY years in the EU. SEVENTY FIVE in the US. So if you want to reissue old records, get yourself a nice clean copy of the original, make sure its 50 years old, and set up shop in Europe. Note: These policies have not stopped certain European companies from reissuing albums that are not yet public domain, even under European law. But no one seems to do anything about these companies. So maybe you could set yourself up and reissue albums that aren't yet PD anyway. But I'd do it in Europe, just to be on the safe side. The other reissue programs you mention, like Water, have licensing agreements with the copyright holders. So your last option would be to approach the copyright holders of the music you'd like to see reissued and try to reach a licensing agreement.

With all the B.S. that's gone on between me and Paul about the series between the Sox, lost is the fact that the Yanks visit the other division leaders, also for four games. Be real interesting to see how the top two teams in the East stack up against the top two teams this weekend.

I also owned a couple of snakes growing up. Mom used to pet its little head with her finger like it was a dog! Full name of my garter snake: Sly and the Family Snake.

There was an article about this in the NYT yesterday. I like the phrase "Lawrence Welk for Hip Seniors",

Thanks Berigan, though it doesn't take the place of Gammons writing and insight. (that's aimed at ESPN, not you!)

Yeah, but you came back with two in the 8th to beat the Yanks, Cordero had no room for error and still got the save ... and the Sox are back in first as SCHILLING records his first save! Now do us all a favor and pound on this guy Smalls who pitches tomorrow for New York!
