I think the Steeler fans are laughing at the Eagle fans. -
The police officer who came upon James Dean's car crash has died. Interesting obit at LA Times which I can't link to. Here's one point: "They were driving west toward Paso Robles on Highway 466 shortly before 6 p.m. when an eastbound Ford driven by Donald G. Turnupseed, a 23-year-old student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, turned left onto Highway 41, and the cars collided...Ernie was the ONLY official who actually recognized that Donald Turnupseed had failed to yield his Ford Tudor at the 466/41 Junction while making a left turn onto CA 41. Under CA law, Turnupseed could have been charged with second degree manslaughter resulting in a fatality --for failing to yield to the oncoming Porsche 550 Spyder, even though Dean may have been exceeding the speed limit. At the San Luis Obispo Inquest, contributory neligence against both Turnupseed and Dean was dismissed -- but as Ernie accurately pointed out in later interviews, that was a technical error, as Dean was deceased by reason of Turnupseed's actions. Country with the worst beer
GA Russell replied to Christiern's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Years ago I came to the conclusion that Americans don't like beer when I realized that every Big New Thing in beer is more watered down than the last Big New Thing. -

I've learned this week about a website called goodreads.com, which is something of a social website for readers. I've decided to keep track of my books in 2011, so I have started a list which you can see here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/4689852

I'm surprised there haven't been college betting scandals like there were in the 50s. One of the justifications of paying pro players so much is that they won't be tempted by the gamblers to throw the game.

It now looks like there is a real possibility that the Ticats will relocate. The Hamilton City Council today voted down the proposed location of a new stadium, and Ivor Wynne (which was built around 1930) can't go much further without a very expensive rehab for which there is no money. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=346537 http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/hamilton-decides-against-mayors-pick-for-stadium-site/article1847692/ http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/ticats-search-for-new-home-hits-dead-end/article1847844/

Steve Landesberg, "Dietrich" on Barney Miller
GA Russell replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I saw him doing standup more than once on the Tonight Show and enjoyed him very much. Very laid back and easy going, and likeable. -

In his press conference immeidately after the Grey Cup game, Anthony Calvillo announced that he had a thyroid problem and would go under the knife soon. A lesion on the thyroid was removed, and it was determined to be cancerous. So today his thyroid gland was removed. The report is that the doctor is satisfied. But at 38 years of age, you have to wonder if this will be relevant to Calvillo's playing future. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/calvillo-has-second-operation-after-results-show-presence-of-cancer-cells/article1846443/
