favorite movie to watch on Thanksgiving Day?
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, I know its going to be the Cowboys/Dolphins game in the late afternoon, but otherwise, we need to dig into the pile of Netflix DVDs, probably watch a classic spoof of the Cold War era, The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming!. -
Very good my friend, and thank you for not incorporating James T. Cat!

Does anyone know the full poem that was shortened to "Spahn and Sain and pray for rain"? Here it is, by Gerry Hern, Boston Post sports editor: First we'll use Spahn, then we'll use Sain. Then an off day, followed by rain. Back will come Spahn, followed by Sain, And followed, we hope, by two days of rain.

YES! Hop Scotch Suey hasn't proven himself a major leaguer, especially after that horrific collision, so trading one-for-one for Lee is awesome for the Cubbies. I think you'll see Lee hit a lot of homers in Wrigley, his defense is excellent, and for a tall guy, he motors around the bases awfully well.
-
Spahn very good at the plate-I believe he has the record for homers by a lefty pitcher-35 or something like that. And in 1958 he became the only pitcher to have a 20 win season (22) and a .300 average (.333). And don't forget, with all of those complete games, he wasn't lifted for a pinch hitter very often!

David, the last thing you said. Considering that the Sox are on the hook to Manny for huge bucks, why not upgrade and get a "good citizen" and intelligent ballplayer if you're going to pay huge dollars either way? And BTW, Nomar has been rumored to be on the way out for a while. Getting A-Rod would hasten the inevitable, in my opinion. And much as I love the guy, I'd love to see someone who doesn't always fly out when there's runners on the corner and two outs and he hacks at the first pitch, every single damn time. The fact is, the Red Sox will have to field a different team this year or certainly in 2005, with Pedro, Nomar, Varitek, Lowe and Nixon all up for free agency. Signing Pedro or Nomar may mean no money for the lesser of those three (but almost equally important players, IMO) so maybe its time to make a big move. One thing you can be sure of, Yankee fans ... this team and its ownership will be like the Terminator-always moving forward, always trying to beat you guys. They are obsessed, you're right about that, but I for one am glad. And with the Yankees in inevitable transition, I kind of likes our chances, sooner or later. Philly, Good analysis of Manny/A-Rod. Nomar goes home to California if it happens. Don't forget that a trade, if its worthwhile to both teams, has to include a chance for Nomar to sign long-term, should he want to.

Since you're speaking of Colonel Mustard, he clearly falls in the category of "A Coalition of Warmongers Intent On Making Sure We Defend Against Communism in Vietnam (The Oliver Stone Scenario)"

I think its unanimous. Get it! Unless you're going to go for the Mosaic ...

HEY! If you're 20, I'm 19!!! Seriously!

What Maren said. Shooting a high powered rifle that close to a house .... unbelievable. -
And "Forensic Files" on Court TV showed how the Zapruder film captured Connoly's jacket being blown open by the impact of the shot immediately after Kennedy is shot. Plus, how do you account for the fact of Connoly's wounds and where they came from? Were there now TWO shooters from the rear? Forensic Files also showed a fascinating result explaining how the "magic" bullet could end up the way it did, with no damage to the head, but flattening of the sides: It came out of Kennedy in a tumbling motion. And here's a fact: Connolly's wound in his back wasn't round, it was oblong, like a tumbling bullet would. And another fact: bullet's exiting cadavers tumbled. And tumbling bullets keep tumbling, showing no damage to the head but lots of flattening. The Zapruder film tells us more than Mrs. Connolly can because not only is physical reaction shown but things like his coat coming open shows exactly when he was hit, concommitant to Kennedy being hit in the throat.

I understand your suspicions, but until his fluke injury this year, Schilling has been every bit a horse for quite a few years. I frankly don't see any reason why he couldn't sustain the performance that Clemens showed up to 40. I'm also not convinced he'll break the bank on an extension. The Sox have other big financial problems to work through, so if he really insists on too much, they won't get it done. But he's said intelligent things about what kind of money he wants-that its money on top of money he can't spend-so I think a deal is do-able. Intersting, isn't it, that the D-Backs wanted Soriano and JOhnson but are accepting far less from the Sox? I bet its fallout from the whole David Wells fiasco of two years ago-playing real hard ball with the Yanks. And despite your misgivings, I do think this is a real shot across the bow of the SS Steinbrenner, a warning that we're always going to compete. Anything that gives George a conniption is fine by me!

I agree, much better than "Clemens and Hurst or expect the worst" OR "Hurst and Clemens and the rest are lemons" When you consider the career Steve Carlton had and he still didn't reach Spahn's mark, you respect him all the more. RIP.

I love it, you ARE da man! Too bad there aren't any Three Sounds covers that are really conducive to this sort of thing, though I guess you could take the "Bottoms Up" cover and have the three drain their glasses.

Please let it be true ... please let it be true ... please let it be true! I'd put a starting rotation of Pedro, Schilling and Lowe against anyone!

URGENT: To anyone who bought CDs from me

These things tend to work out eventually. I bought something on ebay as a Christmas present so I told the seller to ship to my folk's house in Connecticut. It didn't show up for over a week so the guy sent me the tracking number. You'll never guess the direction it took out of New York state: Toward Minnesota! Stopped in Minnesota for days on end and the next time it was scanned was when it arrived in Connecticut! I was starting to freak! -
I'm not at all sure that the separate page is necessary. Really, this is no different from couw's work to compile the AOTW Selectors. This thread was supposed to be it, I didn't anticipate that a bunch of people would jump in with, well, I'd like to do it someday, etc. You know, a signup is a signup. If you're not signing up, don't. When you're ready to sign up, do it.
-
Wouldn't that mean someone could edit it and put themselves ahead of someone else?
-
I can see that at some point we're going to need a pinned list of just the signups, in order.
-
Well, since Randy has grabbed #6, and Man with the Golden Arm didn't declare which one he wants to do, I'd say that you are #7. Folks, please read through the thread and declare which one you want. Saying you want to "segue one up" doesn't exactly mean you have dibs on a specific test. Not trying to be school marm-ish here, but since I got this change started, I'd like to see it work well.
-
Rooster, you might want to grab #7 or 8 while its available-with Jim's not ready to ship, Couw won't go before the end of December, Randy will be sometime in January, and you're into February.
-
OK, folks, the members have spoken and the method of selecting future Blindfold Test compilers is officially changed. Couw has been selected by Jsangry to compile Test #5. Please post here to declare your desire to compile Test #6 and beyond, first come, first serve. Note: If you are signing up, please declare the number of the test you want (I think its fine to skip ahead if you know you want to do it several months hence). ***************** Use or B3-er, please "pin" this one!

Way to go Peter!
