  1. I'm curious the reasons people have for not wanting to participate. Anyone?
  2. As to the question of time between tests, this was one of the reasons I suggested this change. Knowing that your test is coming up ought to mean that you are moving forward on your compilation, and should even solicit assistants/participants ahead of time. I think the sequence should be this: Test #X announces he is shipping/Test #X + 1 should solicit interested parties. Then, by the time Answers are being discussed (not the guessing, the answers), the next test should be shipping. But we could definitely tighten this up.
  3. After reading the thread title, I'm just glad its not a picture of some poor schmoe's Johnson!
  4. That Jim Dye, always helping out! Got mine in today's mail, I'm still a bit afraid to pop it in but I'll try to have some impressions by tomorrow or Monday.
  5. Thanks for the list, Brad. Nice to see them going deeper into the Argo catalog. Maybe there's hope that someday they'll put out my current "Holy Grail", Richard Evans Trio, Home Cookin'. I'm pretty certain it was released at the time-there's no indication otherwise at the Argo discography website I've seen, plus, Eddie Higgins gave me Evans' contact info, and he told me he remembered the session and also going to a Chicago soul food restaurant to have pictures taken for the album. So its gotta exist, but in two or more years, I've never seen it on ebay, while his other LP, Richard's Almanac, shows up at least once a month.
  6. Which was the pet, and which was the street? Chauncey was an Irish Setter. Chicken was the street.
  7. Not cool, Ed, editing this post down to this sentence. But, regardless, I encourage you to check Danny's post above this one. Stay away from this thread, and you'll stay away from DEEP. If Danny is true to his word, I don't see why anyone would feel a need to head for the hills due to DEEP's presence. Apologies Dan I posted, then re-thought - and edited. I checked before I did and since there were no replies, made the edit. I just decided that yes - pretty much Deep has been here and that all I need to do is ignore him like I do the politics. Basically, in retrospect I thought I was wrong in making that post so I edited it. If you'll check the post time and edit time, I think you'll see that my post was edited before any subsequent posts were made. I was hoping no one else had read it but apparently you had. Your "not cool Ed comment" - which I am assuming questions my integrity - could have been avoided had you looked at the times of the post and the edit. Your edit was at 8:19. My post was at 8:22. Believe me, I was in the midst of composing my post when you edited it, and since I hadn't used the Quote function, it had the effect of leaving me responding to something that didn't exist anymore. Its something that's caught me before but I guess I haven't learned the lesson still. Anyway, no biggie-I just want to make sure that people understand DEEP is staying right here and not polluting the rest of the board, so its really pretty easy to stay away from his posts, if you stay around, which I sincerely hope you will.
  8. I've been working my way through my collection and this week, found myself deep into the G's, and I happened to load up on discs from two great players: Bennie Green Al Grey And it suddenly dawned on me, these are two guys who always bring a smile to my face. Such joy and spirit in their playing! A lot like Pops in a way. So what is it about 'bonists? The vocal effects that can be made? Is it the fact that both came up more in the swing era than the bop era? I mean, I love JJ and Curtis Fuller, but those guys don't make me like Al and Bennie. Please join me in giving some love to Al Grey and Bennie Green, cause they sure loved playin' for y'all. B)
  9. How about an artist's rendering, Chuck?
  10. OK, various pets and various streets, but this is the best I got: Chauncey Chicken Maybe for gay porn ...
  11. Not cool, Ed, editing this post down to this sentence. But, regardless, I encourage you to check Danny's post above this one. Stay away from this thread, and you'll stay away from DEEP. 12. Daniel has hit the nail on the head, but I must also share this statement from DEEP, taken from his "Olive Branch" thread: So there you have it, folks: If Danny is true to his words, don't see the thread, don't see DEEP, until the "ignore" function is added to the software. So where is the problem????? Thanks, DEEP.
  13. The fact of the matter, Ed, is that Deep has remained in this forum. Don't surf this forum, don't see Deep. And in the meantime, there are dozens and dozens of other active threads. And if you want to parcel out action on Deep's threads, then also parcel out all of Deep's posts on same-they ought not to count, since its just him seeking attention. Look, I agree that Deep is a polarizing character. But that doesn't mean that he automatically gets kicked from any board he appears on, just because his reputation precedes him.
  14. Well, we finally have a name that might almost plausibly be a porn name. Otherwise, I don't see the point of this game, sorry.
  15. Well, my excuses are similar. Its gotten so bad that for Christmas, I plan to take that Miles biography, So What with me on the plane, and it was a present from last Christmas! And yet, I've got three or four books on my list again ... it just doesn't stop.
