  2. http://www.al.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/01/mobilian_ward_swingle_founder.html RIP. When I first read about The Swingle Singers in the mid-'60s, I thought that their name was some sort of play on the word "swing!" I've never seen much of theirs available on CD. In 1989 I picked up their "Compact Jazz" release/compilation, but haven't seen much else since. About 1996 I got a new album of theirs called "a capella" I think. I enjoyed it very much, but it was very different from their '60s style.
  3. It's a legume (I think). correct I read in the paper not too many months ago that scientists consider peanuts to be a bean rather than a nut. My first thought was that apparently the term "tree nut" used by the food companies is redundant, if that's the right word - that all nuts are tree nuts.

  6. I find that sign interesting in that it gives MLK the title of Doctor, but fails to give Lee the title of General.
  7. OK, I've gone to gopresto.com and found my answer.

  10. Paul, I have no recollection of Reagan's view on the matter. But I do recall that there were many Republicans who felt that the day should be called Civil Rights Day, and not be associated with MLK. I think their reasoning was that, except for JFK and Bill Clinton, MLK was America's most famous cockhound, and the government should not be honoring such a person. Is that how you remember it?
  11. I've found a website for the Boy Scouts' Trail's End popcorn. http://www.trails-end.com/

  13. Jim, I've never heard of Boy Scouts popcorn before, but I'd be happy to check it out. May I assume that it is sold during only one brief period of the year?
  14. Milestones, in 1969 New Orleans was a test market for Orville Redenbacher popcorn. So that September when I returned to college, I brought along a supply. I believe that I introduced Redenbacher's to my college campus! The picture of Orville on the label was exactly the same as what it was for the remainder of his life, except that he had a flat top!
  15. Tomorrow is MLK Day. Anyone here have the day off because of it?
  16. Remember this thread? I came across it, and decided to give it another go 'round. I have outlived... Lee J. Cobb and Floyd Cramer by 9 days Gordon Waller by 31 days Mickey Mantle by 142 days Audrey Hepburn by 178 days In 56 days, I will have outlived Thelonious Monk.
  17. BeBop, I tried that many years ago, and I thought that without the oil the popcorn tasted terrible. Maybe you know something I don't know.
  18. I plan to be eating a lot of popcorn in 2015! For now, I plan to cook it in the microwave. Do any of you mavens have strong opinions about... 1) the world's best popcorn 2) the world's best popcorn oil 3) the best way to cook popcorn in oil in a microwave Thanks!

  25. This evening I opened up the Caravan Live album I received for Christmas. It was recorded July 24, 1990, with the lineup of David Sinclair, Richard Sinclair, Pye Hastings, Richard Coughlan and Jimmy Hastings. Those are the real guys! All of the songs were from '70s albums. I would not say that this is as good as the original albums, but I enjoyed very, very much hearing the band for the first time in so many years. So if you already have their '70s albums, I can recommend this one highly. http://www.amazon.com/Live-Caravan/dp/B0000011PQ/ref=sr_1_2_twi_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1421453885&sr=1-2&keywords=caravan+live
