  1. I never objected to the half-naked women but really, hasn't he gone too far?
  2. Not a bad point, Aggie. Though I think that if I go with the option of playing tunes by people he played with/Chicago musicians, after a couple of spins he will see what I am doing anyway. He may not want to hear a selection to trigger a memory or thought-for that I could just play "Name Association" with him. Thanks to everyone for the input.
  3. Thanks John, the one problem is I do not know just how much time Eddie is allotting me so I may not get a chance to play more than 5 or 6 tunes at most. That's also making me think exclusively in terms of shorter tracks which unfortunately eliminates a tune that would be othrwise perfect. Its from Ira Sullivan's Delmar LP with Johnny Griffin, I can't think of the title but it features Sullivan on all of his instruments plus Johnny Griffin on both alto and baritone ... Eddie has played pretty regularly with Sullivan in South Florida, so I am definitely considering something by him, but this tune runs 18 minutes or so and I can't see listening to the whole darn thing!
  4. I have managed to finagle an interview with Eddie Higgins next weekend. He has also graciously agreed to subject himself to a "Blindfold Test" and I am now trying to decide the approach I should take. I am not promising to follow the results of the board but I am interested to hear the suggestions of board members. I am leaning toward option 3 as it would hopefully trigger more memories/commentary and it would also ease Eddie's one expressed concern, looking foolish if he doesn't recognize the music/musicians. Because I do not want to post this at AAJ since I may approach them with the finished article, I have temporarily withdrawn my self-imposed posting ban. Thanks for the feedback.
  5. Anyone who takes a look at my waistline can tell that I have a real problem with ignoring temptations. See you when the software includes an ignore function. Bye.
  6. Let's put it this way. I had an epiphany yesterday. Life is too short to waste it getting annoyed by people I don't give a shit about. So unless you can enable an ignore function, I'll be at AAJ where the software keeps my blood pressure down.
  7. Weizen can confirm this, but I am pretty sure this is what is called a "push poll". (Sorry Jeff, I kept this in the political realm)
  8. I thought there was an ignore function in the software, but I can't find it. Am I missing something or what?
  9. Thanks again, when I get another message I will PM you and forward it on. Here's hoping the Pee Wee is as nice as the Griff.
  10. Thanks a lot, Ubu, I really appreciate it. Hopefully the 1-2 week shipping time is right and they do in fact have it or can find it. And hopefully it will be as nice as the Griffin/Parlan duo! One more question: What would I see in the subject field of the message that it has shipped? I just got the confirmation e-mail but of course I have no idea what it says!
  11. The one with Golson is Drip a Little Grease I think. Another good 'un. (Doncha just know that the name "Three of a Kind" made the former Gene Harris Fanatic hope that the Three Sounds would turn out to be their inspiration?
  12. Man that sucks! The guy at the label told me its out of print, this seems to be the one website that lists it (as far as coming up on a google search) and it can't be ordered ... Thanks anyway
  13. For me, the Wilkerson is a just big old party waiting to happen. No, it has no pretensions to "art" but I dig it a whole lot. In fact, I dig it much more than his bop album, Texas Twister. For the BNs he was in his element and doing his thing.
  14. Thanks. I found a site that appears to have the Ellis/Parlan CD in stock, but I have no idea how to order it. Can anyone help? http://www.in-akustik.com/tt/navi/mid.asp?...an=033585507329 Thanks!
  15. I recently acquired a quite nice CD from this European label and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice/recommendations for others. Specifically, I got a copy of Johnny Griffin Meets Horace Parlan which turned out to be a lovely set of duets in which Griff lays off the 'fastest gun in the west" routine in favor of some wonderfully warm and easy going swing. Great stuff and I hope our European friends can find it easier than I did. So, I noticed in the liners that they also released a "Pee Wee Ellis Meets Horace Parlan" CD but unfortunately that appears to be OOP. If anyone has this I would definitely be interested in working out a trade of some sort. But meanwhile, I did learn that they have a few copies of Pee Wee's "Yellin' Blue" but I hesitate a bit. Anyone familiar with this? Any other Minor Music gems to pursue? The other titles I have are a couple by the group Three of a Kind, one has Stanley Turrentine and the other has Benny Golson as guest. Fine swinging piano trio. Thanks!
  16. FYI, this rarity attracted 11 bids and went for $46.
  17. Did you tell her about the idea of adopting a Total Media Blackout? I tell you, it does wonders to lift the spirits. Seriously, some people do get their identities wrapped up in such superficial allegiances. Just as some people refer to their preferred team as "we". "We won last night." "We won the National Championship". Maybe we need Dr. Achtung or Rob to tell us about the psychological underpinnings of these attitudes.
  18. True, but the meaning of "pussy" can hardly be mistaken from the sentence "stuck a flute up my pussy". They also didn't do anything to her subsequent line about "wear both of these condoms-I don't want you to cum too fast".
  19. I happened upon the FX channel's rebroadcast of "American Pie" last night and I was absolutely stunned at what I saw and heard. First came a scene where one girl said to the other "yup, he's got a dick-he's a guy" and I'm thinking, did I really just hear that? So I kept watching, including the bathroom experience of the dork character who doesn't like public bathrooms, right up to the unforgettable scene when Allison Harrigan says, "One time, at band camp, I stuck a flute up my pussy!". And that's exactly what she said. What the hell happened to Standards and Practices? FX may be cable, but its not a premium channel. Its not HBO or Cinemax. Its part of many basic or "basic +" cable packages. Now, I of course realize that Standards and Practices on Network television has evolved (or should we say devolved?) over the last ten years or so. There are things that are said and shown that would never have been seen or shown in the past. But what the fuck? Nice to know there are still some limits, though. I called a friend of mine and he stayed up for the 11 pm rebroadcast and tells me that Shannon Elizabeth didn't get naked in the earlier scene with the guy who molests the apple pie later on. Did anyone else see this new low in broadcasting? What do you think?
  20. Since I skipped so many important dates, like the Grant Green/Sonny Clark or the dates that came out in the Lost Sessions batch, maybe the next step is a second or third poll followed by a play-off? I have a feeling that Procrastinator will win regardless.
  21. Tom, I AM that spouse! While I couldn't care less about certain sports-basketball and hockey being foremost on the list-I am deeply committed to Red Sox baseball and Florida State Seminole Football. In fact, I hate to admit it, but at one point before our wedding, I reacted to a particularly disheartening result-don't remember which but I think it was baseball-by grabbing a baseball-shaped beanbag and getting some frustration out by heaving it at the wall. I didn't do any damage, that was the whole point of the projectile I chose. But I did make the dog jump off the couch and run into the bedroom cowering in fear that she had done something wrong. Later on that night my wife made it clear that she couldn't handle these outbursts and I promised not to do it again. That turned out to be a simple matter of keeping the throw-ables out of reach. I do have a good suggestion for your wife though. When any of the following happens: Florida State loses to Miami, the Florida Gators or the National Championship game; The Yankees win the World Series or the Red Sox are eliminated I declare a Total Media Blackout. No TV, radio, Internet, etc. No highlights, no analysis, no discussion. Total Media Blackout. Then, if someone says anything about the Miami game, I say with a straight face, "Miami? What Miami game?" (On the other hand, when the sports Gods smile and the result is favorable, then we go into Total Media Saturation, or the attempt to see as many replays and reports as possible, for at least the next 36 hours.)
  22. I knew there were some good ones I was blanking on! The software only allows ten choices anyway ...
  23. Having just finished listening to it, I am leaning toward Clubhouse. Can't for the life of me figure out why Alfred and Frank decided not to put it out.
