  1. Well, I'd say its fine so long as you do not intend to take the opportunity to mine the best answers from others and pass them off as your own.
  2. I actually thought of this, too, Marcus, but in my imagination it would end up like the Secret Santa in my office ... I always get a Gift Card from Borders so I can pick something I want! I can just see 30 or 40 gift cards flying around the world! Might as well just go to a store yourself, pick something out, pay for it, and say, "Thank you, Organissimo Secret Santa!" Actually, another way to do it might be an Amazon gift certificate. I do suspect that people like Chuck would object to burns of in print material, so maybe the gift certificate/gift card option is best. It does eliminate the opportunity to actually pick something for someone, but when you consider the size of some people's collections, it also eliminates the risk that you'll send something that's a duplicate. In terms of assigning Secret Santas, I'd suggest that B3er do it. He could take a signup thread and just pair people up and let those people know.
  3. Here's a great CD of this band:
  4. This aimed at me, Chuck?
  5. Happy Birthday, David!
  6. Hey, all Gordon Griggs ever wanted was someone to love and someone who loves him. {Harvey Weinstein Voice} Is that so wrong????
  7. No problem.
  8. Oh, I think he'll fire his GM, just for not figuring out a way to stop A-Rod! Then toss some furniture, throw 50 million at Pettite and 150 million at Vlad and ...
  9. Paul, you can upload but only if its smaller than 100K. Just browse for the file in the field "File Attachments" below the main posting field.
  10. Read DEEP's post four posts above yours.
  11. There's something seriously frightening about his entire story.
  12. I think they all have the blue cover, the point of the thread was to show how silly a blue cover looks on the True Blue cover specifically.
  13. As terrible as that particular story is, its things like this that make me glad DEEP is here.
  14. What were they thinking?
  15. Well, Minew, you got your wish, and at least LSU actually deserves to play for the championship. But I am just sickened by the fact that Oklahoma can lose a Conference Championship-be absolutely WHOOPED in fact-and still ends up number one in the BCS. WTF??????? This is makes the BCS to be a complete and total joke and the only hope is that this will lead to its elimination. Otherwise, just like they have bonus points for "quality wins", they should make it so that a loss in November or later, or even just a loss in the last game of the year, has enough of a negative impact that there's no way on God's green earth that this can happen again. What a fucking joke. In the meantime, I will boycott the championship game.
  16. Wouldn't Trane be pretty obvious?
  17. Here's another honest opinion: On that really old track with the male vocalist, my first instinct at the very beginning was to wonder whether I was about to hear Andy Kaufman singing the theme to "Mighty Mouse". Afterwards, I wished I had.
  18. Interesting piece, but didn't Alfred sell in 1967 and this session was 1969, so why does Kaplan write that ???
  19. They don't even stock SPEARMINT Altoids at my local Publix, just peppermint, so I'm not exactly expecting to find ginger anytime soon.
  20. To borrow from a fellow member, Jim, *Clasp*!
  21. Considering how long his efforts must have took, I'm thinking it was War and Peace.
  22. This has been brought up tonite by AB and at the same time, listening to Jim S.'s discs also suggests to me that it is a discussion ripe for the having. AB asked things like, are you supposed to try to stump people? Are cuts from a Mosaic set too obvious? Does it have to be jazz, what about "cool instrumental music"? In the meantime, Jim has included stuff that I wouldn't have considered at all. So, #1, I'd like to suggest that we agree to stick to jazz, in its many countless forms and not stray into other genres. It is a jazz board, even as we talk about other musical forms with almost as much enthusiasm. #2, as to AB's questions, I would say that the point is NOT to stump people or to find the most obscure recordings. Pick tunes you like by artists you admire. Don't go looking for obscurities, but don't avoid them either. Give a mix. Make it a tune that will be recognized by an artist you might not expect. Find a middle ground-not too easy and not too hard. Music from Mosaic sets are fine-Dr. J. used one himself. Any source is fine, too-CD, LP, private recording even. I used a track from a VHS tape. As people are getting their own compilations lined up, I think it would be a good idea to hash out opinions on these matters, especially for people who missed the earlier discussions of these issues.
  23. OK, I took my medicine. Disc 2-second verse, same as the first. I won't bore you with the details. Cut 5 was the best and that's an extremely relative term. #2 I kind of dug but it got boring. #3 and #10 are jazz? Don't think so.
  24. Yes, but what was he reading during all of his exertions?
  25. I mean, participate at all. May I suggest that we discuss intervals in a different thread?
