  1. It's Labor Day Weekend with its traditional schedule! Matt Flowers West report http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=/cfl/news/AJN4338203.htm ***** Matt Flowers East report http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4338783 ***** Gregg Xenakes Week 10 picks http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4338519 ***** Globe & Mail Week 10 picks http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/cfl-week-10-preview/article1694799/
  2. She had a hit record (AM radio) when I was in high school ca. '66. As I recall, it was the Beatles' And I Love Him.
  3. Congrats, and welcome back, Bruce!
  4. I like everything about Dave Brubeck except his piano playing. I like everything abut Starbucks except their coffee.
  5. I received my Gevalia coffee today. I'll have some tomorrow. There are two "refer a friend" programs. The first is by mail. You get two half-pound boxes of coffee from a selection of 19 coffees and the fancy coffee maker. This costs $10.00 with free shipping. The second way is via the internet. The internet deal costs $12.95. It isn't clear if the shipping is free. (As far as I can see, shipping when not free is always $5.95.) You get the fancy coffee maker plus a stainless steel scoop, plus two half-pound boxes from a selection of 40. Or you can take the internet deal to get a stainless steel tea kettle with a canister and a travel mug and two boxes of tea from a selection of 19 teas. PM me if you are interested.
  6. I don't see a lot of support for Safari! Thanks guys!
  7. I've been using Firefox for a few years now. Last week while downloading the updated QuickTime Player, I had the opportunity to download Safari, so I did. I've got no complaints with Firefox. What's the sales pitch behind Safari? Any reason to choose one over the other?
  8. Somewhere I picked up the idea that your thought isn't crystalized until it is spoken/thought in a specific language. And therefore if there is no word in your language for a specific thought, then you don't think it. As a result, people with large vocabularies have more specific ideas than those with small vocabularies. When you see an athlete interviewed on TV saying that he cannot express his feelings in words, he does not really have a specific idea to express. That has been my understanding of it.
  9. Other than the Coleman Hawkins sides included with the Prestige box, what pre-Blue Note Monk sides are there?
  10. Thanks for that list! I didn't realize that I already have 12 of those albums, which is to say that I'm not missing much. So when the time comes I'll just go for what I don't have rather than a complete set.
  11. The Als have released Stanford Samuels and OJ Santiago. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=332073
  12. This weekend I read Carl Hiassen's current best seller Star Island. Light fare with a few laughs. Not good enough to make me want to read another of his anytime soon, but not bad enough to discourage me from ever reading another one of his.
  13. I expected both games this weekend to be blowouts. But (surprise!) it didn't happen. Calgary Stampeders 48....British Columbia Lions 35 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W862.htm http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/burris-stars-as-stamps-beat-lions/article1688707/ Casey Printers is back off the injured list. As you can see from the score: 1) The Lions looked like a good team offensively with Printers in control. and 2) Even with three interceptions, the Lions' defense couldn't stop the Stampeders. ***** Edmonton Eskimos 17....Saskatchewan Roughriders 14 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=CFL/scores/final/W863.htm http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/eskimos-fend-off-riders/article1689021/ The Eskimos looked pretty dismal. Trailing 14-0 in the second, Richie Hall pulled Ricky Ray and put in Jared Zabransky for most of the rest of the game. The Eskimos did all of the scoring for the rest of the game, as Darian Durant had a mediocre game. Noel Prefontaine gave Edmonton its first lead of the night with a FG with only 37 seconds left in the game
  14. Welcome back MG! If there were two with that name, would they be MGA and MGB?
  15. Mark Murphy did Spring, as I recall on his Rah album.
  16. Happy Birthday kh!
  17. Here's an NPR article about the current state of record sales - the lowest since Soundscan started in 1991. I blame it on: 1) very little of today's music appeals to adults 2) much of teen music is R&B 3) many teens spend their money on video games nowadays. http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2010/08/25/129428450/album-sales-hit-record-lows
  18. Anthony Calvillo has already been ruled out of the Als' next game, Sept. 3 against BC. http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4337457
  19. Edward Kean was the original head writer of Howdy Doody, and invented the word Cowabunga! (My recollection is that it was "cowabonga", and that the surfers changed it to -bunga, but you can't fight the historians!) http://wcbsfm.radio.com/2010/08/24/howdy-doody-show-writer-edward-kean-has-died/
  20. Remember Penny in Sky King? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloria_Winters
  21. Weiss was the composer of Too Close For Comfort, What a Wonderful World, the lyrics to The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Can't Help Falling in Love and many Broadway songs. http://www.playbill.com/news/article/142404-George-David-Weiss-Broadway-Composer-and-Pop-Songwriter-Dies-at-89
  22. We have reached the bye weeks part of the schedule. This gives everyone a chance to let his body heal while visiting the family back home. Last weekend saw the four Eastern teams play, and this weekend will see the four Western teams play. Montreal 39....Winnipeg 17 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=cfl/scores/final/recap.aspx?id=860 The Als were walloping the Bombers as expected, leading 24-0 in the second quarter, when Anthony Calvillo went down with a bruised sternum. Adrian McPherson is on the injured list, so that left third-string QB Chris Leak (remember him from Florida?) to lead the team the rest of the way. That rejuvenated the Bombers, and the score was 24-17 at the end of three, but the Als salted the game away in the fourth. Calvillo is now out of the hospital, and will benefit from having this week off. ***** Hamilton Tiger-Cats 16....Toronto Argonauts 12 http://scoreboards.canoe.ca/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=canoe&page=cfl/scores/final/recap.aspx?id=861 Defensive struggle. The Ticats scored the game's only TD with three minutes left to play. ***** Gregg Xenakes Week 9 picks http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=/cfl/news/AJN4337055.htm ***** Globe & Mail (Matthew Sekeres) Week 9 picks http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/cfl-week-9-preview/article1686868/ ***** Matt Flowers West report http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4337071
  23. Thanks It Should! That was quick and easy!
  24. I forgot to mention that the liner notes are by Doug Ramsey. Who would have guessed the pairing of Ramsey or Frishberg with a country swing singer?
  25. In the past few weeks I have twice unwittingly added a toolbar to my firefox. How do I get rid of them? Anybody know?
