  1. Belated Happy Birthday CJ!
  2. I have a beef with Pandora. It considers Cal Tjader a Latin artist, and plays only Latin music when I want to hear him and other vibraharpists.
  3. Montreal's Bryan Chiu signed a contract to play another year, but changed his mind and retired a couple of weeks ago. I expect that he will be elected to the Hall of Fame. ***** Here are the pre-season results so far: Week A: Toronto 13 Hamilton 10 Winnipeg 34 Montreal 10 BC 19 Sask 17 Calgary 23 Edmonton 21 Week B: Montreal 31 Toronto 23
  4. Calgary's Brett Ralph retired last week.
  5. Here's the first 2010 Season Preview I've found, from TSN. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=324491
  6. I agree with Matthew and Moose. The words "no-hitter" or "perfect game" should not be mentioned. That custom is part of the fun of being a baseball fan. By the way, It Should Be You mentioned Don Larsen's perfect game. My parents had tickets to see My Fair Lady on Broadway that night, and they spent the day driving down to New York from Boston, listening the game! Some day!
  7. Hey guys, I have moved to Raleigh, and have been without internet service since the first of the month. Today I'm at the library. I'll try to catch up when I get my new ISP which I hope will be in about a week. The pre-season has started, but I haven't noticed much news.
  8. Very sorry, Ray. Best wishes to you and your family.
  9. Belated Happy Birthday Durium!
  10. I wonder if the Phillies baseball game was on TV in Philly last night. That is to say, I wonder how many fans were watching the Flyers in the Stanley Cup Finals, and therefore missed Halladay pitch a perfect game!
  11. Happy Birthday 2010 Bill!
  12. How did Chicago do during the regular season?
  13. Thanks Cliff. I saw him in Atlanta ca. 1986, and couldn't remember.
  14. How does he pronounce his last name?
  15. The first jazz concert I attended was Mongo Santamaria, 1967. Hubert Laws on flute was the standout!
  16. No one has mentioned Bobby Jaspar, whom I've always liked. When I was in college, I had a couple of Prestige albums he did, including a date with Herbie Mann that took up three LP sides. No one has mentioned James Spaulding either. I've never been much of a fan of his, but there was a time in the late 60s when it seemed like every Blue Note album had him on flute.
  17. I'm surprised that they would issue a 35-disc set this time of year. Wouldn't you think they would do it for Christmas instead, when people spend the big bucks?
  18. Happy Birthday 2010 Sundog!
  19. I was there for that! I was a freshman in college in DC, and I figured that a Presidential Inauguration was something historical that one should attend if one is in town, so I went. It was a cold, damp day, and I don't remember anything he said. Having gone once, I won't be going to another Inauguration.
  20. After being out of pro ball for seven (!) years, OJ Santiago has decided to try to make a comeback with the Alouettes. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Montreal/2010/05/17/13986646.html ***** John Comiskey has retired due to a knee injury. Dan Comiskey has come out of (one-year) retirement to replace him with the Stampeders. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Calgary/2010/05/19/14004921.html
  21. Happy Birthday B3-er! Hope you're enjoying your tour!
  22. It was announced today that the Texas Rangers will be sold to a Pittsburgh attorney. Am I right, isn't that good news to Big Al?
  23. I can think of Shelly Berman. Mort Sahl? Was The First Family on Verve? Who else?
  24. My copy of Stuttgart arrived today, and I put on Disc 1 right away, and loved it. Two hours later, I put it on again. One thing that struck me was that this is now the fourth Widow's Taste concert release, and in all of them the bands are terrific. It's not just Art Pepper. You don't have to be an Art Pepper fan to enjoy these discs. Back in the 60s, I respected Herbie Mann and Miles Davis for hiring young guys who were better than they were. (In rock, Spencer Davis did the same thing.) I think that Art should be given credit for finding and hiring such talented jazz musicians.
