  1. Happy Birthday Don!
  2. Happy Birthday 2010 DTMX!
  3. Eastern Final: Montreal Alouettes 48....Toronto Argonauts 17 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W906.htm The game was played in Olympic Stadium, and 58,000 showed up. As expected, the Argos were never in it. What was a surprise was the ease with which the Als were able to move the ball against the Argos defense, which was ranked first in the league. ***** Western Final: Saskatchewan Roughriders 20....Calgary Stampeders 16 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W907.htm Once again this year, the home team in the Western Final failed to win. At kickoff, the wind chill was -24C, which I think is -12F. By the fourth quarter the snow was coming down fairly heavily. As a result of the weather, it was not a error-free game. The Riders just put together more good drives.
  4. Bev, I remember that Bley had an album out on Limelight ca. 1968 with electric keyboards called Mr. Joy. Is that the album you are referring to? I enjoyed it then, but it's been 44 years since I've heard it, and I don't remember enough to intelligently discuss it. If not, what are you referring to? Here's a thread that discusses the Scorpio cd reissue: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=12589&st=0&p=214168&hl=Bley&fromsearch=1&#entry214168

  8. Gregg Xenakes Finals picks http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4356729 ***** It's snowing in Calgary, and they're looking for it to remain cold (-11C, which I think is 12F). http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=341645
  9. TTK, that sounds like the cd I have, except that I got mine about 1990. I think that in the mid-60s Time Magazine had a staffer who was a fan of the Double Six and the Swingle Singers, because I seem to recall reading references to them more than once. I wish that more of the Double Six's work was available on cd. They were not only great, they had a unique sound as well. Isn't it interesting that Mimi Perrin was a success (in her own way) in two unrelated fields! RIP. By the way, can a francophone here explain the translation of the term Double Six, and why the group was called that?
  10. The name Peggy King rings a bell. I think she was a regular on a radio show. Maybe...Stan Freeburg's? ***** OK, I've found this on Wikipedia. It doesn't mention Stan Freeburg, but his show is why I think I know her. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peggy_King
  11. The website I referred to is mobileread.com. 85 of the 97 responders said "introvert". I wonder if introverts are likely to spend more time on the web. http://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=106515
  12. The league All-Star team was announced today. http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4356728
  13. This question/poll was asked on another forum I'm a member of, and I was very surprised by the response (which I won't reveal at this time for fear of spoiling this poll). Your vote will not be public, so don't worry about revealing a secret. I'll be interested to see how the percentages break down here.
  14. Toronto Argonauts 16....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 13 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W904.htm Was this a great defensive struggle? Actually, I think it was two offenses who both had bad games on the same day. I was kind of rooting for the Ticats, because I think they had a slim chance of beating the Als next week. I don't think that the Argos have any chance at all, barring injury. ***** Saskatchewan Roughriders 41....British Columbia Lions 38 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W905.htm What a game! The Riders scored 20 points in the second half to take the lead, but the Lions scored a TD on the last play of regulation to tie it at 27. The Riders won it in double overtime. I was rooting for the Lions, because they have been on a roll, and I think that they could have upset the Stampeders next week. The Riders have been in a slump, and considering how poorly their offense played in the first half today, I don't think they are going to beat Calgary.
  15. I've been enjoying the new album by The Either/Orchestra called Mood Music for Time Travellers. It's an interesting program, ranging from something written by someone who has heard a lot of James Brown, to songs as mainstream as they can be with an electric bass. I'm surprised I haven't heard this yet on Sirius, because there are some radio-worthy tracks here. The album swings from start to finish. If you don't dislike an electric bass, you'll probably like this.
  16. I'd like to see a Prestige box like that Columbia box mjzee mentions. Thanks for all of your responses! There are a number that I didn't know about.
  17. I've just finished the second Quiller story, The Ninth Directive. It was so delicious, I didn't want to read it for more than a half hour at a time. I wanted to savor it all!
  18. Happy Birthday 2010 Eric!
  19. Allan Maki Semi-Finals picks http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/cfl-playoff-picks/article1797820/
  20. Thanks again, guys! TTK, I gave my sister the Mancini Original Albums box last year for Christmas, and I think that those five (I have four) are the way to go. But I'm enjoying what I got this year very much.
  21. As expected, the Eskimos have fired Richie Hall. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/hall-made-the-fall-guy-for-eskimos/article1794379/ http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=340830
  22. I remember that Steve Allen had a running gag of reading like poetry the lyrics to rock 'n' roll hits. You-oo-oo-oo send me...
  23. Were the Moms Mabley records "Not licensed for airplay" like the Foxxes were?
  24. Remember when Al Capp gave a title to each of his Sunday Lil Abners? I remember one was "Lasagna's ended, but the malady lingers on."
  25. As I understand it, there was a period of about 35 years, maybe from Show Boat ca. 1928 to Camelot ca. 1962, when Broadway provided a lot of good songs that became hits, even when the shows were flops. In the nearly fifty years since then, Broadway has produced few songs people remember, and many of those have been the product of Andrew Lloyd Weber. And throughout those fifty years, Sondheim has been considered the king of the Broadway hill. So if Sondheim's opinion is worth quoting, why hasn't the public taken to his songs the way it took to his predecessors? I think that Sondheim is treated by the media as more important than he really is.
