  1. I picked up the Vince Guaraldi album around '82, and for many years it was my favorite. But suddenly one year I for no apparent reason felt like I had heard it enough, and just don't need to hear it anymore. I got the Charles Brown King album in '79, and still enjoy it.

  10. The Washington Post reports that Jon Gruden has had enough of RGIII. http://dcprosportsreport.com/report-gruden-is-now-done-with-robert-griffin-iii/
  11. I am very pleased to announce that my high school alma mater, Jesuit High School of New Orleans, has moments ago won the Louisiana state championship for the first time since 1960. Jesuit has had two alumni go on to success in the Canadian league - Al Ecuyer of the Eskimos and Gill the Thrill Fenerty of the Argos. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Ecuyer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gill_Fenerty
  12. I promise I'll take care of the week's news tomorrow. In the meantime... Jeff Tedford has nominally been Tampa Bay's offensive coordinator this year, but he has missed most of the season due to illness. Tampa Bay released him today. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2290749-jeff-tedford-relieved-of-coaching-duties-by-tampa-bay-buccaneers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Tedford
  13. I think I remember seeing the Jolly Chimp in stores.
  14. Bhreandain, your Mosaic gift card is on its way! You know better than I do how long it will take to cross the border. Would I have heard of your wife's relative? If not, who was the primary owner at the time, and about when was this?

  17. I noticed a favorite of mine (I've mentioned it before) that I thought has been out of print for years - Helen Merrill's You've Got a Date with the Blues. On the lighter side, I saw as number of Howard Roberts Capitol albums from the mid to late '60s that I remember seeing in the stores.
  18. Nice varied selection, Michael! I see two albums by Walter Wanderley that I have never seen before. The covers' artwork suggest that they were both on A&M when Creed Taylor was with that label in the late '60s. I'm surprised that I've never seen them in 45 years.
  19. He was the sax on John Lennon's Whatever Gets You Through the Night. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Keys
  20. The republicans of Ontario enjoy writing letters to the editor of the Globe & Mail in which they refer to the Queen as "Betty Windsor." Well now comes a DNA study of the remains of Richard III that says that somebody committed adultery, and strongly suggests that the Windsors are therefore usurpers. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/questions-raised-over-queen%E2%80%99s-ancestry-after-dna-test-on-richard-iii%E2%80%99s-cousins/ar-BBgePqi?ocid=ansguardian11

  22. Here's a home video of a roller coaster an Ohio guy made for his three-year old son, spending only $700, mostly for PVC pipe and some concrete. Pretty impressive! http://www.littlethings.com/backyard-rollercoaster/
  23. Sounds great, Conrad! oldies.com has started selling DVDs of newsreels. I have seen 1960 and 1961 available.
