  1. Happy new year everyone! Ditto on 2021 being a better year for all.
  2. Does the baggage of trash talk and hard line musical perspectives (from some of these artists) taint some of this work from decades past? Honest question because I'm not sure although it seems like part of the equation. I think it does for me in some respects, although I enjoy some records from one of the biggest trash talkers of all - Branford M. - who to this day can't stop slinging mud at current jazz artists. Sometimes I wonder if listening to these tracks divorced from that baggage would possibly open it up a bit more to those who may have sworn it off...again, not sure. I didn't get into this music until much later, so that hindsight helps a bit with that separation of the two.
  3. Reissue of Jacquet's Victor recordings from 1947-1950 except for the live version of Flying Home (over 8 minutes!) from the Newport Jazz Festival, July 3, 1967.
  4. Love the songs and the personnel but Fuller's horn doesn't sound good on this recording. Hard to listen all the way through unfortunately.
  5. I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you get good news in terms of treatment and that it goes back to remission.
  6. It's an xmas movie to me. Not wading into politics, geo or otherwise. If it was a marketing move, and it likely was, then it was very well done. As mentioned above from a post about 2 years ago other action movies and non-traditional holiday movies like Lethal Weapon have that xmas setting, but DH 1 & 2 weave it into the story (1 more so than 2) very well. Lethal Weapon, etc fall way short. Sometimes the marketing wizards get it right and they did with this one.
  7. It's really good. Definitely up there for me too.
  8. Absolutely! That Duke is one that I neglected for a while since it wasn't small group or full orchestra. For some stupid reason I didn't think I'd enjoy his trio work...100% wrong. It's gorgeous.
  9. First, Jackie McLean & the Great Jazz Trio with New Wine in Old Bottles. Then... Duke's Piano in the Foreground.
  10. One of my favorites. RIP.
  11. Red Holloway batting 1.000 on this page so far.
  12. The Wiki page on Louis' religion is funny. Raised Baptist, wears the Star of David in honor of the Jewish family that raised him, baptized (when?) Roman Catholic, met 2 popes and was/was not a Freemason but a Knight of Pythias. Something tells me it was more complicated/interesting/deeper than that.