  16. About the cannibalism in the Andes-that book, Alive, was one of my favorite books growing up! Seriously. But the "regular" cannibalism you guys are talking about is totally different from this nut job. I mean, he wanted to eat his playmates from a young age, to "have them with him forever" and then solicited a volunteer to be killed and eaten! I can't believe this guy is even on trial-I think if it happend hear you'd say "not guilty by reason of insanity" pretty damn quick. Moose, that was the funniest thing you've ever posted!
  17. Well, if you think you can get with the label and get the info from them-phone number and also address if possible-that would be great. I just figured since Jim had something of a working relationship, that might help him in getting in touch. But anything you can do would be great!
  18. After a ridiculous number of problems, I've finally got an uploadable scan of the Mobley photo. Its not the best, but it will have to do. For those unfamiliar with it from when it was posted on the BNBB, here's the story: The date was March 22, 1980. Steeplechase Records was considering giving Hank a recording date, so he was invited to sit in with the Tete Montoliu Trio. The audition didn't go too well-Hank had lung problems pretty much throughout the '70s and nothing came of it. Nothing was put out originally, but when the date, I Want To Talk About You, came out on CD, Steeplechase added the one usable track, "Autumn Leaves." This picture was on the back of the CD insert. To me, Hank looks like a shell of his former self, like he had a very rough time of it in the seventies and it had aged him markedly. There's also something somehow sad in his eyes-at least the way I see it. If anyone wants to see a better scan and can handle a 1 mb e-mail attachment as a .BMP file, let me know and I can e-mail from work (hotmail won't let me send a file that size, no way no how.)
  19. Guys, I tried my best to upload this sucker, made sure it was under 100K and an uploadable format but it won't happen for me! I've sent it to B3er however, so hopefully he can do something. Otherwise, I could send the image to people, if you can handle 1 MB attachments.
  20. If Vasquez turns out t handle New York better than Weaver, you've made a very good pickup. But at what cost???? Nick Johnson is the greatest prospect to come out of the Yankee system in years and years and years. He has superstar written all over him, and not only have you tossed him away, you've set yourself up for atrocious infield defense from a guy who already needs knee surgery and its feared that it won't even help him that much. I'm not happy you have Vasquez but I am thrilled you gave up Johnson. As far as Weaver for Brown, well ... if that trade gets made than its time for baseball's own Warren Commission, because there is no way that a rich franchise like the Dodgers gives up a pitcher of that quality for Jeff Weaver. It would have to be a conspiracy ... involving the Cubans, the Mob, the CIA AND Marilyn Monroe.
  21. How about St. Louis in June, instead?
  22. And there was a link to this: Master, I beg you to tell me What can I do to please you? Shall I offer you my body? It is young and for your pleasure Would you like me to comfort you? To love you without question My soul is yours if you want it Please take it, Dear Master I live only to tend to your wishes Only to serve your fancies ~Untitled Haiku~ Was it my tear that stroked my breast to fall softly to my naked thigh ~Novelty~ I am a novelty. That little thing you want so bad until you finally get it and then it's not quite as fun to have it as it is to want it. But as with all novelties you can keep me for those moments I might strike your fancy or you can give me to another or throw me away. For I am a novelty and I wish only to bring you pleasure in any way I can. And check out the pic of the author!
  23. Thanks, Jim! I've got the other two of Bubba Brooks CDs on their way to me as we speak!
  24. How about an alternative destination for a get-together next June? From Euclid Records' e-mail: JAZZ COLLECTORS TAKE NOTE- The International Association of Jazz Record Collectors annual convention will be held here in our hometown of St. Louis, MO, June 16-19. The last two days will be open to the public and will feature a Jazz and Blues only record and CD convention. We already have obligations from some of the best record dealers in the U.S. the convention will also feature live music, Jazz films as well as guest speakers. We'll be supplying more information as it develops but this will be an event NOT to miss! For more information about the IAJRC as well as membership info, check the website at http://www.geocities.com/iajrc/ Think of it! It would be the greatest CD/Vinyl Safari of all time, and we could all hang out together and shoot the breeze during what is sure to be a very cool jazz gathering! And St Louis is a pretty fine town, with some great eats, too. If we get enough of a turnout, we could take over O'Connells and chow down on the greatest burgers on the face of the planet! Seriously, I mentioned this event to my wife (we've thought of vacationing in St. Louis) so this is definitely on my radar screen. How about the rest of the Organissimo-ers?
  25. Was "screwball" short for "it'll screw your arm up, big time!"?
