  1. No, you're right there. Brighton in Sussex, please.
  2. Any recommendations for record shopping in Brighton? I'll be there tomorrow.
  3. What is the organisation that posted this? Jazz in Pop Culture?
  4. Miroslav Vitous – Majesty Music A bit like Bobby McFerrin and D'Angelo, this record is fascinating when viewed as a clear bridge between the fusion and jazz funk of the early 70s and the chill out music of the 1990s and early 2000s. Impossible not to hear the latter from a 2024 viewpoint. It's a great record. Bluiett playing the way I always wish he would.
  5. Hamiet Bluiett, Marcello Melis and Don Moye – Bars
  6. Kaoru Abe Trio 1970.3.15 Shinjuku
  7. Interesting take. I always thought that the Jazz 101 idea that Lester Young is "cool" versus Hawkins being hot didn't stand up to three minutes actual listening to pre-war Basie. But is Charlie Parker in the Black Lester influence camp or the White Lester influence camp?
  8. Yeah. The Kaitaiteki Kokan one I mentioned is actually early for him and for Abe.
  9. Same. Takayanagi was a huge part of my musical development. I sent a friend who was going to Japan to buy me Kaoru Abe CDs and he came back with a bunch of Takayanagi, including Deconstructive Sympathy / Kaitaiteki Kokan, which was the least musical thing I had heard up to that point, and really put the Abe solo stuff in its place. I have no real feel for Takayanagi's timeline though.
  10. Is that pre-bookable? Very happy to do so, if so.
  11. This is really sad news.
  12. Sam Rivers – Black Africa! Villalago (Black Africa 1)
  13. Will it be available to download? E.g. on Bandcamp? I don't have a CD player these days.
  14. I'm the same. I know every note of this one.
  15. It just becomes another asset class
  16. Going by the back cover, that's a very flattering photograph of Harry Emmery.
  17. Sorry, mate. Not on Blue Note.
  18. Don Menza Sextet – Live At Carmelo's Jazz Club
  19. Probably my favourite jazz subgenre.
  20. Who is on this one? Is it from NY? I don't know of it.
  21. I enjoyed him on Something by Steve Marcus.
  22. Robin Eubanks - Karma
  23. Total brain slip on my part.
  24. Henri Texier and Daniel Humair is one.
