  1. I agree, much better than "Clemens and Hurst or expect the worst" OR "Hurst and Clemens and the rest are lemons" When you consider the career Steve Carlton had and he still didn't reach Spahn's mark, you respect him all the more. RIP.
  2. I love it, you ARE da man! Too bad there aren't any Three Sounds covers that are really conducive to this sort of thing, though I guess you could take the "Bottoms Up" cover and have the three drain their glasses.
  3. Please let it be true ... please let it be true ... please let it be true! I'd put a starting rotation of Pedro, Schilling and Lowe against anyone!
  4. These things tend to work out eventually. I bought something on ebay as a Christmas present so I told the seller to ship to my folk's house in Connecticut. It didn't show up for over a week so the guy sent me the tracking number. You'll never guess the direction it took out of New York state: Toward Minnesota! Stopped in Minnesota for days on end and the next time it was scanned was when it arrived in Connecticut! I was starting to freak!
  5. I'm not at all sure that the separate page is necessary. Really, this is no different from couw's work to compile the AOTW Selectors. This thread was supposed to be it, I didn't anticipate that a bunch of people would jump in with, well, I'd like to do it someday, etc. You know, a signup is a signup. If you're not signing up, don't. When you're ready to sign up, do it.
  6. Wouldn't that mean someone could edit it and put themselves ahead of someone else?
  7. I can see that at some point we're going to need a pinned list of just the signups, in order.
  8. Well, since Randy has grabbed #6, and Man with the Golden Arm didn't declare which one he wants to do, I'd say that you are #7. Folks, please read through the thread and declare which one you want. Saying you want to "segue one up" doesn't exactly mean you have dibs on a specific test. Not trying to be school marm-ish here, but since I got this change started, I'd like to see it work well.
  9. Rooster, you might want to grab #7 or 8 while its available-with Jim's not ready to ship, Couw won't go before the end of December, Randy will be sometime in January, and you're into February.
  10. OK, folks, the members have spoken and the method of selecting future Blindfold Test compilers is officially changed. Couw has been selected by Jsangry to compile Test #5. Please post here to declare your desire to compile Test #6 and beyond, first come, first serve. Note: If you are signing up, please declare the number of the test you want (I think its fine to skip ahead if you know you want to do it several months hence). ***************** Use or B3-er, please "pin" this one!
  11. Way to go Peter!
  12. First thing on my list for many years now has been a Mosaic set. I'm strongly leaning towards the Gerald Wilson this year, especially since I heard less than stellar reports on the sound quality of the Stanley T. set.
  13. Peter, You have my positive vibes and enormous respect that you've run marathons. My running is limited to mad dashes after fuzzy yellow balls Actually, though, I made an awesome "get" a couple of nights ago, coming from way behind the baseline to cover a drop shot and hit a winner-it was so surprising that my opponent (who played soccer professionally in Brazil) said, "man, how did you get to that ball? You surprise me sometimes, man!" Made my day. B) As I am sure completing the marathon will yours. Good luck!
  14. Well, forty views, 10 voters, it looks like a statistically insignificant landslide. Barring a drastic change in fortune, this poll will come to an end Monday morning with a brand new selection method. Then the question will be, who starts the new "Sign up" thread? We can leave it to B3-er, or I can start it if you like. But first we'll let this go another day or so.
  15. My pick is Michigan too, both for the home field and especially for the troubles OSU has on offense. They're already down 21 and with the offense performing as horribly as it has, I think you can stick a fork in 'em, even before the second half. Another dream shattered by Michigan. What else is new?
  16. I wouldn't necessarily say that, Harold. It was more a straight reading of the melody that made me go "ugh, I used to dig that pseudo exotic thing, but damn, I think I've heard it too damn much!" and I didn't exactly listen to the solos, I was fighting the urge to cue up the next tune ... then came the return to the theme and I said, "yup, I've heard this sucker too many times" and then I started this thread.
  17. I'd usually agree with you, maybe its that '"Caravan" has popped up too often lately, but when Jimmy Forrest's version from his Delmark album with Grant Green came up a little while ago, I kinda snapped and started this thread!
  18. I may be blasphemous, but I'm going to nominate "Caravan."
  19. Well, Moose, doncha know that LBJ and Bobby only hated each other after Jack was murdered??!! So, I mean, c'mon, its not that farfetched! GoM, since I'm sure you'll agree that the CIA is on the side of the warmongering, Oliver Stone conspiracists, yes, they're covered in that catch-all.
  20. And speaking of altering event, take a look at this looney tunes "alternate history of the US, had Kennedy lived": This guy is so far off his nut its pathetic! I mean, he's got Colin Powell as VP BEFORE the Gulf War which is the only thing that made him a national figure.
  21. Fellow Dexhead says " ", Bruce!
  22. You absolutely do not have a clue. Read Posner's book. The ability to shoot that rifle in the time allotted is unquestionable. Posner demonstrates over and over again the fact that the "extraordinary" number of dead witnesses A) carries no statistical significance and most importantly B. there were perfectly normal, "regular" causes of death Read the book. It demolishes every element of the "conspiracy".
  23. Interesting idea, Chris, though it would mean I would have to finagle contact numbers for those people, and also put off Bob's interview, which is something I don't really want to do. When he left the message for me, he was somewhat difficult to understand, his voice sounded kind of weak. Fortunately, when I returned his call he definitely sounded better and stronger (I was afraid I'd need to keep a microphone right under his chin in order to be sure I caught every word!). So, I do think that an early January interview with Weinstock is a good idea-unfortunately doing anything other than getting ready for that will be tough. Aside from Red Holloway, Jackie Mac, who else is still around? I know I am missing a lot, but for some reason I'm drawing a blank, at least for the pre-soul jazz era Prestige.
  24. This one's in the CD player in the car, and I just know that before I swap out those CDs, I'm gonna give it another listen, or three! Just terrific stuff, I love Red's vocal especially.
  25. Well, now we know who voted for the Mafia I really recommend Posner's book. It does a remarkable job of establishing Oswald as the killer, the lone killer. The same way that it was fate that brought the motorcade under Oswald's window and gave him the opportunity to plan the assasination, I think fate also allowed Ruby to be in that garage, pistol at the ready. When he carried out his own murder, it provided so much fodder for mafia-conspiracists. I don't have any doubt that without Oswald's murder, the mob theory would crumble. The other factor of course, is the more innocent time. Nowadays, Oswald would have a flak jacket on for all public appearances.
