  1. I downloaded all the files and put them in a zip file on google drive (will delete the link in a few weeks): - EDIT see link below. P.S. Thanks for the "find"!
  2. If someone were to download them, store them in google drive, and share them, you could use the google drive search, which works on pdfs...
  3. Another fun cover!
  4. Melody Nelson is good, and I particularly like L'homme à la Tête de Choux. Lyrics are great, but the music has not aged well, IMO. My favorite is his early stuff, for example this classic: There have been many covers. Here is Juliette Greco's (Miles Davis' girlfriend!) And it turns out Greco was the inspiration for the song. Video is in French, sorry.
  5. Then you are in luck because the other half of those sessions were issued as Boss Soul.
  6. I'll second that. Nice an' Cool is not so easy to come by, but it has been re-issued on CD along with The Soulful Moods in this release, with very enthusiastic lines notes by Bob Porter: https://archive.org/details/cd_the-gene-ammons-story-gentle-jug_gene-ammons https://www.discogs.com/fr/master/442727-Gene-Ammons-The-Gene-Ammons-Story-Gentle-Jug
  7. https://www.prestomusic.com/jazz/products/9433497--bish-at-the-bank-live-in-baltimore You can listen to a few samples. There’s some tape hiss, but overall it sounds ok (on my phone).
  8. Registration on the Internet Archive is free. You can then simply "check out" (borrow) the book for 1 hour, which is renewable.
  9. I just received "Jazz from the Beginning" - by Garvin Bushell as told to Mark Tucker. Have started reading a few chapters - he's not too kind with some of his fellow musicians! On Miles Davis: "To be perfectly truthful about it, Miles never impressed me as a trumpet player. He missed more notes than anybody I'd ever seen. Dizzy was head and shoulders above him; when Dizzy put down his fingers, the right notes came out. Miles could never compete with guys like Clifford Brown or Fats Navarro. He did have good ideas, I'd never question that. What I'd question is his ability to execute those ideas." He is full of praise for Eric Dolphy. It certainly is an interesting read, lots of fun and interesting anecdotes, and astute comments. Am looking forward to reading the first chapters on his life in the 20s.. The book can also be read online here: https://archive.org/details/jazzfrombeginnin00garv
  10. Calvin Newborn wrote this book about his brother Phineas. I would like to read it, but the only copy I have found available online is a signed copy with a very high asking price. Has anyone here read it ? Would someone be willing to sell a copy ? Thanks. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40307915-as-quiet-as-it-s-kept-the-genius-of-phineas-newborn-jr
  11. Browsed through this resurrected thread and listened to Patterns of Jazz. Very nice laid back but groovy music. Dorham does complement Payne well (on 3 tracks). The album is available on streaming, but I ordered (on Discogs) the cd anyway!
  12. The version available on streaming services sounds fine. Elmo Hope is fascinating, and we get a long Gilmore solo on Night in Tunisia as an added bonus.
  13. Some of these albums are available on streaming services, now issued by the "Interstate" label: http://www.interstate-music.co.uk/harlequin/harlequinindex.htm Here's a link to the catalog available on Qobuz: https://play.qobuz.com/label/94586 I could not find the label on Spotify. 14. Thanks, good recommendation, I just listened to it. The album is available on streaming services, for example on Spotify, as part of those Swingville releases: There's a CD version that could be worth looking for. https://www.discogs.com/fr/master/1159763-Al-Sears-Swings-The-Thing Liner notes (on MusicBrainz):
  15. This is a nice set: http://desguin.net/sonotheque/1_JAZZ/1_ELLINGTON/Duke Ellington/Schmalenberg1970/catalogue.html Broadcast on Australian TV with Duke's comments:
  16. This week I fell in love with Erykah Badu 😁
  17. https://www.discogs.com/fr/release/3500415-Dave-Pells-Prez-Conference-featuring-Joe-Williams-Prez-Joe-In-Celebration-Of-Lester-Young This is a good one.
  18. Resurrecting this thread, as I have been listening to some of his albums, and just wanted to point out what seems to be an extensive discography here: http://fivecentsplease.org/dpb/guaraldi.html happy hannukkah!
  19. This one is available on streaming services (and it is not a needledrop - I have the LP as well). https://open.qobuz.com/album/0886446277233 Good album!
  20. Recording videos of one's system is not of much interest (other than to audiophiles), but this version of Autumn Leaves is worth sharing!
  21. Here is a link with some samples: https://www.lesmccannunlimited.com/photography Just bought the book as well!
  22. https://jmih.org/collections/benny-carter-the-princeton-concerts/ These albums are available through streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal. Not on Qobuz. I could not find any session information.
